Anyone think Aceves can continue his success in 2010? He seemed real sluggish in the second half.

He wasn’t bread as a reliever so maybe he can adapt to maintain his effectiveness all year. If he did what he did again that’d be awesome.

Good thing this wasn’t the site that advocated against Rivera being signed the last time he was a free agent and then called his signing a huge mistake.
Oh, wait. It was.

I think there’s a huge difference between being against signing a player and being against a particular contract. Because, let’s be honest, $15M for a reliever is absurd, and at the time the assumption was that Rivera would eventually decline. So, yes, I suppose NoMaas has to eat it a little because Rivera is continuing to prove he’s the best ever by completely ignoring the passage of time. That doesn’t change the way the contract looked at the time, which admittedly was pretty bad.

I think a big reason Aceves fell off at the end was because he was over worked. Once he established himself in the pen, Girardi would over use him. One day he is throwing 1 inning, the next he is throwing 3. I think with a deeper pen he will not be pushed to the max and have a more defined role and will benefit because of that.

I think it was a confidence thing. He got hammered in Anaheim towards the end of the season then never seemed to bounce back. He does seem to get a bit nervy when starting a game.

Aceves blew in the playoffs. Fatigued maybe?
