The Strike Zone: A historical timeline

1996 - The Strike Zone is expanded on the lower end, moving from the top of the knees to the bottom of the knees.

1988 - "The Strike Zone is that area over home plate the upper limit of which is a horizontal line at the midpoint between the top of the shoulders and the top of the uniform pants, and the lower level is a line at the top of the knees. The Strike Zone shall be determined from the batter's stance as the batter is prepared to swing at a pitched ball."

1969 - "The Strike Zone is that space over home plate which is between the batter's armpits and the top of his knees when he assumes a natural stance. The umpire shall determine the Strike Zone according to the batter's usual stance when he swings at a pitch."

2010 - The Strike Zone is expanded to the opposite batter's box.

The strike zone was BS all night:

Not to mention that play at first prior to Bautista’s first home run. Tex’ foot was clearly on the bag and it should have been an out, and if the ump gets it right it’s a different ballgame.

I wear glasses, so clearly I have a better view of the strike zone than Granderson.

The strike zone is bigger this year in case anyone did’nt notice and its the main reason for the resurgance of pitching and the only way MLB can attempt to speed up games.

“excuse me sir did you call me out? Oh ok you did, thats cool sir, the pitch didnt look like a strike but you’re right. Good day sir and thank you for umping my AB, it was a pleasure”

  15. Angry old man says:

Bring back the balloon chest protector. It gives umps a better view of the true strike zone, offers complete protection from foul balls and would bring back the high strike call once in a blue moon. For the past few decades Umps have hide behind the catcher and guess at the outside pitch.
It the worse pitching change since than the pansy ass pitch counts and mandatory 9th inning relievers.
Now get that ball off my lawn.
