Minor League Players of the Week, v15

If you haven’t already, check out our Top 10 + 10 Prospects and then sit back, relax and enjoy another edition of MLPW.
Minor League Players of the Week:
Pitcher:
Jose Ramirez, 20, RHP, A
11.0 IP, 11 K, 7 BB, 7 H, 2 ER
Previous Wins – Week(s): 3
Ramirez has had a rock solid year at Charleston so far. The young right hander has shown good control (7.3 BB%), a propensity for the strikeout (21.7 K%) and strong ground ball abilities (47.2 GB%). Given his relative youth, these are all very encouraging signs for Ramirez, who works mainly off a fastball-changeup combo. Jose doesn’t display any significant platoon splits, which is impressive given his pitch repertoire. Expect to see Ramirez climb prospect lists in the future.
Position Player:
Jesus Montero, 20, RHB C, AAA
.529/.600/1.000 in 20 PAs
Previous Wins – Week(s): 10, 13, 14
Jesus has certainly redeemed himself for his early season struggles. He has absolutely mashed in July (1.158 OPS) and eliminated all doubts about his ability to handle upper level pitching. Don’t be surprised if Montero is the player of the month for the International League, not to mention our choice for July’s top hitter. The Yankees haven’t seen a hitting prospect this good in many a moon and there is loads to be excited about here.
*This version of MLPW is slightly abridged. Gary is currently on vacation in Buenos Aires and still found the time to send in his report.

Who does everyone think Sookie will choose on True Blood? The suspense is killing me!
Truly retarded that Cashman was trading Montero for 3-4 months of Lee.
Even more crazy that he offered him for Soria…lemme think, Montero or high priced set up man?
Lee Yes, but if anyone thinks Cashman would’ve traded Montero for only Soria and nothing more is retarded… why would teh Royals turn that down ifit was straight up? Obviously it was Soria and other players/prospects.
For $15, you can meet me and all my other overweight friends.
I think the Royals not necessarily wanting Montero may be overblown. If the Royals don’t see Montero as a C (and many don’t), they’d be adding him to a logjam of 1B/DH types in Billy Butler, Eric Hosmer, Kila Ka’aihue, Mike Moustakas, and, potentially, Alex Gordon. While Montero’s bat may profile as the best of them all, I’m not sure you trade your most popular player in such a circumstance.
