Yea, Vernon Wells is owed $86 million over the next four seasons. And Toronto general manager Alex Anthopolous got the Angels to take it all.

That deal stinks for the Angels. Juan Rivera stinks but Mike Napoli is a decent ballplayer. Wasn’t he the Angels’ starting C? The move doesn’t make sense. I’m baffled trying to figure it out.

Toronto has an older catcher (Molina) and a young stud (Arencibia) that they did bring up at the end of last year and I believe they have a first baseman as well (Adam Lind)so Napoli makes no sense. Juan Rivera is a fat load of garbage too, so how is this deal good for Toronto on a player level.For the salary, how does this make sense at all for Anaheim when all they did is swap the same production. Total panic move, and on a salary level a great move for Toronto though it doesnt help much on field as I said before.
The Yankees non moves are a ton better than some moves made this offseason.

Toronto would have taken Juan Rivera’s grandfather and Mrs. Mike Napoli to rid themselves of that $86 Million albatross owed to Vernon Wells over the next 4 years. I cannot believe they were able to dump that contract and actually get back serviceable players. Now Toronto has payroll flexibility to build a team around some decent young starters and compete in the AL Beast. Anthopolous has won the offseason.
