That was just turrible

Vazquez: 5.1 IP, 6 R (3 ER), 4 BB, 5 K, 2 HR -- not helped by the fact that Francisco Cervelli is not good at baseball
Granderson: 0-4, K, having the worst offensive season of his career, .242/.309/.419 - .323 wOBA

Yah dude i drank my beah and watched your fahag team lose dude. It was sick brah. Hey dude my wife wore her pink hat. She’s also my sistah dude. One time when my bro Paps gave up a homah i slapped my wife who’s also my sistah in the face.
it was wicked sweet brah.
Looked more like a Javy brain-freeze to me: JV could have put that popup in his pocket, but he wanted to watch Cervelli try to catch it with his ill-suited mitt. And serving up those meatballs afterward sealed the deal. Guy’s first ML homer? Seriously?!
Stop criticizing Granderson! 5 months is a small sample size! He’s the best player ever!
I think we’ll lose 3 out 4 this series.
Losing 3 out of 4 would be disappointing but not surprising at all. At least split this series.
Really funny, average Red Sox fan. Having had the misfortune of living just outside Boston for 4 years, including 2007, I can say you are astoundingly accurate. Don’t fuck with a Sox fan at a game though. They take that shit very seriously, even if they are a bunch of incestuous assholes that have no idea what they’re talking about.
We win today because Lackey sucks and win tomorrow because AJ will be good and Beckett sucks even with the “he’s back” propaganda. Hoping for a split.
If you have ever been to Maine, you know well the misfortune that is a gathering of yuppie Bostonians, Yawkey trash and anorexic college students.
Where are the people who tried to correct me when I called Granderson average earlier this season? I need another dose of optimism, I’m beginning to think I was optimistic in that assessment. Maybe Detroit will take Joba and Montero for Ajax.
Now Javy Vazquez has “dead arm”. Ah, I get it – that’s just a fancy name for suckitis.
Has Cashman improved the team in any way since last year? Maybe Javy > Mitre in the rotation.
“Now Javy Vazquez has “dead arm”. Ah, I get it – that’s just a fancy name for suckitis.”
Suckitis? Dear Lord, what unbridled comedic genius! Nevermind the fact that Javy has a 3.74 ERA since May 1st. But seriously, you should get into stand-up. Your material is top notch.
“Nevermind the fact that Javy has a 3.74 ERA since May 1st.”
Since May 1st, these are the teams he’s started against:
Detroit, The Mets (twice), Minnesota, Baltimore, Toronto, Houston, Arizona, Seattle (twice), Oakland, the Angles, Cleveland, and Tampa. And against Tampa, the Twins, and the Angels (you know, the good lineups he faced), he was average.
Please stop with the sabermetric arguments and obscure stats; just don’t give him the ball in a meaningful game.
So now it’s Javier’s fault who he pitches against? Did you think any less of CC’s win streak because of the teams he faced?
“Please stop with the sabermetric arguments and obscure stats…”
ERA is neither sabermetric, nor obscure. But thanks for trying.
I do not think any less of CC’s win streak cause of the teams he’s faced. However, if I were gonna put up an argument as to the caliber of CC and Javy, I wouldn’t even mention Javy’s or CC’s win streak. I would cite these numbers in big games against a division rival that’s competitive:
CC: 8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 BB
Javy: 5 1/3 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 4 BB
“I do not think any less of CC’s win streak cause of the teams he’s faced.”
Then why do you think less of Vasquez’s ERA? If I call it an “ERA streak” will you then judge it neutrally?
“However, if I were gonna put up an argument as to the caliber of CC and Javy…”
I think you should ask an important question first: who exactly are you presenting this argument to?
Considering I never said “Javy is better than CC,” or “Javy should start a big game over CC,” this seems like a misguided effort.
Actually GW, it IS Javy’s fault who he faces. The Yankees have gone out of their way to skip some of his starts against better teams. Granted, they have stopped doing that this past month, but he has been pretty shitty against good teams.
Beating up on crappy teams and pitching average against good teams kinda diminishes the value of the stretch, can you at least concede that?
“The Yankees have gone out of their way to skip some of his starts against better teams.”
He was skipped once against the Red Sox when he was pitching terribly at the beginning of the season. He’s made every start regularly scheduled start since returning to the rotation. It’s not accurate to say the Yankees are actively keeping him away from the better teams.
“Beating up on crappy teams and pitching average against good teams kinda diminishes the value of the stretch, can you at least concede that?”
In this situation I’m assuming “better teams” score more runs than “crappy teams”. It stands to reason, then, that he would pitch worse against said “better teams.” Why is this upsetting/surprising? It would be nice if he could dominate the best lineups in the league, but he’s a fourth starter. I don’t expect that of him.
Answering your question further, it depends on how you view value. Unless it comes down to a tie at the end of the season, Vasquez’s pitching well versus “crappy” teams (ostensibly leading to wins) is similarly valuable to the Yankees as pitching well against “good” teams. Wins are wins at the end of the day. It’s almost analogous to saying that a run versus a good pitcher counts more than a run versus a bad one.
I’m not saying Javy Vasquez is awesome. I’m not saying he’s terrible. I’m saying he’s pitched well as of late. If you really feel the need to diminish that, then fine. I’m happy with getting good production from a back of the rotation arm.
“not helped by the fact that Francisco Cervelli is not good at baseball”
We are considering legal action for your blatant use of RAB-ese
Who’s this Gary Wallace guy?
And you didn’t hear it here, but we’ll be running a “Gardner regressing-to-the-mean” aricle any minute.
Knuckle-dragging Boston Beanheads say “brutha!” after every other word. “Brah” is native to Hawaii.
All I know if I once had a conversation with Bob Gibson, and he knows all about baseball and pitching because he couldn’t be bullied on the mound. Now in passing, Ozzie Guillen once said that Javy was not hard-nosed and mentally tough like Bob Gibson. Therefore I conclude Javy is not as good as Bob Gibson.
If is is if you are reading the first sentence of my post. In conclusion the word IF was supposed to be IS.
would like to be surfing somewhere warm… rather than hugging a hot water bottle and writing an assignment. Growing up sucks.
