After rallying from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game, Mariano Rivera was crucified for our sins in the top of the 9th with a 2-run HR, and Curtis Granderson fell for the ol’ fake throw to third / pickoff at first gag to end the game.

Negrodamus August 9, 2011 23:56
That’s two dickpunch losses in a row. Way to blow, asswipes.
Daniel August 9, 2011 23:58
I would like to take a moment to remember one thing:
Please, despite all of the craziness (AJ Burnett giving up a huge double to a guy batting .180, Mariano throwing a 3-1 cutter that I could have taken out of the park and Granderson temporarily losing his mind)…
DO NOT FORGET JOE GIRARDI’S EPIC FAIL.
Seriously, he walked Maicer Izturis… he of the .713 OPS (with FIVE HOME RUNS) … intentionally. Izturis is the type of hitter that you get mad at a pitcher for walking… unintentionally. And Joe willingly walked him. As a form of strategy. To face an almost identical hitter, Peter Bourjos.
Who could have possibly been surprised that the night totally spiraled out of control from there? Not me, particularly given the fact that when Joe did the exact same thing a few months ago when Colon was on the mound against Toronto… things absolutely spiraled out of control.
For all of their shortcomings, this team still doesn’t deserve Girardi as the manager. Please, free them.
Fire this fucking moron.
Eduardo Nuñez August 10, 2011 00:04
i agree men all good thin happen is i was 2 -3 with walk meng be proud of young core Núñez!
Daniel August 10, 2011 00:27
Was it Joe Girardi or Maicer Izturis that down-voted me?
Secret Muslim August 10, 2011 08:44
3 down votes from the RAB tards because their site sucks and YES is about to dump them for being irrelevant and gay. One from Ritardi, and one from Jorge because he is pissed that his .230 average is not good enough after all he’s done for this team.
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 09:58
This is a good point. Isn’t intentionally walking a pitiful hitter just to set up the double play the very definition of overmanaging?
But I don’t think walking Izturis caused the game to “spiral out of control.” It was a stupid decision, but Bourjos can’t hit either and Burnett should have gotten him out.
Daniel August 10, 2011 11:50
It wasn’t to set up a double play. There was already two outs.
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 11:59
Thanks for pointing that out. I think I invented the double play scenario because I subconsciously wanted the IBB to be merely stupid rather than completely batshit insane.
Melky Cabrera August 16, 2011 22:07
I hate Joe! Send him to KC with me.
Juliow August 9, 2011 23:58
And what about Mariano…
Mike Francesser August 10, 2011 00:03
JERRY LEWIS IS AN AMERICAN ICON. HE RAISED 440 BILLION DOLLAHS FOR DAH MDA AND THEY JUST CUT HIM LIKE DAT ???
Jorge Posada August 10, 2011 00:04

Mariano River August 10, 2011 00:16
Jus thang god u know dat i can still do this.
Mo Rivera August 10, 2011 00:32
After I talk to the Red Sox to get the contract I want, I like to electricute animals. If I have time left, I get revered for entering games in which the Jankees have like a 95% of winning anyway!!!
It’s good to be called God by the RAB morons!!!

Frankie Cervelli August 10, 2011 00:34
Hey baby, what’s your sign?
Ramiro Pena August 10, 2011 00:36
You talkin’ to me ?
Pete C. August 10, 2011 05:19
How long have you two been married? Somebodies isn’t being completely honest with us.
Warner Wolf August 10, 2011 00:20
Why would Granderson be even thinking of running in that situation anyhow?
Did he think Posada was at the plate?
Michael Kay August 10, 2011 00:40
The count was 1-2 which makes Texiera a more defensive hitter so the likelyhood of a single becomes higher and Granderson was trying to get in position to score on a single.
Of course with all things said and done, unless you believe the fallacy of the predetermined outcome you can’t say Texiera would have hit a single had Granderson not been picked off.
A studpendously inexcusable play all around though.
You can put that on the right side.
Daniel August 10, 2011 00:54
Although the reference to it made me laugh rather loudly, I’m not entirely sure that your reference to the fallacy of the predetermined outcome made any sense.
The best thing about that stupid saying is that if you search for it on Google, almost every post mentions Michael Kay.
Warner Wolf August 10, 2011 02:02
It’s not imperative to run to tie on a single when Cano is batting behind Tex.
It’s a blunder. It happens.
This lost in on Mo. Bobby Abreu can’t be getting a FB down the middle in that situation.
Negrodamus August 10, 2011 13:46
Bobby Abreu’s corpse can get a FB down the middle at any point and pop it up. He has no power left. It’s just a tendency of our pitching to get lit up by the Reid Brignacs and Bobby Abreus of the world.
Plaxico Buress August 10, 2011 01:25
Whats funny to me is how gay this website is for mo rivera. He blows a huge one in boston and bam no nomaas post about it. He blows a big fat black one tonight and bam the post is about granderson…come on really? I love mo but gah the guy has blown some hugeeeeeee games lets not forget he essentially cost us 2 world series.
The Absolute Truth August 10, 2011 08:31
Next time make sure the gun goes off near your face. Mo essentially has won more games for us than lost including the 2003 ALCS, 1999 World Series & 2009 World Series in case you forgot. This loss goes on Girardi. Why the hell are you walking the immortal Maicer Izturis? You walk him, but pitch to Pedroia on Sunday night? And you are blaming Rivera? Granderson’s boner aside this team at least showed some fight in coming back from 4-1. Too many times this season they have stayed down for the count after an inning like that.
Buster Brown August 10, 2011 11:14
Yeah, he “won” those games. He comes in when the Yankees are already winning, yet he “won” those games.
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 10:07
Perhaps NoMaas is “gay” for Rivera because they understand even the best closer of all time is capable of blowing saves and losing games every now and then. And that since Rivera has appeared in 94 PLAYOFF GAMES (in which he has a 0.71 ERA) it really isn’t fair to jump on him for blowing a small handful of those games.
Also, how did he “cost us 2 world series”? Yes, he blew the save in 2001, but he didn’t “cost us” the series. I don’t know what other World Series you could be talking about.
Plaxico Buress healthy foot August 10, 2011 18:50
im sorry but i count the 2004 ALCS game 4 as him losing us a world series. He doesnt blow that game Yankees beat the cardinals in 4 in the WS.And of course 2001. Hes won some cute little games for us and hes also lost us 2 world series titles thats the way I look at it.
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 12:11
Also, you realize this is the same site that argued Rivera wasn’t worth the huge contracts he has demanded?
Plaxico's Burros August 10, 2011 13:44
Mariano has never shot himself in the leg, indoors.
Negrodamus August 10, 2011 13:48
Maybe NoMaas is a female? Then it’s hetero for Mo?
My9 Sound Engineer August 10, 2011 08:20
What the fuck is that beeping the entire game?
Mark Teixeira August 10, 2011 09:19
It’s cool – I was getting ready to strike out anyway.
Dilip Hughes August 10, 2011 09:23
MIA – MARK TEIXEIRA
27 Rings August 10, 2011 10:37
Mo makes mistakes sometimes, but he always comes back strong. AJ always makes mistakes and never comes back strong. It’s funny to me how people can say Jeter is over rated when this guy (AJ) is the 6th best pitcher on the team and makes more than almost everybody. This loss is on AJ. He has no heart.
Eduardo Nuñez August 10, 2011 11:21
jeter is no overrated meng he legen is just hes old and i am future meng Núñez time to shine baby!
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 11:53
AJ has nothing to do with Jeter. Jeter is overrated because the sports media treats him like he is a saint with no flaws whatsoever. Everyone recognizes AJ for what he is: an overpaid mediocrity. No one is campaigning for AJ to take starts from Nova or Hughes.
Nikoli August 10, 2011 11:33
I blame AJ’s face.
Jose Reyes August 10, 2011 11:33
I’m getting Carl Crawford money. Just saying.
Eduardo Nuñez August 10, 2011 13:25
if u getz crawford money thenz i will get derek jeter money in future cos i don get hert like u
Mel Gibson August 10, 2011 13:43
You ain’t getting shit. Go back to Mexico!
Alex August 10, 2011 11:34
Who’s up for a game of cards?
Joe August 10, 2011 11:34
Anyone seen my binder?
Melky August 10, 2011 11:35
I likez de womenz.
Joe Torre August 10, 2011 11:38
I was a better bullpen manager than this asshole.
Tanyon Sturtze August 10, 2011 11:39
WTF?
Scott Proctor August 10, 2011 12:45
Double WTF!?!?!
Tom Gordon August 10, 2011 13:49
My ass you were, you old iTalian asshole.
Pete C. August 10, 2011 19:43
Get your slurs right boy. It’s spelled eyetalian.
Paul Quantril August 10, 2011 22:15
You finished off what was left of my arm Torre cuz you brought me in every fucking night to throw 30 pitches! Fuck off!
Jeff Nelson August 10, 2011 22:16
He did the same to me Paul, yet people think he was a good manager! Zimmer managed this team\, notice after he left arms kept going down and so did us in the playoffs! At least we weren’t Scott Proctor, that kid inherited him the year after he got away from Captain MRI Torre himself!
Mariano Rivera August 10, 2011 22:17
Torre took 5 years off my career cuz the dick kept bringing me in for 6 out saves..Thanks asswipe!
Rich Mahogany August 10, 2011 11:57
You are more senile than ever. The Yankees have always had a great pen under Girardi and this year is no exception – which is no small achievement considering the problems with Joba, Soriano and Feliciano. Meanwhile, your pen management actually cost us games and entire playoff series.
AJ August 10, 2011 11:48
You all are just jealous! I got looks, I own 85 cars, I got tattoos and this bad ass haircut AND A-Rod lets me shaves his balls. I’ve got it all!
This August 10, 2011 12:40
For your sake, I just hope you have a disposable razor.
IC Wang August 10, 2011 14:31
Looks? Next you will trying to pass yourself off as a reliable force in the rotation. Your father was a manatee and your mother the Red Man model.
Jason Giambi August 10, 2011 13:40
Mark is starting to turn into me! No doubt about it LOL!
Negrodamus August 10, 2011 13:51
You walked more.
Plaxico's Burros August 10, 2011 14:00
Mark was never given a chance.
Brian S. August 10, 2011 14:45
Giambi was a better offensive player than Teixeira is now.
