Randy Levine, the Yankees’ president, responded pointedly to Greenberg’s assertion that only the Rangers’ maneuvering kept Cliff Lee from signing with the Yankees in free agency.
“I think Chuck is delusional,” Levine said Friday. “He’s been in the game for a few minutes and he seems to have mastered what everybody’s thinking. I think he should let Cliff Lee speak for himself, and if he really wants to impress us with the job he’s doing with the Rangers, he should try to get off and stay off of welfare and prove that they can be a revenue-sharing payer for three years. That would really be something.”
