Major League Baseball sticks it to NoMaas

A few days ago, we were contacted by Zazzle, which is the company that handles the manufacturing and shipping of our T-shirts.
Zazzle informed us that all of our T-shirts were being removed (except the NoMaas.org one) because Major League Baseball contacted them and stated we were infringing on their intellectual property rights:
We have been contacted by counsel from Major League Baseball Properties, Inc., and at their request, have removed the products from the Zazzle Marketplace.
While our shirts had no player last names or player images, apparently MLB owns the rights to numeric symbols and letters of the alphabet. We protested to Zazzle, but to no avail.
If you have one of these shirts already, you're now in possession of a limited edition piece.

That’s turrible.
How are any of those things copyright infringement? Nomaas get a lawsuit!
fags
MLB stuck it to me last year w/ my drug results being leaked so why should you be any different.

Anyone with a law background? I’ve seen the NoMaas Zazzle shirts before and in my untrained opinion I don’t see anything there that falls under the auspices of MLB IP.
@ Hideki Irabu: Not fags. MLB are fat pussy toads.
I like how player names, nicknames, and initials are their “intellectual property”, as if Bud Selig farted reality out of his prolapsed rectum.
If they’re infringement, shouldn’t Smack Talk also be infringement?
And when I crawl out from under my rock to sue your balls off, you won’t even be able to sell the ones you’re still offering!
They lost a court case to Yahoo which said that player names and statistics were not property of MLB. I don’t see how this isn’t exactly the same thing.
The only one that is suspicious is the “LEGEND” shirt because, though small, it uses the NY logo.
Don’t be sad, Yankee fans. You can use the money you would have spent on NoMaas t-shirts on delicious and dependable Bigelow Tea.
If I had known that MLB was going to be a bitch and shut you down I would have bought a Run BMG shit earlier. Damn.
Yes, shocking news. You’d think MLB would gladly let fan blogs run by anonymous racists do whatever they wanted with the names and numbers of their players.

Wow. You’re pretty dumb, aren’t you?
I’ve been in law school for the past 6 yrs…does that count?
Dusty Baker isn’t anonymous and doesn’t have a blog.
Yeah, Brian, you must have missed the memo. I’ll make sure you get a copy of that.

I would have thought RUN DMC and AC/DC would have bigger gripes than MLB. I could see those as logo infringement.
But I don’t see how MLB has a leg to stand on for those 2 shirts at least.

Not for nothing, but the yankees probably actually own a copyright on the phrase “Yankee Universe”. I am not saying it’s not petty for them to crack down on a fan blog, it is. But they have a case at least.
This one is just silly.
MLB is using fancy language like Intellectual Property just to scare you at NoMaas. Don’t back down !
I think we need to get some pro bono help up in here from NoMaas nation and fight MLB. I’d help, but I’m not sure anyone from the Yankees front office can take part. Love the site. Be on the look out for waiver moves from the master. – Ca$h Money
Fat Pete Ab must be behind this somehow..Still bitter I guess.
Find a new company to produce so I can buy a shirt just to spit in the face of Pussy Zazzle and the MLB.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……………..:(
Problem is that MLB isn’t threatening NoMaas, it’s threatening Zazzle, and if NoMaas uses a different shirt company, MLB will threaten it too. Since $$$ of hiring lawyers to deal with threats of litigation by MLB > $$$ made by filling shirt orders from NoMaas, MLB will always win here.
That is absolutely ridiculous. Like Run BMG… yes, maybe Run DMC could sue, but MLB?
Fuck them. Some stupid intern just got himself a pat on the back.
The potential lawsuit is not against NoMaas — it’s against Zazzle. MLB probably went through various online stores and thought “hey, we could be losing money here.” They then threatened Zazzle to remove the products or face a lawsuit. Zazzle probably said “fuck this, we aren’t going head to head with MLB” and removed all of the products.
NoMaas can go elsewhere and sell their t-shirts. At that point, if MLB cares, they’ll threaten that distributor too. But NoMaas was never in any legal danger here.
The easy answer is, it doesn’t matter.
MLB has shown itself it be aggressive in defending its copyrights. The cost of defending against such a suit from MLB would far exceed the $$$ amount that NoMaas or any clothing manufacturer would make selling the shirts. So even if you fight MLB and win…you still lose.
hahahah, MLB is completely clueless. its just a nomaas shirt not like some big deal. on mlbtv they don’t even bother to block local commercials so that is obviously the same thing and it dont make any sense even when you have the 6 screen view up and you can see all games and they show commercial for carl jr.’s. fucking idiots.
Hell Yea, go get what is your’s MLB!
Fuck MLB.
They also have the douchebaggiest YouTube policies.
The NBA pretty much lets people upload whatever
This should increase my bootleg profit. I will sell 3 shirt for $5 on corner out of box.
I didn’t know Kevin Maas was still alive!!!!
I wholeheartedly agree with MLB’s intellectual property claim. Also, when AJ gets sent to Japan, he should have to pitch under the name Bernie Ajay.
The easiest, and often funniest, witty fantasy team names are puns based on the player names.
Wow what an eventful day! first surfing, then skating, and now futbol night with all the homies. btw toledo loves ronaldo and we all know it
