I feel so Meh about this.
Part of me wants Benny to shoot some HGH in my ample ass, and part of me wants to move to Deer Park to make him mine FOREVER….

Even the RAB-douchebags can stop yammering & appreciate that W-L line for a minute.
Sad day.
Johnathan February 4, 2011 01:15
It’s a sad day, but let’s not act like Andy was irreplaceable. Or a hall of famer. Not saying I’m not grateful for his contributions, I’m just being honest.
Do Your homework? Like ever? February 4, 2011 07:31
From yankees.com: Pettitte is the all-time leader in postseason wins (19), starts (42) and innings pitched (263). His 240 career wins are the 13th-most by a left-hander in Major League history. In postseason play, he is tied for second in strikeouts (173) with Roger Clemens, 26 behind John Smoltz. His 203 Yankees victories put him third in franchise history, behind Hall of Famers Whitey Ford (236) and Red Ruffing (231), and his 1,823 strikeouts are second to Ford in team history. He ranks 16th all-time for strikeouts by a left-hander with 2,251.
Now, I don’t get to vote for the HOF as I’m not a member of the BBWAA, but I’m guessing you’re not either. We’ll have to wait 5 years, but I will not be surprised at all to see Andy’s induction.
[Censored] February 4, 2011 10:41
LOL, using postseason counting stats is your smug argument? He played in more games than older pitchers because of the wildcard rounds.
I am not saying Andy should or shouldn’t be in HoF (who the fuck cares anyway) but using these wild card inflated stats that show Jeter Bernie and Andy as the best postseason performers OF ALL TIME!!!11!!!1 is stupid, especially combined with your stupid dismissive name.
Dismissive Name February 4, 2011 11:48
You miss the point, [Censored]. Obviously the more post season games a pitcher appears in, the more opportunities he has to pile up stats. Duh, my kid gets how statistics work. Andy always performed well under pressure and rose to the occasion. He was blessed to play on championship caliber teams. The post-season stats only accentuate his already impressive career regular season numbers. It’s not a smug argument and the wild card, like it or not, is how baseball has changed over the years. Bemoaning that is like lamenting the evolution of different leagues and divisions or protesting expansion teams. Get over it.
[Censored] February 4, 2011 12:14
You are gay.
[Censored] February 4, 2011 12:17
Oh yeah, are more LOL’s to your clutch argument, keep it coming.
Dismissive Name February 4, 2011 15:14

there’s one other pitcher IN MLB HISTORY who’s 100+ wins over .500 — and NOT in the HOF.

uh-oh, now i gotta find another hgh connection
Andy's Plaque in Cooperstown February 4, 2011 06:08
See you in 5-10 years fuck faces
Well, it's official... February 4, 2011 07:36
We’re fucked. Mitre + Nova + any one of the burned out arms the Yanks picked up does nothing to instill confidence in me. The old adage that good pitching beats good hitting may be proven once again. Hey, maybe Swisher can start every five days. His career ERA is 0.00.
Joe Camel February 4, 2011 07:41
Andy looks more like me than the Marlboro Man.
Keep the spark alive kids,
Joe Camel
Johnathan February 4, 2011 07:57
It wouldn’t shock me at all if he does get in. Moose will be a good litmus test, he was by all measures a superior pitcher, if he has trouble getting in that won’t bode well for Andy. Keep in mind the ballot is gonna be pretty crowded in 5 years with guys who didn’t quite make it in. If you are convinced Andy belongs, what about Jack Morris? Andy was for most of his career a great #3 starter, and I mean that in the nicest way possible.
vinny-b February 4, 2011 10:01
without question, the mentally toughest baseball player i’ve ever watched.
no one milked more from their skill-set, when it mattered most, then Pettitte. No one.
Johnathan February 4, 2011 11:40
You can’t argue with the results, he won big games for us, aside from that colossal teabagging in Arizona. But it’s not like he had some magical 6th gear or something. His basic stats and almost all his peripherals in the postseason were eerily identical to his regular season stats.
Average Yankee Fan February 4, 2011 10:09
hgh? does anyone remember hgh? yankee fans are beyond narrow minded. If andy had done it clean he would be in the hall in about 10 years. But because of his cheating he will never be in the hall of fame with border line numbers. i’m also pretty happy that the rotation is filled with 4th starters.
vinny-b February 4, 2011 10:10
STFU.
Yes, please STFU. February 4, 2011 11:10
I’d say you’re a Below Average Yankees fan. Yes, Andy admits to taking hgh. That was before the ban and his motive was to heal from an injury, you jackass. He was not cheating, like Bonds, Clemens, Manny, A-Roid, etc. all of whom were healthy at the time of their use of PE drugs. It will be interesting to see how the BBWAA handles Andy’s HOF voting and ot may be telling as to how long PE drugs will be a black eye on baseball. Were the guys who did pills in the 70s was that PE drug use? I think so. Those guys are in the HOF. My take is fucking get over it.
Fact Checker February 4, 2011 11:57
Yeah, he took HGH. No, it wasn’t before any sort of ban. HGH is a prescription drug. Using it without a prescription is a felony. The recent drug testing rules did not server to make steroid use illegal in baseball – federal law handles that just fine – but rather served to give MLB power to test for it.
HGH also isn’t performance enhancing. People took it hoping it would be, or that it would help heal injuries. The medical research since then shows that for a person with normal HGH levels, taking more has no positive effects and a lot of negative ones.
Basically, taking HGH is just a really stupid thing to do.
Average Yankee Fan February 4, 2011 12:11
Actually, hgh is a performance enhancing drug because he was able to get on the field faster. No matter how you slice it or argue about it he’s not getting in. If Jeff Bagwell who didn’t take steriods or hgh didn’t get in the hof then someone who did and admitted it will not get in. average yankee fan is a joke because i think most yankee fans are. If the bbwaa were yankee fans Don mattingly would be in the hall. hey guess what he’s not becuase he’s not a hofer. You get over it.
STFU February 4, 2011 12:53
See Brandon’s comment from February 3, 2011 at 11:06 pm above. An true average Yankees fan appreciates Andy’s performance over the years, HOF election or not.
Average Yankee Fan February 4, 2011 13:20
stfu great point. Met him in person and is genuinely an awesome guy. I apperciated him and i’ll apperciate him even more when the Tampa Bay and the Orioles have a better rotation than the Yankees. I’m just saying he cheated and he knows he cheated. Fans have to understand that Sammy Sosa “admitted” that he had a cork bat but that didn’t make it ok.
[Censored] February 4, 2011 13:40
Lol, name drop. This thread is priceless.
Fact Checker February 4, 2011 13:30
If you have actual evidence to back your claim that HGH helped him get on the field faster, you should send it in to some medical journals. You’d get published quite easily and would have no problem getting a lucrative job in medical research.
Until then, I’ll continue to believe the medical community.
Average Yankee Fan February 4, 2011 14:30
what are you talking about? hgh is given to older people to help them recover from falls and injuries. I think someone is making tons of money on that research already.
Fact Checker February 4, 2011 14:52
Any doctor that did that would lose their medical license if they were reported.
The only FDA approved reasons to prescribe HGH involve abnormally low natural HGH production, certain kidney diseases, and a few genetic disorders.
Are you that fucking blind? February 4, 2011 22:49
DOUCHEBAG ALERT!!!! “Fact Checker”? Change that right away to “I speak directly from my ass”. Pick up a newspaper and see how many ads are there soliciting HGH for age, fat loss and overall “fountain of youth”. (HGH deficiency is simple to document. One of the “signs” is “bodyfat around the waist. Yeah, that would impossible for a physician to document, right FACT CHECKER?) ANY ELDERLY person will have diminished GH production cause THE BODY STOPS MAKING IT. You’re a clueless idiot. Anyone without steroid and or medical experience that attempts to speak about the topic is simply spewing from their anus. And yes, that answers your obvious follow up question you dumb, ignorant fuck. Watching ESPN and reading SI doesn’t make you an authority. Shut your face and speak about what you know about… attempting to make yourself sound important. Google HGH treatment you clown.

Johnathan February 4, 2011 11:37
The bottom line is that if our fate this year was this closely tied to a 39 year old, slightly above league average (at this point) innings eater (injuries are starting to mount though, who knows how many he would have pitched this year), then the Yankees really need to go back to the drawing board and/or see once and for all what some of our prospects (or Joba without kid gloves) are capable of. Although I did hear that Oil Can Boyd is looking to stick with a team this spring.

“Of all the dramatic things I have ever seen! Andy Pettitte, is in Hank’s box! Look at the Yankee dugout; Freddy Garcia is smiling, Russell Martin, he knew! Now we don’t have to wonder who gets that final spot in the rotation, John!”
Impeach John & Suzyn February 4, 2011 13:13
Guys, let’s not get lost in the Hall of Fame/HGH question here. Today is about remembering & appreciating someone who gave us a shitload of terrific memories, pitching his heart out for the Pinstripes whenever he took the mound. Letting him go for those three years was one of the worst moves by the NYY brass, certainly costing us at least one more championship. I remember exaclty where I was watching 1996′s Game 5 masterpiece vs. Smoltz, jumping off the couch & half-covering my eyes. And I had a stadium seat for his last great moment, the 2009 WS clincher. He wasn’t the best pitcher ever (see: 2001 Game 6 vs. AZ) but he’s certainly in the Pantheon of Yankee greats. There will be an Andy Pettitte Day & his number should be retired. I’ll always remember the look of those eyes below the cap brim, staring in at the plate. That look said, “I am not a pussy Jesus-freak redneck Rocket gay lover… I’m a goddamned Yankee, and you’re toast, batter!” I’m gonna miss that.
Thanks, Andy!

Wow, Nomaas does something classy? You guys couldn’t even do something classy after the final game at Yankee Stadium.
Randy Levine February 4, 2011 15:19
Probably because the old stadium was a dilapidated shit heap which had about as much DNA of the original as our new super sports palace has. Plus its much easier to keep the poors out of this stadium. We really hate poor people.

Fans, now that Andy Pettitte is gone don’t miss out on an opportunity to own a piece of BASEBALL HISTORY! The New York Yankees have teamed up with Steiner Sports to offer fans a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity! 25,000 lucky Yankee fans have a chance to own an authentic, autographed replica of the water bottle Andy Pettitte sipped from at his retirement press conference! This can be yours for the introductory price of only $349.95! Act now, at this price these won’t last! (Dirty sideways looks from Laura Pettitte not included)
JoeThunder February 4, 2011 19:39
I really am going to miss Andy. He is a personal fav of mine and has been since ’95. He’s easily one of the best pitchers in Yankees history and he should have a day and a plaque in Monument Park. As for Cooperstown I doubt he’ll get in. The voters will keep him out b/c of the whole HGH thing and if Jack Morris isn’t in yet then Pettitte doesn’t get in.
BadAssBillyCurtis February 4, 2011 19:47

duh February 7, 2011 07:19
I can’t for the life of me understand those who would dismiss his post-season stats due to the fact that the post-season has expanded and he had more opportunities. Is there no consideration for the fact that he had more opportunities because of his performance during the regular season? Yes, I realize it’s a team, but it’s no fluke that he had that many ps appearances … he earned them with stellar regular season performances. Same holds for the ps itself … you can’t have appearances in the ALCS or NLCS without pitching well in the division series, and obviously the same for the WS. So, let’s not be so quick to dismiss his post-season numbers … it isn’t like those opportunities were handed to him. He EARNED them, and he performed WELL. Give the guy credit.
