Deep in the heart of Texas, Marcus Thames went 3-5, delivering a moonshot home run in the 8th to close the Yankees' deficit to one run, and then hit a go-ahead single in the 9th to complete the comeback.

Huge win.

Marcus Thames has had some big hits for this club in a limited role. He’s quiet and doesn’t complain about playing time. He just wants to be a team player and help contribute and he has in some meaningful ways.

Howdoyalike that Suzyn. Cliff Lee dealing. The Yankees still scratch out a very important win. It just goes to show no matter how many times I’ve said it…YOU JUST CAN’T PREDICT BASEBALL.

Marcus has been excellent this season. All the fuss at the beginning of the year was due to Girardi playing him in the field, which is a big no-no. Now that he’s DH only, he’s maximizing his value.

Jeter 3 more hits last night, now batting .280. It’s amazing how he’s able to do this in the mist of his catastrophic decline Nomass loves to talk about. What’s his strikes swung at % now? is it ok to resign him yet? or is Julio Lugo still a more attractive option to play ss next year?

    Fake Yankee Fan,

Please enlighten us with the contract that you believe the Yankees should give Jeter. I’d like to know what you think he is worth going forward.

  23. George Steinbrenner says:

Derek Jeter will receive a 3-year $20M per w/ ownership incentives at the end of his contract.

Thumb up 0 Thumb down 0

  24. Fake Yankee fan says:

Well there is a 100% chance he is coming back. I really dont care what they pay him. I really hope its a ridiculous contract just so i can laugh at all the people that will cry, bitch, and whine over it. Maybe something like 3 years 60 million. I’d love it, peoples panties would instantly bunch.

Does it matter what we pay Jeter? Lets say they pay him the same rate he makes now, does it really mater? NO!!!!!

will the yankees not sign someone or make a move to better the team because Jeter is making to much? Nope.

Jeter can be my SS till whenever he likes, i dont care what your made up stats say. Give Jeter a blank check it will have no affect on the Yankees or how they do business what so ever.

If this was on PS3 id try to sign him to a 3 year deal for his market value, but it’s not a video game.

Lets say Petitte retires, Javy walks. Are the yanks not going to sign a Cliff Lee because they just signed Jeter to a 3 yr deal at the rate he makes now? Nope, guess what Lee would be a Yankee.

So what does it matter if they pay him 3 yrs 30mil or 3 years 60 mil? I mean would it help you sleep better at night if the payroll was 180 and not 200+?

I’m just glad i’m old enough to remember some of the ss’s before Jeter. The whole thing is just a non issue to me and i dont know why people stress over it in the least. I mean when/if someone comes along in the next couple years and proves they are a better asset at SS then Jeter then it’s time to maybe rethink things and find a new position or DH him, Ramiro Pena IS NOT that guy.

People talk about the guy like he’s some sort of detriment to the team, should we have pinch hit for him last night? Oh that’s right in the midst of an off season for Jeter he came through in the clutch. Yeah it wasnt a blazing single but it found a hole and GOT THE JOB DONE. Just likes he’s been doing for 15 years and IMO years to come.

  26. Kevin S. says:

It matters because the Yankees actually do have a budget, and that extra $10 million they waste on Jeter is $10 million they can’t spend on somebody else.

Oh, right, in your fantasy land where the Yankees should have just given Johnny Damon whatever he wanted they don’t, but Cashman balked at Damon solely because he wouldn’t fit in the budget. No wishful thinking makes that go away.

  39. Fake Yankee fan says:

Now you’re comparing Damon’s situation to Jeter’s?, gimme a break.

The 10 mil they dont pay Jeter? If they pay Jeter at the same rate he is making now how in the hell does this affect this mysterious budget you speak of?

You really think the Yankees won’t sign someone that will help the team because Jeter makes to much? really? you really think that.

If they bring back Jeter at the same rate he make now, what changes? WHAT CHANGES? besides the collective panty bunch that will happen by so many of you.

Please since i “suck” so much. Someone explain to me how if the yanks sign jeter to equal or less then what he makes now affects the yankees? please explain this to me. Explain to me how if the Yankees need a top of the rotation SP how they will pass on Cliff Lee because they signed Jeter to what he makes now.

Why dont you respond with some thing, anything “close talker”? all you have is “this guy likes jeter”. It’s clear you’d be happy to let Jeter walk and have John Mcdonald play SS. Actually Ramiro Pena is cheap, he can do what Jeter does. who needs Jeter, let him walk. He’s killing our budget.
