I guess the Sox signed Cameron to play the field…of cotton. Is Cameron stupid or just desperate to hear some racist comments flying out of CF for 81 games a year.

As much as I hate to say it, and I’m certainly not equating them as players, but Cameron’s offensive stats last year were basically the same as Granderson’s, with fewer homers, and a higher OBP. Obviously he’s much older, but if Granderson underperforms, as he did last season, Cameron, for the next two years, is potentially a similar offensive player, who is better defensively. Not that any of these comparisons really matter, but I think it’s a good move by the Sox, and it gives them their first black player since Coco Crisp.

  6. although i havent seen Cameron play the field in years, I assume he’s not on Granderson’s level… he out homered him by what, 10 last year? how much higher was Granderson’s OBP? I feel you are giving Cameron a little too much credit…

Grandy hit 30 homers, Cameron 24, and Cameron had a higher OBP and a higher OPS. I think Cameron is still the better defender, although we’ll see how he plays the monster in Boston. Clearly, Granderson is the superior asset for a franchise, considering how much younger he is, and there’s a possibility that last year was an aberration for him offensively, and that he goes nuts at Yankee Stadium with the short porch. Meanwhile, Cameron’s season was almost exactly in tune with his career averages, though, due to his age, there’s a greater likelihood he gets worse. I’m just pointing out that, because last season they were similar offensively, there’s a chance that for the next two years, Granderson and Cameron continue to be similar players, which may come as a surprise to some, considering Granderson’s reputation makes him out to be the superior player.

Also, Granderson will play Center for the Yankees; Cameron is likely to play Left where his bat (and glove) is less valuable.

I agree. Granderson is the better player. On a career basis:

    Granderson .272/.344/.484
    Cameron .250/.340/.448
