Maybe less green tea and more protein-based food.
But I make the same dumb mistakes as the previous dude.
I’d rather keep Mo on the bench than get a win for my club.
Lookin’ at the box score and seeing that “S” is what I love.
Get it get it, get it get it (WHOOOA)
Get it get it, get it get it (WHOOOOOA)
Get it get it, get it get it (HEH HEH HEH HEH)
I went to Northwestern, I’m an educated fella
But I will use Chad Gaudin before I use the greatest eva
What’s practical is logical. What the hell, who cares?
Unless we have a lead away, I’ll never use Mo there.
I’m a slave to the save. I cannot hold it; I cannot control it.
I’m a slave to the save. I won’t deny it; I’m not trying to hide it.

I get the point, but using Mo would just have delayed the loss by 1 inning.

Using the 12th pitcher on your staff before you use the greatest relief pitcher in history?
What kind of moron would do such a thing?
Jeff Weaver June 6, 2010 00:07
Haha! What an idiot!!

I don’t see why everyone thinks this loss was inevitable. The offense wasn’t doing anything, but neither was theirs, and for all the home runs the Jays hit, they’re still not the Yankees’ equal offensively. Mo could have easily put in 2 innings. With Granderson, Jeter, and Swish due up in the 15th, we may have only needed him for one.
The point is: when you have a chance to win the game, you try to win the game. And the GOAT gave the Yanks a better chance of winning than Chad fucking Gaudin.

This is amazing…

Girardi said that he didn’t think about using Mo since he wasn’t available for 2 innings today.
So, that’s very very slightly better than the “it wasn’t a save situation” excuse. It gives me hope that if this were the playoffs that Mo would have been in that game instead of Jeff Weav…err Chad Gaudin (sorry, I have frequent flashbacks to October 2003). It’s still really stupid though. Just use Mo for one inning. If you get a lead, bring in someone else, like Mitre. if you don’t get a lead, bring in someone else, like Mitre. Duh. I’m not sure where the “bring in Chad Gaudin” part came from. Gaudin should be the last guy to bring in before the dreaded position player (Swisher?) has to pitch.
Most MLB managers would have done the same thing Girardi did. Because they are all idiots.

I actually felt pretty good today, took some good swings, I’m not worried, just a bad day at the office. I have no reasons to panic.

No, because, you see, it is much harder to protect a lead than a tie.
I hope at least Girardi invited Mo to the bathhouse to help him pick the splinters out of his ass.

Was the offense not cleared to pass through the border? 3 runs in 2 games.

If the offense had done their job, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

What in the God damned hell is wrong with managers these days? If I was in the pen, I would have kicked Andy’s steroids using ass out of the game in the fifth inning, pitched the rest of the game, and been ready for tomorrow. Even my moustache knows you use your best pitchers in the most important spots. Oh yeah, screw everything that happened after I retired. Fuck.

To people saying the save would have delayed the loss one inning, that is an awful point. First off, your point assumes that Mo would have pitched a scoreless inning, which, in essence, confirms the argument that bringing him in would have been the right move. Having Mo throw a scoreless inning gives the Yankees another opportunity to come to bat and, thus, to take the lead. Second, under the assumption that he threw a scoreless inning, there is the possibility that he would throw a quick scoreless inning. If Mo had, say, a ten pitch 1-2-3 inning, I can see few reasons why he could not pitch a second inning, whether the Yankees take the lead in the top of the 15th or not. Mo has not been overused this season and a two inning assignment, unlike what some might say, would not cause a career ending injury. He does it all the time in October, when the really team needs wins, but when his arm is fatigued after a year of pitching. It is probably less dangerous to use him for two innings in June, when he has not pitched as much. Then, if the Yankees are leading in his second inning of work, he is in line for a win, and, if they are not, he can, with a second scoreless inning, give them another opportunity to take the lead.
By saying that bringing him in would have only delayed the loss one inning you also essentially accept that the team is going to lose, although the game is tied. In my eyes, a loss was only a predetermined fate when Girardi brought in Gaudin.

Seems like a few people are losing sight of a few things. First, Girardi said that Mo was not available to pitch two innings. And I am not sure why you would EVER bring him in for two innings in an extra inning game in JUNE. The guy is 40, and they need him deep into the season. Why stress him that much to win a game in June? In a 162 game season, that game is no more important than tomorrow night’s game in Baltimore.
Second, Mitre wasn’t available – he had already pitched earlier in the game (threw three pitches, all balls, in relief of an injured Robertson). In fact, the only two guys left in the bullpen were Gaudin and Mo. And you wouldn’t use Mo in that spot – you would have used him much earlier, like say the 10th inning, and pushed everyone else back. It’s not like he would have started that inning – he would already have been in the showers.

Using Mo on Saturday was no guarantee of a Yankee win. But if Mo was unavailable yesterday and somebody else blows the game in the 9th, we’d all be pissed.
I’m ok with Girardi’s decision. Though, if Yanks miss the playoffs by 1 game this year, I might reconsider.
B Rabbit June 8, 2010 12:18
Where is this 2 inning thing coming from? Nomaas didnt say he should be in for 2 innings. They and other just wanted him in the game for 1 since allowing a run ended the game.

Mo was available for two innings last night and Girardi used him with the score tied. Show some love.
