I know it is the the trendy thing on this website to bash jeter, but seriously, what yankees fan is not excited about him getting 3000?! If it does not get you a little bit giddy the thought of the ovation he will get if he does it in NY, then you are not even a true fan of baseball, much less the yankees.

by even a cursory glance with very basic stats everyone should be clamoring to have him hit lower in the line up.
Is he still a first ballot HOF player who personified the last Yankees Dynasty? Yes but clear as day he ain’t that player anymore and there is no shame in that.
By bending to his ego & absurd contract demands his legacy is now being clouded. & to think we have 3 more years of this when it should have been a very sweet 2011 swan song for one of the 10 best to wear the pinstripes.

I disagree on the legacy clouded statement. First of all, they Yankees HAD to resign him, so he did have some leverage. Second of all, it is not like the team is strapped for cash, its not like they will not make that money back and then some especially in the next four games. I have no problem with the team keeping him around for three more years with no obvious replacement at short. I know nunez played ok the last two weeks, but that is a small sample size and he has some serious holes in his swing that hopefully Kevin Long can work out.
I do, however agree that after he gets 3000 he should be moved down in the line up. I am not convinced that gardner is our leadoff hitter either.

He will Opt out & he will get a raise by the Yankees. It’s not a big deal.
The yankees in turn will then raise the ticket prices and less people will be at the stadium with less pressure to preform. It’s literally a win-win!
