I dunno but I think all this discussion is BS. The Yankees look tired because they play in the toughest division, which incidentally spends the most money in Baseball! Playing Toronto, the Sox, the Rays and then revitalized Baltimore takes its toll. I don’t think the Yankees lacked guts, they looked tired. As a TEAM! Only Cano and Granderson looked good.
No excuses here Texas whipped our butts. Cashman has got to figure out how to get these guys he has got and the ones he has to sign through the season will enough rest to survive the world series.
Amazingly Alex said it best
It all stems from pitching…
If the Yankees can upgrade their pitching and convince Woods to stay as set-up man they are dangerous. Plus with Montero you could have the following line-up
Jeter
Granderson
Tex
Arod
Cano
Montero
Posada
Swisher
Gardner
Not bad
Rotation
CC
Lee/Oswalt/anybody other than AJ
Huges
AJ
Petite
Bullpen
Joba
Robertson
Mosely
Lefty
Lefty
Mariano
Not a bad team
I am disappointed but you could see the cracks in September. The Yanks dragged themselves into October and then met a hot good team.
Reality is that unless the Yanks get cutthroat we’ve got 5 years of a balancing act young old high paid and trying to keep the budget. I love Jeter and think he deserves 3 years. Not smart business but he should retire as a Yankee. We got Posada in his last year (no more) Mariano deserves at least 1 if not 2 years, Arod got a while but at third hes ok for a while.
Now I’m ranting but it will be fine next year. At least we know as Yankee fans something will happen and we will not hear ‘we are going for pitching and defense…’

Cashman needs to blow up this team and start over. Starting with firing Retardi. This team sucks.

Teams that have developed exciting young & hungry players that were developed through their farm systems received top picks due to their poor performances.
Kind of hard to have WS expectations each yr & to develop impact players through their farm system. The impact players I am talking about are usually drafted within the top 10 pcks of the draft. We have been incredibly spoiled by our former owner “The Boss”.
If were going to do what we do best, & thats to rely on the FA market, & international scouting our players are going to be older. Average age of first time FA player is 28-29. By the time we sign them & they play 1-2 yrs their already in theiir early 30′s.

Wow, so many complaints for a team that made it to the ALCS. One bad stretch and the team needs to be blown up? Did you think that after the Minnesota series? No. Stop being ridiculous. We’ll be back next year contending for a title, for sure. Especially if you add Cliff Lee

????
In the international market, players start getting signed when they are like 16 years old, so I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about. Heard of Jesus Montero? That’s the great thing about the international market. So go learn something before you just spout random shit out of your mouth

what if cliff lee says no to ca$hman’s offer?
it’s not always about the money (he may be in that rare .01%).

Yanks lost for the same reason the Phillies lost. Not deep in pitching and big name players that are on the downside of their careers. The sad part is, there is very little Cashman can do about for next year. Only jeter is a free agent and he will be back. Replacing pitching is even harder. Outside of Lee, nothing out there. Kids still a year or two away. Hey, we won last year.

I love how fans can point to a 6-game series and make broad statements about what’s wrong with the Yankees. The previous 165 games didn’t count.

The rent is too damn high !

These teams are aging. I think Jetes epitomizes the toll going deep into the playoffs over time. Missed the post-season in 08, won the Champtionship in 09 on a career year and winds up sucking wind in 2010.
