15 men left on base by Yankee hitters. 11 walks issued by Yankees pitchers. Both season-highs. That’s how you still lose when you outhit your opponent 12 to 4.

david robertson: 14 IP, 20 Ks, 13 hits, 10 BB
that last number is keeping him from being elite.
his walks are bizarre because theyre usually a result of him just completely losing control for a batter or two. they arent because he nibbles or because he has long at bats with lots of foul balls and close pitches at the corners. theyre 4 or 5 pitch at bats where almost every pitch is a half foot outside the zone.
normally, he can bear down and get a big out, often a strikeout. but when he does give up a hit, it might score a runner on that had no business getting on against a guy with that stuff, except robertson have him a free pass in the truest sense of the phrase.
also, thats at least the third time hes walked a guy to lead off the inning this year by my count. horrible. sure, buddy carlise did the same in the 10th and 11th, but hes supposed to suck.
Negrodamus May 12, 2011 00:49
Careful, you might get voted down for daring to question D-Rob’s coolness. Seriously though, fucker needs to stop walking people.
Brian May 12, 2011 01:05
Also- come on Girardi. Not using Joba in the 8th because he’s pitched 3/4 days when you have Robertson available is one thing. But the guy threw 9 fucking pitches the night before. Use him in the 10th before conceding the god damn game by putting Buddy Carlyle in.
Brian May 12, 2011 15:53
how dare u criticize Girardi. He has a binder!

The NoMaas curse?
Brian May 12, 2011 01:10
Brian- I have been posting using this name on Nomaas for longer than you. Use a last name initial or something. I don’t want people to think I’m the one making a shit joke like that. Very creative.
Brian May 12, 2011 01:21

Brian M. May 12, 2011 01:34
Reading my comment, I actually sound like a huge tool claiming dibs to the name. As an olive branch, I’ll use the last name initial.

Do I take a number AJ because I’m ready to eat.
Voomo Zanzibar May 12, 2011 03:13
I like how Gardner is asked to bunt 2-0 after a 4 pitch walk to start the inning. You really give up an out to a guy who cant throw a strike? Pretty sure Gardner is still capable of bunting 2-1.
Almost as bad as when Cervelli had to bunt 3-0 (this was last september) when he had reached base safely in 8 consecutive plate appearances.
Sometimes small ball is taken to an idiotic extreme.
David Robertson May 12, 2011 07:49
The funny thing is the fact that the night before you were licking my a$$ clean for getting out of that jam. Last night I come into a clean inning and blow the hold eventually leading to a loss. The 4th by the bullpen this season mind you. I love how you guys are killing Buddy Carlyse today meanwhile it was my fuck up that caused us to go into extras in the 1st place. Just because I got the BS doesn’t mean that Buddy should get the BS.
The Truth May 12, 2011 07:54
The inability to hit with runners in scoring position is getting old. Honestly this appears to be developing into a pattern as opposed to a slump. I still don’t get why Joba wasn’t used. Doesn’t spreadshhet Joe claim to track how many pitches each of his relivers has thrown? If that is the case Joba should have been given the nod over D-rob. Girardi should write a book overmanaging in six easy steps.
Sensitive RAB guy May 12, 2011 09:14
aren’t you supposed to be bitching about Gardner, Shogun?
The Truth May 12, 2011 10:02
Shouldn’t your mother have taken away your computer privleges, bubba?
Jay Destro's Penis May 12, 2011 15:56
Girardi is a legend. A young Casey Stengel. That binder has everything except using relivers right, when to and not to bunt and how to tell his team how to hit.
Home Runs May 12, 2011 08:29
The Yankees only way of scoring runs is by hitting the ball out of the park. Otherwise, when they don’t, their ability to manufacture runs or get base hits with RISP licks complete weiner.
27 Rings May 12, 2011 10:22
There is a reason a guy with a 93mph fastball and a wicked curve pitches the 6th innning. He’s not very good. D-Rob scares me everytime he comes in. No control. He should never pitch a big inning. Even the other day when he got the hold, he walked a guy and got to 3-2 on every batter. He’s a mop up man.
27 Rings May 12, 2011 10:23
Oh, and nobody on the team hits except for Granderson and Cano. Please bat Jeter last tonight. He’s terrible. Can’t even bunt.
John Sterling May 12, 2011 10:32
Oh, Curtis -you’re something sort of Grandish!
The Grandyman can…oh, the Grandyman can…
Curtis Granderson's Big Black Dick May 12, 2011 10:34

Well it could be worse, we could be the Red Sox. Knowing our luck they come in & sweep this weekend. Fuck no, we have to put these assholes to bed this weekend.
Brett Gardner May 12, 2011 11:49
Remember when I could steal bases?
Brian M. May 12, 2011 14:22
Gardner seems to be a fast guy who’s a bad baserunner. Even in previous years when he wasn’t getting thrown out at the 50% clip he has been this year, he still wasn’t stealing as often as a guy with his elite speed should have been and when he did steal it was often late in counts instead of earlier on in an at bat when it would be more useful (Flaherty points this out ad nauseum on the YES telecasts, but he’s right about it).
It’s frustrating to watch because while Gardner is a limited player, his shitty baserunning instincts are limiting his ability to take advantage of his one true strength. When he gets on late in a close game like last night, opposing fans should be feeling like how Yankee fans felt with Dave Roberts in 2004 (hate to bring it up): shit, this guy’s gonna steal and we’re gonna lose. Instead, it’s Yankees fans that are nervous that’s he’s gonna wait so long that it won’t matter or that he’ll get thrown out.
[Censored] May 12, 2011 15:07
I like Gardner, but watching him try to steal a base is scary right now.
Sensitive RAB guy May 12, 2011 15:52

D-Rob knows I keep my pimp hand strong. Suckas try to be blaming me for AJ’s bad year. I’ll get the last laugh by taking two wins away from him.

Gator’s bitches better be using jimmies.
Steve Balboni's Bastard May 12, 2011 15:48
This team has major hitting issues. How many ab’s do you give Posada as DH? 40 more? Can’t keep running out a DH with a 150 avg
The Truth May 12, 2011 16:05
I don’t know if it is major. I think the main issue now is that Alex has stopped hitting. As crazy as this sounds I think Girardi should flip Tex and Cano in the order. Yeah I know Granderson is left handed, but something needs to be done.
Andy Stankiewicz May 12, 2011 16:47
A man of Dave Robertson stature can only throw that hard if he has giant balls. He does, but unfortunately, that leads to a lot of walks.
