How about another multi-year deal for a LOOGY? Then save whatever is left to extend Jeter’s deal. The rotation isn’t as important when there are enough situational lefties to deal with the later innings.
I think the Yankees must have the extra money in an orange savings account with ING earning a better than average interest rate. Ca$h is probably going to pocket the difference.
Omgzgdaazzzzz you’re right it was a bad idea! I’m pretty sure they said so more than once. I just hope you didn’t want Johnny D or Matsui instead. UIEHFAEFJKHBMDSCZCMDBHVMDSSHBMSHB NOMAAAS IS WRRONNNGGNGGG!!!!!!!!! TAKT EHE SITE DOWN!!!!!!
Ok. But then who do you want him to, or who would you have wanted him to sign? Or would you have just preferred he magically make the Red Sox not trade for A-Gon/sign Crawford and change Lee’s attitude on full-heartedly wanting to go to Philly?
No one is saying that, but it’s not like Cashman should have paid Carl Crawford $142 million for 7 years. That would be even worse than what he has done.
Tell me what you want him to have done differently?
the only thing cashman could have done different was sign choate for a fraction of feliciano’s price, sign jenks, and put chamberlain in the rotation. i get the feeling his baseball, front office, or p.r. ppl won’t let him put chamberlain back in the rotation. unless internally thats the secret plan which they will unveil at end of spring training. i will jizz my pants.
No he should of just bid against himself and give Jeter another year for no freaking reason. And then keep one of their best pitchers (Joba) and stick him into their bullpen. And use Nova/Mitre as their 4/5. … Yeah he’s been amazing.
Well, I don’t think he has an anxiety disorder like Greinke. How many people do we want to automatically preclude from being able to “handle NY?” Pretty soon no one will come.
well i think the will go hard for jamie moyer or at least one pitcher who hes better days past long time pitcher like tomy young a graet candidate for the5 spot in rotationor maybe a comeback for nolan ryan sounds good,in the lay off game he will pitch with conac bottler in the pocket
Is this one of those posts where NoMaas pretends they know more about running the Yankees than the Yankees do?
If that’s the case, let’s ignore the fact that there is no one decent available on the market and pretend that the Yankees should be dealing for guys like King Felix while giving up scrubs! I know! Joba and Gardner for Felix! The Mariners will definately bite! They would be stupid not to!
The Yankees suck! Boo! Hiss!! Let’s get Brien Taylor or a 4th catcher! NoMass rules and they are soooooooooo funny! HAHAHAHAHA!!!
No offense but if NoMaas wants to be taken seriously, they need to drop this “We are smarter than the Yankees” act. It’s LOL bad and reflects poorly on this website.
Of course nothing would be complete without the angry nomaas supporters that will w/o a doubt call me an idiot for stating the obvious!
You’re right! Good blogs support anything their respective team does no matter what it may be! Why the fuck didn’t Nomaas support giving Jeter 4 years? What assholes.
Yankee fans come here for entertainment value and occasional stat-based opinions. Right now, the Yankees have 2.5 starting pitchers and there is no one else left on the market. So Nomaas is giving us a place to vent while also poking fun out of the situation.
I’m not sure NoMaas thinks it could have done much better his offseason. It wanted Jenks but can’t really think that’s a big deal. Clearly nothing could be done about the only guy that mattered, Cliff Lee. So what is there to argue about? Nothing, really. That’s why they put up a ridiculous poll like this. You are really over thinking this one, buddy.

How about we sign Brian Fuentes and move Joba to the rotation? 2010 he pitched 48 innings, struck out 47 and gave up 31 hits. He can also get out guys who bat right handed. How about Jason Frasor? Also, we could Joba to the rotation. Jon Rauch? Joba. Rotation.
I’ve always been pro ‘Joba in the rotation’ guy, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that they’re not going to do it. maybe it has something to do with the shoulder injury he had? I stopped trying to figure it out and I’m happier for it.

I’m looking for a second LOOGY to replace Boone Logan.
There’s a pitcher currently in the big leagues, in someone’s rotation, who is a good bet (IMO) to get DFA’d at some point this summer. I think he could be picked up and converted into a reliever; his delivery is funky enough that despite not being a very solid pitcher overall, he annhiliates lefties.
His split this year against LHB is .188/.278/.261 (.293 BABIP) with a 28/8 K/BB in 80 TBF; for his career he’s .203/.280/.292 against lefties (.285 BABIP) with a 240/71 K/BB in 822 TBF. This guy has given up 106 homers in his career, but only 10 of those were against southpaws. He walks way too many guys, but again, the preponderance of his control issues have been against righties; against lefties his arm action and raw stuff is still good enough to keep them off balance and allow him to pound the zone and get K’s without being sharp.
Sounds like a decent buy low option, right? Wait for him to get DFA’d, pick him up for the veteran minimum, move him to the bullpen, and see if he can just become an Arthur Rhodes-type lefty assassin?
Have I intrigued you? When I tell you the name, you’re going to stop being intrigued. But I think you still should be.
Hmmm let’s see…Zach Greinke, a young, talented pitcher who has demonstrated success in the AL and is almost universally viewed as an upgrade to anyone not named CC in the NYY rotation was a no go because he is believed to be something of a mental case waiting to happen. And your saying that a guy who has absolutely sucked, in the easier NL, and who suffered from the exact same mental illness that Greinke did, would be a good fit for the high leverage, high stress role of reliever?
Hmmm good thinking. Keep up the good work maybe you can take over for Gammons someday.
