Pretty similar, right?
And now for the reveal…
Pitcher A is John Danks, the subject of many Yankee fan orgies so far this offseason. Pitcher B is Edwin Jackson, the subject of NoMaas orgies.
Why give up a player of value for Danks, when you can get Jackson for just money?

here is a reason…2 years younger and left handed…not to mention will not require us to over pay in dollars and years.

Assuming Ken Williams isn’t asking the moon for Danks, that is.
Testicles November 17, 2011 01:07
The same argument could be made that trading away valuable prospects for just one year of Danks wouldn’t be wise.
Curved Slightly November 17, 2011 09:28
You don’t think the Yankees wouldn’t be smart enough to negotiate an extension with Danks?
RA November 17, 2011 09:38
Regardless of whether or not they would negotiate an extension with Danks, the price paid in prospects should not reflect the possibility that the Yankees sign him to a longer deal. You assume you will receive one year of service from Danks and that is the service that you are trading for.
Curved Slightly November 17, 2011 17:41
Or you can do what they did with Randy Johnson/Sox with Schilling and have a negotiating window before the trade goes through. If he doesn’t agree, then either continue throughout the season or don’t do the trade at all.
Kenny Williams track record tells us Danks shouldn’t be that hard to acquire. I wouldn’t cry of Hughes was the center piece of a package for Danks.

Let’s look at some retard stats here for a second. You know… the one you guys think are outdated and therefore use sabremetrics to feel superior while simultaneously making yourselves look like you have the baseball IQ of a pineapple?
Danks: 8.8 H/9 1.1 HR/9 2.9 BB/9 7.0 K/9 2.38 K:BB 1.304 WHIP
Jackson: 9.6 H/9 1.0 HR/9 3.7 BB/9 6.7 K/9 1.82 K:BB 1.476 WHIP
I don’t think anyone needs some fancy, made up, bullshit, basement GM, never touched a vagina in your life stats to see that the Yankees would be better suited lighting money on fire than giving a contract to Edwin Jackson. At least with John Danks, we wouldn’t have to worry from start to start if Danks is going to implode on the mound.
Edwin Jackson, Nova/Noesi for Greinke, saying no to signing CJ Wilson and moving the fences back so Brett Gardner can run down fly balls. What an offseason so far. Please inject Clorox into your jugular so Yankee fans won’t be subjected to your stupidity anymore.
Uhm November 17, 2011 00:37
Why are you using Jackson’s career stats? He is a comepletely different pitcher the last three years than when he was 23 on a terrible Rays team. The last three years Jackson has been just as good as John Danks as. The stats only look made up to you because you are too stupid to understand them.
Curved Slightly November 17, 2011 08:33
Oh don’t worry. I fully understand how to interpret these statistics. I think the stats are merely a way of trying to justify a player’s mediocre or even bad seasons and just attributing it to “bad luck.” I’m sure you have some fancy stats to show Dunn and Lackey’s seasons weren’t as bad as they appear on paper. Again… It’s basement GMs with nothing better to do with their time who want to feel superior to other baseball nerds.
I’m using Jackson’s career stats because he’s been a less than impressive player his entire career. Three decent seasons aren’t able to make up for the fact that he’s been mediocre for most of his career. Probably a big reason he’s been bounced from team to team throughout his career. You can toss around all these fancy stats if you want, but there’s no reason to believe that he’ll continue to improve. We already have one AJ Burnett in the rotation. No need for another.
I’d rather trade for Danks and sign him to an extension if I had to choose one of these guys. In an ideal world neither of these guys are in pinstripes for 2012.
Uhm November 17, 2011 15:43
I disagree but I apologize for calling you stupid.

If Kenny Williams becomes Cashman’s bitch again, who cares?
logic November 17, 2011 00:10
Aren’t Danks’ numbers from the AL, while Jackson’s numbers from the NL? That’s not similiar.
Uhm November 17, 2011 00:38
Jackson has actually been mediocre in the NL. In 2009 with Detroit and the last two years with Chicago he has been fantastic in the AL. I don’t know why, because you would think that he would do better in the NL where you get a free out three times a game.
It's ok to learn November 17, 2011 08:46
@logic – xFIP is league-adjusted.
David Cone November 18, 2011 14:38
Did you say xFIP??? You da man!!!
Reality November 17, 2011 08:44
I think it would be important to point out that Danks had one of the worst years of his career last year due to bad luck. That skews his 3 year average. Also he is 2 years younger.
Black Amazon woman November 17, 2011 10:07
Bad luck =/= BABIP
It's ok to learn November 17, 2011 10:31
Danks is 2 years younger, yes. But Jackson is only 28. Both pitchers are young.
Dash November 17, 2011 16:15
Why has Jackson been the most traded player in the league since he was with TB? Any clues? Is he a serial cock-clocker? Bad Hygiene? Dog Shit Breath? What could it be?

Darvish, Garcia, Buerhle, and even Bedard if it’s a low-risk contract. Go highrisk/highreward on a pure-money deal with a potential #1 (Yu), then play the diamond-in-the-trash game they did so well with in 2011, to expand the options to fill out the order.

“The Yankees like John Danks and the White Sox like many Yankees prospects, particularly Austin Romine. However, Danks is a free agent after 2012 and the Yankees are reluctant to over-spend on a pitcher they’ll have for just one year”
Shit… if they want Romine as a center piece, go for it. Then sign Danks to an extension.
John Dansks'Agent November 19, 2011 20:10
My man is 26, left handed, entering his career years, and the centerpiece of the packag eto acquire him is Austin Romine? Hello? Have you seen Austin Romine hit? His minor league stats don’t exactly cry out Hall of Fame.. And despite his rep as a good defensive catcher, he reoeatedly double clutches on stolen base attempts. (I suppose a repeat double clutch is four clutches. Whatever) Another classic Ken Williams selling while the market is low on a player. Snap him up Yanks. I am confident we can work a multi year deal.
