Is it me, or does Lackey resemble curt schilling somewhat. I try not to emphasize things that strictly superficial, or out of vanity, but when it comes to the underdogs I can make an exception. They’re both your pretty standard hard to look at white guys, a little on the huskier side… anyone? anyone? bueller? bueller…
I’m in the Boston area a lot and every so often I see a guy with dark skin sporting a hat with a ‘B’ on it. I think a lot of them are Dominican though, so I don’t know if that counts. I was once privy to a game that fans play at Fenway called “Find Franklin” after the character from Peanuts where they try to spot black people in the crowd. The existence of such a game is evidence enough that it’s an uncommon sight.
With a combined .440 SLG and a .770 OPS against him in AL East ballparks, I’m sure Lackey will LOVE pitching in this division. I’m not saying he’ll be terrible, but Lackey’s strikeouts have declined, his velocity has declined and he relies on an above average defense, as a lot of balls are put into play against him. The bandbox in Boston is particularly bad for contact pitchers (can we say Chien Ming Wang?) and let’s just say The Nymph can’t handle every ground ball in play.
My gut says Lackey is going to regret leaving the Angels and their weak competition in the West while A-Rod, Granderson, and Jetes will feast.
