We did this last year, and we’re doing it again. We present random statistical tidbits from the completed season.
Nick Swisher swung at more pitches outside the strike zone (25.7%) and at more pitches overall (45.7%) than in any other year of his career.
Interestingly, he also registered career-highs for his rate of contact swinging at pitches outside the strike zone (61.4%) and swinging at pitches overall (79.5%).
With this surge in aggressiveness, it shouldn’t be surprising that his pitches per plate appearance was at a career-low 4.02.

This is appropriately named.
But yes, interesting. To some degree.

The Carl Crawford photoshop was better.

It is interesting. He swung at a lot more this season, but also made contact more (rate-wise). I wonder if this less patient approach could backfire on him next season.

It’s boring to watch batters just stand there with the bat on their shoulders and never swing (like Nick Johnson). I’m glad that Swisher was more aggressive in 2010.

You must love Jeff Francour then.

@Don:
Ironically, Nick doesn’t swing the bat, doesn’t play the field, but still had a season ending vagina sprain in April…

@ Don
Because, of course, the most important thing for a GM to do is field an amusing baseball team. Myself, I prefer players that get on base, hit home runs, steal bases, get hits…. ya know, productive things.

NoMaas would do a post on Jayson Werth, but they can only do racist photoshops.

Why did we go from criticizing obvoius flaws like constructing teams around “entertaining players” like vlad guerrero, francoeur, and yuneskiy betancourt to making a sales pitch for a guy who was a journeyman COF until 2008?
