Since going 15-7 in their first 22 games, the Yankees have gone 11-11. That doesn’t seem too bad, but 10 of those 11 losses have been in the last 15 games, including Sunday night’s defeat to Los Mets. It’s official, the Yankees are slumping for the first time this season.

Where’s Jeter and A-Rod?
Joe Morgan May 24, 2010 00:47
He is out, he is out because he is a Yankee and I said so, I don’t care what the replays show, I have supersonic 20/20 vision and he is out, just like last year when the replays clearly showed Swisher had tagged 2nd before going to 3rd but I was convinced he was out regardless, oh and btw my big red machines were far better than the 98 yankees and our infield greater than the current yankees. I hate the Yankees and I talk like a lazy black with a mouth full of shit.
Jon Miller May 24, 2010 00:48
Carlos BELL TRAHHN is out in the DL, every game I find a way to fit in the name Carlos BELLL TRAHHNN.

Yankees are some non-hitting motherfuckers.

Brett Gardner should pick a better way to slump than to go 0/10 in two nights.

Why is Randy Winn a Yankee and Jermaine Dye is unemployed? I’m not saying Dye is da bomb n shit, but he’d fill the gap much better than Steve Nash’s friend. Did I crash and get stuck on an island or something?????
Sabermatrician May 24, 2010 03:30
Jermaine Dye, he of the career .338 OBP? He of the 36 years of age and limited range? He of the unsigned-for-a-reason crowd?
Monahan, is that you?
Die May 24, 2010 03:32
Jermaine Dye is club house cancer.
He is everything the Yankees have been trying to get away from.
There is a reason he is still unemployed, because he thinks he is worth more than he actually is.
Just look up his latest quotes.

We need Curtis to get back healthy. We need to DFA and leave Melancon up to mature. Russo and Miranda I have no problems with but where’s Greg Golson? Is he not worth giving a shot to rather than Winn and Thames? Our stating pitching has been decent but let’s face it, CC has to get going in order for this staff to get some momentum. Not to mention those animals in the pen better get their act together. Last season our April was horrible and our May was an improvement. This year we started out so hot that we didn’t expect to slow down. Injuries happen, it’s part of the game. It’s up to Girardi to have prepared what he has in front of him every night.
JoeThunder May 24, 2010 07:15
*DFA Park that is* Sorry about that.
snowball May 24, 2010 08:17
swallowed by Citi field. Difficult to watch. More difficult to listen to.
Arnold May 24, 2010 08:20
Definitely need Curtis and Po back. Curtis will be a big lift because he’ll bump the Thames/Winn/Whoever out of the lineup.
Ogie Oglethorpe May 24, 2010 11:27
CC has to give us more than he did last night. If he keeps it respectable, we win that game.

When hitters 1-2-3 play like they have the past week or so, you are going to see a lot of losses. That, and all the starting pitching disappeared at once. I blame Javy Vazquez. Him, and Cody Ransom…
CB14 May 24, 2010 12:50
We picked the worst time to slump as a team. BTW is Randy Winn going to be the new Cody Ransom, no matter how wretched he plays he Joe will always find a spot for him. That POS cost us two games this week, with the misplay and strikeout against Boston and excellent fielding against Los Mets.
Arnold May 24, 2010 12:57
That wasn’t a misplay versus Boston (assuming you’re talking about the Rivera blown save). Girardi had him playing in due to the dink shots Mariano sometimes lets up.
CB14 May 24, 2010 13:44
Sorry I consider it a misplay, no left could dink a ball that far out. Besides the pitch before was strike three and if not Thames’ misplay the whole sequence of events never happens. The bench sucks this year, How the hell could Cashman let Hinske walk? He was actually pretty valuable last year.
Johnny Damon May 24, 2010 14:22
As always. I was available and Nick Johnson got the call. I probably win at least one of the two games they recently lost if I am playing over Randy Winn.
Just wanted to remind the people at Nomaas that I am better than Randy Winn, Nick Johnson, and Marcus Thames combined.
I will be here all season to point this out.
Brian Cashman May 24, 2010 14:39
Don’t give me that crap, Johnny. I offered you 2 years $14 million and you turned it down, then you waited around all off season like a schmuck for some Omar Minaya-type to give you a better offer and you never got it and ended up taking a one year deal because your agent Boras was offering up hand jobs in Detroit.
Sky Is Falling May 24, 2010 16:28
For the love of God why did we let Matsui walk for Carl Pavano’s other half, AKA OBP-POS. I’d rather have Godzera in left with ice packs on his knees while CG is out than have to make the choice between Winn batting and Thames fielding.
Curtis Pride May 24, 2010 17:51
What?!
Voomo Zanzibar May 24, 2010 19:11
Wait, what is this thread about again?
Oh yeah, we had a bad week and still only have the 2nd best record in the league. Yeah, that sucks.
Bring up Pat Venditte!
Colonel Khadafi May 24, 2010 20:14
Agent Boras makes hand jobs? Give me telephone number please.
Rocky Balboa May 24, 2010 20:24
Yo
you need to start your comebacks before the last at bats.

Peepee Hands May 25, 2010 13:43
Gardner’s face belongs on Kate, needless to say why… 0-13 against the Mets.
Steve May 25, 2010 14:31
Fun with WAR:
Thames: .7 WAR
Winn: 0 WAR
Cervelli: .9 WAR
Matsui: -.4 WAR
Reed Johnson: .4 WAR
So yeah, the Yankees aren’t (temporarily) scuffling because they didn’t sign Reed Johnson instead of Winn, or didn’t bring back Matsui, etc.
Those guys are just tinkering around the margins. Winn looks like a check in the whiff column for Cashman, but they’ve gotten unexpected production from Thames and have obviously gotten good production from Cervelli.
People love to rant about the bench, but the bench isn’t really the problem. Of course Winn isn’t great. That’s what happens when your 4th OFer starts for a month, he gets exposed. As long as he catches the ball (which he has for the most part) and takes an occasional walk (which he has), he’s doing his job.
The problem isn’t Randy Winn, it’s Mark Teixeira. And Derek Jeter. And CC Sabathia. Jeter’s been the best of the bunch, but for the most part all 3 of those guys are making $20M+ and having disappointing seasons.
I know it’s easier to focus our energies “blaming” the scrubs on the bench, but the fact is if the guys who are being paid like stars were playing like stars, no one would even notice Randy Winn.
Hideki Irabu May 25, 2010 15:13
I could have beaten the Mets. I have a .500 record against them. 1-1 baby!
