Adam Warren K’s 15 in Trenton

Quick Analytical Blurbs

From the Trentonian:

Warren fanned 15 hitters over seven innings, eclipsing the team’s record of 14, set by Shannon Withem nearly 16 years ago to the day. Of his strikeouts, just two were looking and almost all came on hard, moving fastballs.

“Outstanding performance,” manager Tony Franklin summarized. “I have not seen a pitching performance like that in a long time. … That’s pretty good stuff. That’s major league-type stuff, front-line, major league, first-division, pennant contending team-type stuff.”

You should really read the whole article. There's some great quotes and info in there.

Also, now might be a good time to re-read (or read for the first time) our Stealth Bomber interview we conducted with Adam in late March.

He also won our Minor League Pitcher of the Week Award back in May.

    Really? Striking out 15 in AA is the same as striking out 15 in MLB? So why is he pitching in AA?

    @Matt

    “Major league-type stuff” implies that his stuff tonight was comparable to pitchers in the major league at their best. It isn’t about striking out 15 in AA translating to striking out 15 in the majors. He meant that the stuff Warren had tonight would have allowed him to pitch like a front-line starter in the bigs.

    No one can tell us whether or not he would have pitched well with this stuff at the majors.

    The question is whether he can do so cosistently.

    That is a good performance, but he could not have pitched for the big red machine of the mid to late seventies.
