While it would have be nice for the Yankees to finish the sweep of the Mets on Sunday, the Bombers did win yet another series and remain 1.5 games ahead of America’s Team for the AL East lead. It’s worthy to note that David Robertson pitched another scoreless inning, and it’s about time we give him some major props for how he’s pitched in this season. D-Rob has been one of the best relievers in the game and has earned the right to pitch in the biggest spots — although knowing Girardi, he’ll probably get bumped when/if Rafael Soriano comes back. For now, let’s look at how awesome Robertson has been:
AL Reliever Ranks (min 30 IP):
ERA: 1.05 (1st)
xFIP: 2.33 (2nd)
K/9: 14.31 (1st)
K/BB: 2.65 (14th because of the walks)
Salary: $460,450
Let this serve notice to those who want big, flashy overpriced relievers.

Why aren’t he and CC All-Stars yet David Price and his 104 ERA+, Jose Valverde and Brandon League, two mediocre closers, are? Crack is a hell of a drug.

We Yankees fans don’t have room to bitch about all-star snubs because the undeserving Jeter, Cano, and Martin all made the team. It would have been nice to see CC and Robertson make the team but with every team needing to send a representative there wasn’t enough room for eight Yankees.

I wouldn’t say Martin and Cano were undeserving, although Zobrist probably should have started. Jeter has no business being on the team, but CC, Robertson and Gardner all belong there.

Maybe I focus on the Yankees too much but who would you have at second base over Cano?
Brian S. July 4, 2011 14:23
Cano was fifth in the AL in terms of second basemen WAR. Only Kendrick has hit better than him but Cano has been shaky defensively, with Kendrick, Zobrist, Pedroia, and Kinsler provicing more value to their teams. Cano was not a terrible choice by any means like Jeter and Martin, but there were better options.

How did Cano not deserve to make it? He’s first in AL 2B’s in HR’s and RBI’s. He’s also tied for 2nd for runs scored and 2nd in .avg – Get your shit straight, moron.

On the bright side at least Youkillis,Pedroia and Papelbum didn’t make it.

8th inning guy =/= fireman. Robertson was often used as a fireman before Soriano/Joba got hurt, and maybe he’ll return to that role when Soriano is back.

and holy shit, that writing on the ‘backdraft’ poster is ponderous.

We decided before the season that Raffy was going to be our 8th inning guy. So when he comes back, he’s the guy. When you make a decision on where a guy fits in on the ballclub, you don’t just change it because another guy proves he’s a lot better. We may send Robby to AAA so he can keep getting work in.
