Robinson Cano’s BB% heading into Tuesday night’s game: 1.2%
That’s the 4th lowest % in the AL (behind Vlad the Impaler, Michael Young, and Coco Crisp).
He’s still slugging the ball, but it would be nice to see that go up. He experienced his best season in 2010, and coincidentally, had the highest walk rate of his career (8.2%). Taking a free bag every once and a while makes him even more dangerous.

Kinda like how I’d be a lot fatter if I took a free bag of donuts every so often.

From what I’ve ever seen of Cano, his whole career now, is he believes he can successfully hit and pitch from any spot. The problem is, last year he practically did. And so he now has no reason to think otherwise. Sure it’d be great for him to sit on a few per at bat, but he’s never going to. It’s just his style. Might as well deal with it and the .315 batting average and .330 OBP that comes with it.
My question is, would this point have even come up today if he wasn’t the last out with the tying run ISP? I mean, he did jack one today, after all. There are bigger holes in the lineup (lead off).

Plus, he only made the last out because of Ron Swoboda in rightfield.
Brett Gardner April 27, 2011 08:10
This stat proves that the MVP should be the guy who sees the most pitches. I lead our team in that category.
Also; strikeouts looking.

I’m going to steal your job honky.
Nick Swisher April 27, 2011 08:13
Yeah, he should learn to patiently wait for the perfect pitch, like I do. And I am *dangerous*
hello? April 27, 2011 08:24
where were you in 2009 or 2010. Both players had well above average wOBA each year. Different approaches, both weapons.

Some people who post here are brain-dead. God forbid nomaas makes a post about Cano’s walk rate. How dare they!!
Nick Social April 27, 2011 21:36
Their point is legit, and you’re right to back it up… but as long as Robbie keeps hitting like this, I could give a fuck if he ever walks again.

Is it sad that we are now happy when Jeter gets an infield single. that’s about the most we can expect now. No power, no walks.
Juan Acevedo April 27, 2011 15:10
The best part was when the scoreboard said “JETERIAN” after that hit in the 9th. So that’s what he’s known for now? Is harry fucking doyle now doing the scoreboard?
Steve Balboni's Bastard April 27, 2011 15:26
I’m more concerned with Swisher, Posada, Gardner, Jeter etc etc

What exactly is my role at RAB?
I like to write whimsy pieces, have no interesting analysis, and love making fun of the stupid non-regular trolls on my Twitter accout. I guess I like being the ultimate 125 lb Internet tough guy.
I guess the fat greek and fat polock keep me around to make some more donations to the RAB fund. (Dont tell Daddy).
Check out our new line of t-shirts, coffee cups, glasses, and caps. All certified kosher for your buying pleasure.

Ben’s writing sucks more than the weekend writers. And man o man is that saying something. It’s like eating a shitburger with cheese rather than a shitburger without.

Had he walked last night, Yankees get swept
Nomaasian Pseudoscientist April 28, 2011 22:39
Cano should be more like Nick Johnson. The art of breaking your wrist while staring at a called third strike is unappreciated.

Your now Robbie’s bitch, bitch.
