The Return of Mr. Loverman

Joba Chamberlain has been solid this season: 3.09 FIP / 3.64 xFIP, less contact and more swinging strikes than in 2009.
But on Monday night, we saw the flamethrower we all love (well kinda love, because if he was on another team, we'd probably dislike him immensely).
In the Yankees' loss to Detroit, Joba pitched the 8th and struck out the side by lighting up the radar gun with an average fastball of 96.76 mph, and maxing out at 98.3. That's some sizzle.

I’m thinking the bullpen is his place.
Start him.
Hopefully Joba took notes from Valverde and will now include a hop, a skip, and a bend over/pray type deal with his fist pump.
I still say he’s a starter long term. He showed too much potential at age 23 last year, and well all know starters are more valuable than relievers.
God I was hoping A-Rod would tie the game and just slowly take off his batting gloves at home plate while admiring the HR before slowly jogging around the bases.
It’s so cute when a team that hasn’t done shit in decades acts like it’s been there before.
you guys should’ve listened to the back-and-forth between kay and singleton in the bottom of the ninth, for once. the radar gun at comerica needs to be checked
Good starter or awesome set-up man?
I’ll go against the grain and say stick with Joba in the ‘pen. The Yankees haven’t had a reliable 8th inning guy since the Stanton/Nelson duo (not counting ’07 Joba).
Really Bull? Nathan? Because he’s doing well in the pen, you see that as evidence that he belongs there?
What about Hughes last year, you moron?
And all yous nancy boys cried when I said he should be in the pen and Phil Use should be the starter. I miss the Dog, he agreed. Horseracing.
Phil hughes failed so many times and was given another shot, he was sent down and back up
send me down I can start better than javy
watch that 08 start vs the red sox
Fist pump!!!!
de new jork jankees are noze good. i close out game and give janks to de lord.
What, no photoshop love for my flamethrowing loverman ass?
You Nerds probably think Zumaya was actually throwing 102 mph last night too. NNNNNEEEERRRRRDDDDSSSSSS!!!!!!!
gun was off last night. Zumaya was really throwing 107
and he reached Rock Star status* on Guitar Hero
*not sure if thats a real thing…that’s just what I learned from South Park.
Joba struck out three really shitty players and was pitching with either a juiced radar gun or with a solid tailwind coming in from CF. I will agree that his pitches looked better (command and break-wise).
My bad, totally forgot about Hughes last year. Hughes last year was Joba of ’07.
I think the 4th spot is available, I can try and stop the runs but it is difficult
You do realize the numbers quoted above are from PITCH F/X? Links are fun!
You still have diarrhea my friend
