From the Chicago Tribune
Jermaine Dye is drawing interest from the Yankees after their acquisition of Javier Vazquez.
His bat may rebound a bit next year but not nearly enough to make up for his atrocious fielding. His UZR/150 in RF since 2006:
2006: -21.5
2007: -21.5
2008: -21.4
2009: -24.5
Jermaine Dye is one of the worst defenders at any position in major league baseball. And if you put any stock into Fangraphs’ player values, Dye was so bad in 2009 that he should have paid the White Sox $1.2 million to employ him. That is hilarious.

Heyman says they aren’t in on him, thankfully.

Could he really be worse than Reed Johnson?

try Gardner and Hoffman in a platoon and if that doesn’t work… well, LF is an easy position to fix mid year with a trade.

I say we sign Dan Pasqua to play LF. I hear he’s available.

I’m starting to think they’re laying in the weeds just waiting for Holliday’s price to be finalized. Once it is they’ll top whatever offer is out there.
Just feels a lot like Tex last year. Plus it would set their 3,4,5 in the order for like the next 4-5 years.

hey, all this talk of pitchers and outfielders… anyone else concerned about what we’ve got in the wings if our 36 yr-old SS or our 34 yr-old Hudson-less 3B get hurt?
These dudes got 324 plate appearances last year.
Angel Berroa: .136 .174 .182 .356
Cody Ransom: .190 .256 .329 .585
Ramiro Pena: .287 .317 .383 .699
Jerry Hairston:.237 .352 .382 .733
Whadda ya say we trade The Farm + Joba for HANLEY RAMIREZ – and put Hanley in LF (literally watching Derek and Alex’s backs)!

Voomo, do you just copy and paste the same post into threads that are weeks apart?

I’d go Rick Ankiel, its worth a shot to see if he could rebound to his 2008 form plus he’s got one of the best OF arms in baseball. I also wouldn’t’ mind the Byrd man if they could grab him for a reasonable two yr deal.
Voomo Zanzibar December 29, 2009 17:42
Kevin, well, i think it is a great idea, so i have been trying to start a conversation with y’all about it for about a week and a half.
Kyle December 29, 2009 18:29
I can’t imagine that Byrd or Ankiel will be in the Yankees price range if Nady isn’t.
furry balls December 29, 2009 19:10
I’d think Ankiel could be had cheap ,he was the Cards 4th outfielder last year and that short porch in Rf could help him land a better deal next off season. Your right though if Nady’s out then what we talking here 750 G’s to play with ?

Voomo, it’s an insane idea. Just stop.

One Name: Jack Cust. 30 year old OBA Slugger who stays healthy. Nick The Stick is Mr. Glass from Unbreakable. He won’t last past spring training. Cust is horrendous in the field but can play LF and be gotten for 5 million. His strikeouts are out of control but one a real team – I see him getting plate discipline under control. It’s a stealth pick.
