The Yankees just colossally upgraded their team with a 28-year old All-Star caliber CF on a very reasonable contract.
Let’s look at what C-Grand offers:
- Led all MLB CFs in OPS and OPS+ from 2007-2008 with a whopping .887 and 129, respectively.
- Combining his past three seasons, rates as an above average CF (5.1 UZR/150)
- Swisherian in that his BABIP of .273 was significantly below his career average of .323, despite his line drive rate actually increasing. Rebound very likely.
- Abysmal versus LHP (.210/.270/.344/.614), but demolishes RHP (.292/.367/.528/.894). Unless the entire league learns to throw left-handed, he should continue to produce big overall numbers.
- Career 67 steals in 84 attempts (near 80% success rate)
- Former commentator/belt keeper for TNA Wrestling
Really a monster upgrade in CF.

I have a feeling we will be seeing pictures of Cash robbing the Tigers!
Ryan December 8, 2009 19:52
I agree completely with NoMaas on this. I’ve also heard some people saying how Granderson is a salary dumb and that he makes the payroll less maneuverable for guys like Holliday or Bay but I just don’t see that. Forget signing Damon to a 2yr/20 mill deal and forget getting a High priced ace like Lackey. I’ll take any combination of Holliday/Bay and Harden/Sheets and call it an off-season. Of course its not that simple and I’m sure Cash has his own agenda so I guess I’ll just have to wait to see what he does.

I love the off-season. It’s like Christmas morning, granted some “presents” are better than others. I love the Granderson move, great outfielder, baserunner and very reasonable. Cashman isn’t done though, cab’t wait wait to see what tomorrow brings
Ian December 8, 2009 20:27
I love how the off-season has become less frustrating and more enjoyable since Cash was given full autonomy over the team roster.
Hilarious December 8, 2009 20:46
Ha Ha Ha. John Kennedy was killed. I get it. That is so funny. And for good measure, there’s a black guy in a dress. Poor taste and racism, too. NoMaas, for all your baseball needs.

Actually, it was Arizona who got robbed. Detroit got Jackson and Scherzer in the deal – a talent downgrade in the outfield, but not necessarily a value one – and they have the best pitcher in the swap, right now. That he’s under control for three years longer than Jackson makes this trade even dumber from the D’backs part. I thank them for facilitating it, though. :)

That picture is reprehensible. Totally distasteful.
brad December 8, 2009 20:51
poor taste-maybe. racism-the article is about how great a black baseball player is and how happy they are we got him. granderson IS black right?
Ridiculous December 8, 2009 20:57
No class from Nomaas… yet again. What do you expect from the trashiest website out there?
MTV’s Jersey Shore show is more upstanding than this.

This alone shows why Grandy is the man. So glad the Yanks are now smokin’ on that Gran Daddy

Hilarious picture as usual.
noseeum December 8, 2009 21:06
Granderson is black? I thought that was Jackie O?
frits December 8, 2009 21:07
why is peteabe trolling your board?

“MTV’s Jersey Shore show is more upstanding than this.”
this needs to be plastered somewhere on your banner or something.
The Ethicist December 8, 2009 21:49
It would have been racist if Granderson were depicted as the shooter.
just to clarify December 8, 2009 22:02
I’m pretty sure that it’s Jackson in the picture and not granderson. I freaking love this trade we need more black dudes on this team to help them all chill baybe plus curtis is a pretty darn good player we’ll teach him to hit lefties. oh great picture you rasist jerk tards
just to clarify December 8, 2009 22:03
oh and i can’t spell ” racist jerk tards ” sorry
joe December 8, 2009 22:11
Still wouldn’t be racist. Its a doctored image not created with any racial meaning. Get over it
Sean December 8, 2009 22:19
I like the trade for the reasons enumerated by the NoMaas gang.
As for the picture: I don’t get it. I don’t think it’s racist, but it’s not particularly funny either.
I am not Ian Kennedy December 8, 2009 22:31
I think “Hilarious” is IPK here to complain about being traded
wanger December 8, 2009 22:58
sorry ipk.. good luck with the d-backs. Anyone wonder if IPK will fail medical review?
Rob A from BBD December 8, 2009 22:59
LOL @ racism accusation. That picture is great. I called my girlfriend in from the other room to look at it.

Is anyone else bothered by the fact that we lost our second best position prospect for a player who hits left handed pitching about as well as Bea Arthur? I think this was an unnesacary move. Melky can play Center just fine, and we could have slowly brought up A-Jax as the season went along. If we were to deal him it should have been for Halladay of King Felix, and no one lese
Soxwho December 9, 2009 13:30
F- Everyone who thinks the picture is wrong. Get a sense of humor and know that JFK is supposed to represent Ian Kennedy who is on his way out, much like this ride JFK took a long time ago.
I hate people who take life too seriously. When your gone it wont matter so loosen up.
Greg December 9, 2009 14:28
I like the move.. more importantly, what will Sterling’s HR call be for our new CF?? It is high, it is far, it is gone!” How grand Curt is! .. just a thought.
Philip December 9, 2009 14:34
If he hits one out with the bases loaded I think Sterling will call it a “Granderslamerson”
greg 23 December 9, 2009 17:17
Where in the Yankees entire system is there a single OF prospect with 35 HR potential ? That’s y they made the deal to add some pop to the OF with the impending departures of Damon or Matsui.

Now, what’s the significance of AJAX in the Jackie seat?
I guess you need a good potent abrasive to clean up bits of splattered brain: is that it?
All in very poor taste and very clever– Nice Work guys.
By the way, is the first time anyone noticed Cashman’s resemblance to LHO?
My only fear is that the above photo naturally suggests a logical successor. Boras’ face dissolves and re-materializes as Ruby’s.
P.S. Hank Gola’s self-righteous column in today’s News should earn him some withering photo on your front page. Like cast a priest fondling a little Tiger or something
