Quick Analytical Blurbs

In similar fashion to Gary Wallace's Minor League Players of the Week, NoMaas' Marshall Seymour authors our Big League Players of the Month feature. At the conclusion of each month, we select two Yankees (position player & pitcher) who carried the Bombers over the last 30 or 31 days.

Big League Players of the Month (June):

Pitcher:
CC Sabathia, 2.19 ERA/3.08 FIP/3.48 xFIP, 37 IP

The further Sabathia gets from hibernation season, the more he transforms into dominant form. During his stretch in June, Sabathia never pitched fewer than 7 innings, struck out fewer than 6, or walked more than 3. After surrendering 2 HRs in his first start of the month, he went 4 straight starts in June without giving up the long ball.

CC looks ready to regain the title of best Yankee starter.

Position Player:
Robinson Cano, .333/.398/.510, .392 wOBA, 113 PA

Cano smoked the ball in June as he continued his MVP-caliber season. While his numbers weren't as prolific as in April, they were a smidgen better than his May totals (.336/.381/.509). June also marked Robbie's best BB rate for the year, walking in 8% of his PAs. While his BABIP for the season still sits pretty high up there (.352), it has come back down from astronomical territory. His .345 BABIP for June was in the ballpark of his .325 career rate.

We must also give an honorable mention to Brett Gardner who posted a tremendous line of .383/.472/.533, but due to an assortment of ailments, compiled just 72 plate appearances. Here's to hoping he gets back to form health-wise because he has been a very critical part of the team.
