Flying under the radar on Alex Rodriguez’s big day was another scoreless Mariano Rivera inning. His ERA is now a mind-boggling 0.91!! His ERA+ heading into Wednesday’s game was 437!!
Honestly, what else can be said about this non-human? He is not of this world.
In terms of ERA+, his last three seasons (including 2010) are the best three-year stretch of his career. During ages 38-40, his ERA+ is 301! Unbelievable.
Here’s the complete stat sheet:
2008-2010
175.2 IP, 1.43 ERA, 185 K, 24 BB, 5 HBP, 108 H, 12 HR, 28 ER, 0.751 WHIP,
5.5 H/9, 0.6 HR/9, 1.2 BB/9, 9.5 K/9, 7.71 K/BB

He’s been alive for four and a half centuries, and he cannot die.

All time ERA+ leader (1000+ IP)
Andy_C_23 August 4, 2010 23:42
I heard they make steroids out of His blood. Can anyone confirm this?
Phieleblunt August 4, 2010 23:55
I think he is not quite as good as Papelbon, still he is pretty good.
Mariano Rivera August 5, 2010 00:03
Is special. I thank god, ju know? Without him, I would not be here doing this. Is fortunate.
Avon August 5, 2010 00:09
Unbelievable stats.
Cucch August 5, 2010 00:30
He’s no Trevor Hoffman. That changeup is more dainty than Mo’s cutter is filthy. Nasty. Causing no good, very bad days. Who am i kidding MARIANO FUCKING RULES. Greatest closer ever, and not by a little bit. I really think this man could go another five years. Ageless. We need to start a site, like ChuckNorrisfacts.com, for Mo. U know, things like:
Mariano Rivera’s tears cure cancer. Its a crying shame he never cries.
Chris August 5, 2010 01:58
I vote Cucch never talks again.
In Mo We Trust.
Jeter August 5, 2010 02:15
I went 4 for 4 today, guys.
Russ In Montclair August 5, 2010 02:19
I’ve been waiting for this game for a long time. Why? Well, everyone was so wrapped up in A-Rod’s milestone that they didn’t recognize Rivera’a achievement:

Ease up with the Mo-nut gargling.
Dangerous jinx ju-ju
John Walsh August 5, 2010 05:11
@Jeter
It’s about time.
We were about to feature your bat on America’s Most Wanted.
We had already placed it on the side of a milk carton.
Brandon August 5, 2010 05:27
Those bastards at the BBWAA better give him the Cy Young Award some day. He deserves it. Or this:rename the Rolaids Award after the Great One. The Mariano Rivera Award. Awesome
RandomSportsGuy August 5, 2010 06:09
The greatest of all time – Mariano Rivera.
Steve S. August 5, 2010 06:30
I’m still not convinced.
Jim Leyritz's Cellmate August 5, 2010 08:15
In all honesty, it is absolutely amazing what this man is doing and that he actually is ‘flying under the radar’ this year.
Every time this guy pitches a scoreless inning, people should just be screaming, “Oh my fucking God I can’t believe what I’m witnessing.” To me we are seeing the greatest ballplayer of many generations and for all we laud upon him, he actually deserves even more.
FancyPants August 5, 2010 08:18
I was way more excited about Mariano being the all-time ERA+ leader before I saw that Dan Quisenberry was fifth, Trevor Hoffman was fourteenth, and John Franco (vomit) was seventeenth.
Still, Mariano is a god.
Phieleblunt August 5, 2010 08:20
So it looks like that 4 year contract wasn’t such a terrible thing after all
Dave Cameron August 5, 2010 08:43
Years no, but over three years, he’s pitched 172 innings. So dollar-wise, yes. A solid starter will give you that in one year.
For $15, you can come hear me speak about how wonderful the Seattle Mariners are. Or lick my diseased nipples. Whichever you prefer.
Sensitive RAB guy August 5, 2010 08:45
@Dave Cameron:
This.
KingOfTheCentaurs August 5, 2010 09:10
This is definitely in the Top 10 of NoMaas photoshops. Fitting for one of the greatest players of all time.
Jim Leyritz's Cellmate August 5, 2010 09:43
His ERA+ is 437 and this is the year of the pitcher…. holy fucking batshit shit fuck… that’s amazing!
Nomaas sucks August 5, 2010 09:48
Derek Jeter had a great game yesterday, looks to be heating up.
I’m glad we held on to him and didn’t deal him at the deadline. If Nomaas was GM they would have traded Jeter for John McDonald and a hummer from Bill James.
Derek Jeter August 5, 2010 11:21
Dude, even I know when I’m having a down year, and deserve criticism. I wish all these DI superfans would get off my nuts, they’re getting raw.
Jon Schimenti August 5, 2010 11:24
Haha, i remember showalter tried to put him in rotation in 1995, fucking idiot. its funny, mo is having this great year even though he’s 40, when i had him on my fantasy team in 2002, all he did was get hurt and i had to have steve karsay as closer, thanks, fucking asshole
Fransucko Cersucki August 5, 2010 11:25
Cervelli sucks, is Jesus ready yet?
Steve August 5, 2010 11:50
So it looks like that 4 year contract wasn’t such a terrible thing after all
Neither was the 3 year deal he actually got.
Steve August 5, 2010 11:51
Jon, can you tell us more about your 2002 fantasy team? That was fascinating.
U serious Derek August 5, 2010 12:15
We all know you’re having an down year, why exactly do you “deserve” criticism?
If anything you’re one of the few that dont “deserve” it
I think most people that became Yankee fans in 1996 need a hard does of the Andy Stankawitz days to know that Jeter can do whatever he wants for how ever long he wants.
I hope they pay him an absurd contract like 4 years 120 mil, just so i cant see all you cry and whine over something that has no affect on the Yankees and the way they will do business.
OMG jeter is swinging at balls at a higher % then his career. PANIC TIME PANIC!!!!!!!, SIRENS GOING OFF PANIC PEOPLE PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
John McDonald yankee SS 2011!!!!!!!!!!

Mariano Rivera can believe it’s not butter.
Mariano Rivera can judge a book by it’s cover.
Mariano Rivera can strike you out in the batter’s box.
Steve August 5, 2010 13:02
We all know you’re having an down year, why exactly do you “deserve” criticism?
Do you actually think you are talking to Derek Jeter?
Rich Mahogany August 5, 2010 13:12
At this point a lot of people take Mo’s effectiveness for granted and only notice his performance if he screws up. He is the Google of closers.
Fransucko Cersucki August 5, 2010 13:23
Lets talk about how much Francisco Cervelli sucks.
R2-D2 August 5, 2010 13:30
Mo gets a spot on the top shelf with Babe, Gehrig, Joe D, Mickey.
I don’t even want to think about when he retires. This will never ever happen again in our lifetime. What he does is something short of miraculous.
U serious Derek August 5, 2010 15:01
The person wrote there comment as being derek Jeter, i responded like wise. To hard to figure out?
Jon Paplebaum August 5, 2010 16:31
i like to grab my crotch and watch hr’s go out of the ballpark
U serious Derek August 5, 2010 16:48
Derek doesnt need to be criticiszed!!! he gets aFREE pass!! HE SHOULD BE THE NEXT OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put his SACK in YOUR MOUTH!! TASTes sooooo goood!
FNG August 5, 2010 16:50
It’s simply impossible to choose whats best about this site: The comical photoshops, the exceptionsl stat/research, fantastic interviews, these posts… where comics, intellects and natives of Doucheland all commingle to create a virtual vat of bliss… or a steaming pile of fecal matter, depending on your point of view.
Francisco Cervelli August 5, 2010 18:53
Hey Fransucko Cersucki, watch what you say. I know a guy who knows a guy…
Cody Ransom August 5, 2010 19:49
I’ll be the SS in 2011!
RC3 August 6, 2010 01:17
It is going to be difficult to keep coming up with ways to talk about how amazing he is. He just continues to defy expectations. Having to go with a mortal closer is going to be tough to take.
? August 6, 2010 10:12
“Derek doesnt need to be criticiszed!!! he gets aFREE pass!! HE SHOULD BE THE NEXT OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put his SACK in YOUR MOUTH!! TASTes sooooo goood!”
I’m still trying to figure out what there is to “criticize”?
Learn how to spell one day “criticiszed” you serious with that?
Judging by your spelling and the fact you used the same name as i did to pretend i wrote it, you must be 12 or younger. If not you have much bigger problems. Enjoy life, it’s gonna be a long one for you.
? August 6, 2010 20:06
Also, his sack is delicious, I might add.
The Jerk August 6, 2010 21:11
“going to be difficult to keep coming up with ways to talk about how amazing he is.”
Lionel Ritchie, yo, can we get a video like the one you did for “All Night Long” but with Andy jumpin a fence into a split, Suzyn Waldman dancing with you, DJ moonwalking on Mo’s nuts and Jorge dressed as the funky policeman? Respec
History Professor August 7, 2010 03:31
Mariano Rivera is like the Jeff Feagles of closers.
The Real Mo Rivera August 16, 2010 01:01
