The Phillies announced Friday afternoon that they have asked seven non-roster invitees to Spring Training.
Infielder Cody Ransom, 33, split last season with the New York Yankees and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He hit .190 with 10 RBIs in 31 games with the Yankees. He has played with the San Francisco Giants (2001-04), Houston Astros (2007) and Yankees (2008-09).

Shit. They’re all but guaranteed a World Series victory now.

Did you guys hate Eric Almonte this much?
wexy December 13, 2009 14:49
We’re boarding on obsessive compulsive now.

Poor Cody Ransom, dude is a pro baseball player and made half a million dollars last year. I’m sure he goes to bed crying every night because a website makes funny photoshops about him.

I totally agree with the Cody Ransom bashing. I wasn’t reading nomaas last year so I have to ask… was this going on with Wilson Betemit. Cause I hated him more than Cody. His name in my house was the Bad-wagon… you had to be there.
ClarkDevereaux December 13, 2009 20:49
Hey guys, send me an e-mail when NoMaas is funny again, mmkay?
Matcohen December 13, 2009 23:41
I thought that it was funny.

Cody Ransom was the starting third baseman for 6 weeks and was a horrible horrible piece of crap baseball player. I have awful memories of that ordeal. I don’t have any memories of Wilson Betemit, other than him being the guy that eventually gave us Swisher. So I have no issues with Betemit. In fact, I am happy when I think of him. I am not happy when I think of Cody. So Cody getting the constant photoshop treatment is definitely ok by me. Keep up the good work.

Cody Ransom stinks. It is nice to hear an Erick Almonte reference. You’d be surprised how many Yankee fans have forgotten about that guy. It was only 6 years ago that Almonte replaced Jeter for a month and a half while he was rehabbing his separated shoulder thanks to former Blue Jays’ catcher Ken Huckaby.

Are people really getting upset about this? Really?
This is hilarious. Never let the Cody Ransom bashing die. The way they played this guy you would have thought he had dirt on Cashman or something.
Lee December 14, 2009 09:32
Why do you always have him jumpimg?
Steve December 14, 2009 09:52
I, too, have “horrible memories” of those 79 ABs during a 103 win Championship Season.
Also, I still have trouble sleeping at night thinking about the 147 ABs of 37 OPS+ the Yankees gave Luis Sojo in 1998. And the 58 ABs of -3(!) OPS+ to Dale Sveum. Almost cost them the season.
Cody Ransom managed to start 13 whole games during his 6 week stretch as the starting 3Bman before A-Rod came back, and 22 games overall. It was a nightmare.
Just the fact that the Yankees dared to play a replacement level player for 79 ABs makes me mad enough to punch a kitten.

Lee.. because thats pretty much his only physical attribute.. YouTube Cody Ransom jump.. you’ll have his jersey on order in no time.
GSB December 14, 2009 13:29
So, Cody Ranson or Tony Womack?
greg 23 December 14, 2009 17:34
No one was worse than Wormack.
MyTriState Yankees December 15, 2009 12:41
no one worse than Womack? Recall the ball bouncing off Ransom’s chest… what about Kenny “I dont want to see him center field again!” Lofton?
