With 12 runners left on base, including bases loaded in the 11th, Sunday’s loss to Baltimore is symptomatic of the Yankees’ recent stretch of poor results — It was another game of stranded runners. While it seems like this happens all the time, we looked at the season totals for perspective.
Runners On
.267/.357/.442 (2nd best in AL)
Runners in Scoring Position
.259/.361/.425 (5th best in AL)
Based Loaded
.380/.421/.620 (Best in AL)
Runners in Scoring Position, 2 outs
.243/.351/.376 (8th best in AL)

Situational hitting: Swish tops the team hitting .350/.419/.594 with runners on base.

Due for a huge fucking correction. It must start tomorrow.

Sensitive RAB Guy has a hard on looking at this pic. We need to take 3 out of 4.

*Doesnt start Arod or Teix because the games dont matter and were “resting up” for the postseason where we wont have any homefield advantage*
*Game is tied and Arod and Teix come off the bench in the 10th innning.*
*Uses Mo for 2 innings in a tie game on the road vs Texas up 2 and a half games on the Rays*
*Uses Gaudin and Mitre in a tie game vs the Rays with only a half game lead on the division*

Hitting w/ RISP is an overrated stat. What’s more important is getting guys in scoring position and putting pressure on the defense/pitcher.
Would you rather go 2 for 3 or 2 for 13 w/ RISP?
Matt September 20, 2010 00:38
BTW- I mean CONSISTANTLY getting guys on base.
History Professor September 20, 2010 00:56
or 5 for 13?

This shit works itself out. Nothing to see here, move along.
Actually, it’s probably a *good* thing that this is happening – shows the struggles are more Yanks getting fucked by the Random Variation Gods than any kind of underlying fundamental problem.
Joe Girardi September 20, 2010 01:23
It’s all my fault!
I told Mo to serve up a meatball.
I told Berkman to ground into a double play.
I told Thames to strike out.
Small Sample Size September 20, 2010 07:47
Berkman might run slower than Molina. Not sure who would win in a race.
Joe Girardi's Management Style September 20, 2010 07:58
Never let the other manager make a move without responding with two of your own, no matter how ridiculous.

I think the Joba-Situation photoshop is still my favorite – but this one is pretty damn good. At least Swish is more likely to actually appear on the Jersey Shore.

I hate it when guys wear their pants/shorts so low that you can see the beginning of their crotch.

[Berkman might run slower than Molina. Not sure who would win in a race.]
I think ultimately diabetes wins this race…

Let’s look at things honestly. This is a team of .260 hitters and Cano. They walk a lot, but when you just need a single, there are not many good ones this year.
Random Photoshop Complainer September 20, 2010 11:07
@27Rings
Yanks are 2nd best with runners on base, so what is your claim based on?
Voomo Zanzibar September 20, 2010 11:26
Girardi and an expanded roster are a bad combination.
Joe is a good manager when he just puts a $200 million team on the field and watches the game.
Small Sample Size September 20, 2010 12:04
Joe makes moves in way that scream “see look I can manage too guys”.
I wonder how many games this team would win with a good manager…not even great…just an above average manager.
FNG September 20, 2010 12:21
“Manager” of a club isnt merely making a call during a game. What about dealing with the egos of the players and creating a winning chemistry. This may not be the most powerful Yankee team we’ve seen, but they appear to play well together. Sometimes desire to win overcomes sheer talent. Hopefully that takes the Yanks deep into the playoffs and number 28!
Voomo Zanzibar September 20, 2010 13:15
FNG i understand your point. It is a good point.
But we are talking about in-game right here.
Why is Ramiro Pena leading off the ninth inning with Alex and Nunez on the bench?
And Thames/Gardner switch? Ever? Ugh.

No Ivan the Terrible photo shops???? So confused! By next year we’ll own half of the rays team anyway.
