Phil Hughes hasn’t seen the 7th inning in two months

Monday, September 6, 2010 at 12:28 am by Gary Wallace

Quick Analytical Blurbs

The last time Phil Hughes pitched past the 6th inning was on July 9th. He's been around 100 pitches in each of these starts, so it's not just simply the organization limiting his innings. He's becoming increasingly inefficient. Girardi hasn't admitted it yet, but it sure looks like Hughes is burning out.

What a mess this rotation is. Hope the Yankees' bats are ready to carry the playoff load.

Pray for Andy to make a dramatic return. If we didn’t have CC we’d be fucked in the ass.

Thankfully there is not another rotation worth much more of a shit on the rest of the AL contending teams.

Hughes seemed more effective in previous seasons while mixing in that huge 12 to 6 curve. Now it seems like he’s abandoned that pitch for cut fastballs. Why? Maybe time to look for a new pitching coach for next season?

Bartonbickle, you don’t think Tampa has a very good rotation? CC is the best pitcher on either team, but after that Tampa probably has the next three best starters. I am not counting Pettitte, because he hasn’t pitched in an awfully long time and who knows how he’ll be when he gets back. If Pettitte doesn’t come back pitching very well, the difference between the Tampa and NY rotations will be huge.

Your rotation isn’t nearly as good as mine you fucks!!! Just wait until we sneak in and embarrass all of MLB with another WS title featuring a roster of nobodies and call ups.

August 9th, August 14th, August 19th, three straight starts he went 6 complete. Two of those he was at less than 100 pitches, so he could have gone out to ‘see the 7th’. As if it made a difference.

    Lineup: 2009 > 2010

    - Down year by Jeter offsets Swisher’s 2010 year

    Rotation: 2009 > 2010

    - I would have given the edge to 2010 since Javy SHOULD HAVE made it 4 able bodies but Andy’s injury, Javy being a nonfactor and AJ being crap = 2009 wins

    Bullpen: 2009 > 2010

    - Better depth, Hughes locking down the 8th in 2009. 2010 reminds me of bullpens of seasons past.

    Bench: 2009 < 2010

    - Thames, Berkman, Kearns, Cervelli beat out Hairston & Molina.

I see 3 quality starts in August with two other near quality starts if he didn’t get pulled in the 6th. How is that bad???

“Phil Hughes should win the Cy Young because he has a lot of wins! But if a pitcher from a non-Yankees team has a not of wins, they don’t count.”

  13. Lou Brown says:

WTF, so Burnett and Vazquez can suck to entirely new levels and you post about Hughes? Hughes in all rights is a FIFTH starter who gives a shit if he does bad, the other two suck bags are getting top of the rotation order.

Next you’ll be complaining about our bull-pen catchers and batting practice pitchers.

Phil Hughes should with the quality start Cy Young. And then put him in the quality start Hall of Fame.

@modey3 No one on Nomaas, which allegedly is a place for informed fans, should invoke “quality start” as a defense for anyone. Quality start is the stupidest stat ever invented. Let’s make 1 for 4 the batter’s version of quality start. Then whenever someone goes 1 for 4 you can say he had a quality day at the plate and feel awesome inside.

Quality start is like kissing your sister.

How many times can nomaas make a post about Burnett and Vazquez? I mean, they make fun of Burnett at every opportunity. Where have you been?

The point of this post is correct. Hughes has been laboring since the middle of the summer.

@turn2: How is the Quality Start a stupid stat? When you go through an entire season with a Quality Start Percentage (QS%) of >60% that means you gave your team a good chance to win for most of your starts. Think it through before you spout nonsense! Anybody else want to argue against the QS? Bringing in the 1-for-4 hitter “Quality Day” was a poor analogy because a hitter who always goes 1-for-4 has a small impact on his team winning. A pitcher who pitches a QS gives his team a good chance at winning. The best pitchers in baseball have high QS% I find it hard to believe Gary Wallace believes the QS is useless.

Seriously I don’t get it, usually you guys are money with the articles, this one needs some more work, I hope the ego Gods don’t get upset. Minka should stop calling Derek and bother him on his day off especially in the Dog Days of the season. Derek it’s K Long, pick up the phone, he wants to shorten your swing, not your contract
