It’s not that they didn’t give a damn. It’s that their pitching staff was decimated in or around late July. Vazquez and Burnett were consistently beyond useless and Hughes really started to falter in the second half. Pettitte was nursing an injury and Sabathia was fine.
It would really sting right now if I didn’t know that they’ll be much better next year. There’s almost no question that they’re adding Cliff Lee and perhaps another decent OF. They will have Montero replace Cervelli and the lineup will be better than it has been in years. Everything really is not so bad.
Texas had a better team this year, there was little doubt about that to anyone who really watched baseball in the second half.
