Damon talked about how excited he is with his new team, insisting repeatedly how much he and wife Michelle love Detroit. He went so far as to say the Tigers were his first choice even before he signed with the Yankees as a free agent in December 2005.

"This is where I wanted to be from day one," he said Monday at Tigers camp.

Damon always wanted to be of the feline persuasion.

Johnny’s a really bad speaker, and he obviously doesn’t think before he speaks. I wouldn’t hold this against him.

    He can go screw himself.
    Damon 2010 – 100 games played, .276, 12 HR’s, 64 RBI’s, 2 15 day DL stints. Tigers finish in 3rd.

What’s the guy supposed to say? His agent hung him out to dry…

I still back Damon. I hope he has a good year. How can you root against the guy!?

He could have just said he was happy to be with the Tigers and looking forward to having a good year. None of this “I wanted to sign with Detroit last time” crap. Okay yeah Johnny, you chased the money to NY, then you spent the entire offseason begging Cashman to let you suck his dick.

I heard damons first words were “i want to play for the tigers” This guy is a joke, Boras used him as a pawn to get Holliday more money. He will be lucky to hit 15 homers this year, and I hope the Tigers enjoy his girly throws from left field.

  13. Voz de Razon says:

Okay, so the “since Day One” line was probably not needed (or true), but why all the hate? The guy gave us good years and earned his keep. Did he or Boras misplay this offseason – yes, but the same guys now hating that he left are probably the same guys that think the team will be better off without him. So why the hate then? Don’t be like a Boston fan.

I don’t hate Damon. I said before the offseason that if he moved on, I wish him well. I’m just calling the hypocrisy how I see it.

Somebody check the facts. I read that Damon corrected this statement to say after it was clear he wasn’t going to go back to the Yankees, Detroit was his first choice.

I wonder….Is he gay? The Royals didnt want him, A’s got rid of him, Sox let him walk, Yankees said see ya. Makes you wonder? He is obviously a great ball player. Why didnt any of those teams keep him longer?

  19. Butcher says:

wade…you obviously didn’t follow the Holliday/Boras posturing. It was clear that Boras would let no top OFer he was repping sign before Holliday. He strung on the Yankees who just got sick of it and went the C Grand route. Much cheaper/younger. Everywhere he’s played he’s been a above average player.

He is a terrible speaker and not a well educated guy. He’d be the first to probably tell you that too.

  20. Butcher says:

I might actually attend a game at the Stadium….it’d be solely to cheer Damon when he comes back as a Tiger.

I think wade might be on to something. Maybe Damon is gay. Once they find out he’s gay, they send him packing (pardon the pun). Damon is a fudge packer.

Good to hear Butcher would only attend a Yankees game to cheer for a member of another team.

  23. Voomo Zanzibar says:

Damon is a great player and as far as i can tell from watching his interviews (and not just responding to out-of-context sound bites) seems to be a sensitive and sincere person.

All you haters should go to Shea and count airplanes.

  24. Sean says:

I try not to put too much stock into what Damon says. The guy’s not exactly a Poet Laureate.

I appreciate the 5 productive seasons he gave the Yankees and I wish him the best, but I’m not going to cry over not having him for $8 million. The Yanks moved on and now Damon has, too.

  25. Butcher says:

Larry…came off kind of wrong. If I’d go it’d be as a Yanks fan, but it’d be to cheer Damon. I think any Yank fan that went to a Detroit game this year at the Stadium would cheer for the guy. He played real hard while we had him.

I just meant that I’m planning on not going to the stadium this year…too expensive…security is awful (jackbooted thugs)…and I’d rather watch at home…but if I do get to a game it’ll be a Tigers game.

I’ll always love Johnny, but does he honestly believe that everyone else is as dumb as he is?

  27. DecemberBullets says:

Considering his well published bouts with his stuttering problem, attacking him for being a poor public speaker is a cheap shot that should be beneath most fans. The guy was a productive player here and a class act while in New York. I wish him the best, though I do feel that the Yankees are better off without him. Was that so hard?

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  28. I don’t get why the Tigers signed him… he makes more than Granderson does this year and he’s not as good a player… I just don’t understand what the Tigers are going to do with him, even if they DH him – he just doesn’t have enough power for their park.
