Is there any pitcher in baseball more overrated than Beckett? He’s an above average pitcher – but nothing more (career 115 ERA+). Did anyone ever confuse Andy Pettitte for an ace (career 114 ERA+)?
I never got the love Beckett gets from the media. He only has 3 seasons in his career that were ace like, and only one in Boston. The guy can pitch like an ace time from time, but he is not a consistent ace.
The Media’s love for Beckett comes from the fact that he absolutely dominated the Yankees in the 2003 World Series. He was David and slew Goliath. Other than that, hes been an above average pitcher who’s pitched a few real good games in the playoffs. Kind of like Andy Pettite.
those days when Becket has that hard fastball breaking in on the righties, he’s pretty unhittable. but for the most part, yeah, he’s had some great moments in his career, and he has nasty stuff, but he’s not great – i think he’s very comparable to AJ Burnett.
hah, i think maybe baseball reference is crackin down on people sponsoring pages just to insult the player.there were a bunch last season that all seem gone now too..hope you got a refund guys
For what it’s worth, even the press in Boston feel he’s over rated. The Sports talk radio guys were comparing him to A.J. Burnett. My take (and a Yankee fan in bean town) he’s a good pitcher but he’s not the second coming of Cy Young. I’d probably rather have him pitching for me than against me but…

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Gay joke. I guess it’s easier to attack them than it is to attack someone who will kick the shit out you. Way to be courageous.

I think it’s awesome that a bunch of 6th graders can run a blog and get an interview with Brian Cashman!
