With a fully rested Mariano Rivera and knowing that allowing a run causes an immediate loss, it only makes sense for Girardi to call for Aaron Laffey and Luis Ayala. After all, reserving the greatest relief pitcher of all-time for a save that never happened makes much more sense than when the game is actually on the line.
And naturally, no MSM writer will question his moves until he’s been gone from the Yankees for four years. How provocative!
Meanwhile, the Red Sox continue to lose and the Yankees are achieving no additional separation.

Management skills.

At this rate he definitely doesn’t want to win the division, but it seems like the rest of baseball will be damned if they let the Sux take first in the East, which is refreshing.
Girardi in the Denver Bathhouse September 12, 2011 12:40
I am the manager. This means I manage the games.
rip this September 10, 2011 10:22
girardi is an issue…but a bigger issue is A Rod. He looks cooked. The body has broken down one too many times and the swings look pathetic. If he’s the cleanup hitter we got problems.
BNBG September 10, 2011 10:51
I totally agree. When he starts his at-bats, you just expect him to be late in every single pitch.
eric September 10, 2011 10:36
Tex is still a left handed mess and Grandy has not been an MVP for two weeks.
The Jinx September 11, 2011 03:29
that’s my fault. I traded for him 2 weeks ago in my fantasy league. I’ve also had tex since just before the all-star break.
Haven’t had arod though, so you can’t blame that on me.

Only Jeff Weaver instead of Mariano Rivera on Game 5 of the 2003 World Series beats this!
Mr I flush the toilet while im taking a dump at work so noone listens to my farts September 10, 2011 11:12
so they bring in MO, and he keeps the game tied and then what do we bitch about when some scrub reliever gives up the lead in the later innings?
Negrodamus September 10, 2011 13:22
Precisely. In order to win, you also have to eventually score.
Kevin S. September 10, 2011 20:58
And using your best relievers gives your team more opportunities to score.
Dipshits.
Negrodamus September 11, 2011 00:06
Using your best relievers decreases the chances of the other team scoring. It has no “HE WILLED HIS TEAM TO VICTORY” effect on the offense, making it magically be able to get the fucking ball out of the infield.
BartonBickle September 10, 2011 11:31
I agree with this point 100%.
At the same time, this is from the same people who said that they didn’t care about Hughes/Burnett because the playoffs were already a lock.
What is the barometer for making you care about one in-season issue over another?
no. September 11, 2011 21:13
Misusing the relievers isn’t something that only hurts you in the regular season, so it isn’t an ‘in-season issue’. Letting Hughes start in place of Burnett for the rest of this season will have an affect the outcome of 2, maybe 3 games? It also becomes moot when the playoffs begin.
BartonBickle September 10, 2011 11:32
Also: A-Rod doesn’t look “cooked” at all. Looks like he needs to play often so he can get his rhythm and timing back, but he doesn’t look hurt or over-matched.
Joe Torre September 10, 2011 11:51
Where’s Proctor?
Eduardo Núñez September 10, 2011 11:55

Pete C. September 10, 2011 12:00
This thing about not using Mo in the ninth in an away game is a carry over from Torre. Put the guy in there, he gives you the best chance at holding anyone, so your OFFENCE can possibly score some runs. And give a “lesser” reliever a possible cushion.
Idiot Joe September 10, 2011 12:15
That would make too much sense.
He is the worst! What was the point of putting in “laughable” to pitch?
I swear he will be the reason the Yanks lose in the first round..he’ll put in Boone Logan to face a lefty like Hamilton and Josh will hit a huge bases clearing double to blow the game in the 6th or seventh and the camera will show Joe all shocked like it didnt happen all year.
He is gonna start “resting” guys now too..Most likely blowing our chance to win the east and go on the road as a wild card..just like last year.
Bring up the lefty “B” and let him strike lefties out..or is he on an innings limit to save his arm? Kinda like how that worked out for Joba and Phil…i’d write more but i have to rest my fingers in case i have to write more tomorrow
Herm Edwards September 15, 2011 11:18
You play to win the game!
Brandon September 10, 2011 12:14
Two days in a row he’s done this.
The Offense September 10, 2011 12:25
That’s a relief. I thought you guys would focus on me finally. I’ll just keep napping until October. Maybe.
Negrodamus September 10, 2011 13:22
Fuck you. Three days in a row you shit the bed.
Hindsight September 10, 2011 13:25
I’m 20/20!
The Truth September 10, 2011 13:33
Sorry, but this team looks fried. Texas & Detroit look stronger than both us & the Sox. You see they think it’s okay to socre runs. Someone should tell that to these assholes. Please don’t feed me stats on this team, too many times average pitchers have shut them down. The only one that took any good swings last night was Montero. And can someone plrase tell Joe that Nunez & Pens suck ass.
Eduardo Núñez September 11, 2011 11:03
YOR MOM SOCK ASS MOTHERFOCKER, IMZ SORRIE DIS TEAM IS NO DOMINANTZ LIKE 1998 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM THATN NEVER LOST A GAME IN SEPTEMBER ANZ WON IT ALL
OH WEIT DEY SOCKED IN SEPTEMBER? OMG FOCK U FOR GETTIN UR PANTIES WET WIT DOOMSDAY FRUSTRATION, GO SIT ON ICESCREAM SO DA PAIN OF UR HEMORROIDS FEEL BETER
DormantUlcer September 10, 2011 13:33
There’s an argument for both sides.
Mo keeps the game tied for the offense to potentially win it.
Mo can’t win it, only keep it tied, and if the offense doesn’t get a lead, Mo only delayed an inevitable defeat.
Personally, I hate the loss, but these other guys need to get out there and prove they can get their shit together and go one entire inning without allowing a run. The real problem I have is two days ago with the lead against Baltimore in the 8th, going to asshole Soriano instead of Robertson. You can’t save your key guys cuz you MIGHT need them another game, cuz you MIGHT NOT need them after all.
What Everyone Is Thinking September 10, 2011 14:05
The Eduardo Nunez schtick really isn’t funny, and to be honest, never fucking was.

You pervert!
DormantUlcer September 10, 2011 22:09
Maybe Girardi is managing to help the Angels overtake Texas, so Texas will miss the postseason, and he won’t be second-guessed again about intentionally walking half the team if New York plays them.
Jay Destro's Weenie September 14, 2011 09:59

What is the opposite of 3 grand slams in a game? I think we’ve been witnessing it.
Joe Torre September 11, 2011 20:50
Exactly…. I would’ve sent Mo out there for 2 innings. If we’re still tied you’ve always got Proctor who can easily go another 6.
Alex Rodriguez September 13, 2011 14:13
Do you realize you’ve paid me $2 million per HR this year?
