Pineda is the sexy name here and people get caught up in the unknown of of a young guy’s ceiling (while too often losing track of his more humble median projection). But, this Kuroda signing is really fabulous. Over the past 3 years, Kuroda has been the 20th best pitcher by xFIP (3.51). He’s two spots behind CC Sabathia, and one ahead of the Red Sox nominal ace Josh Beckett.
Add on a quarter of a run for the move to the AL East (just a guess there) and knock off another little bit for getting a year older, and he’s still a top-50 pitcher. In other words, the Yankees got a solid 2-3 starter yesterday — for a very fair price and only committed to one season. Fantastic signing.

But Who's Gonna DH? January 14, 2012 18:11
The Cop-Out Move: Carlos Pena for 1 yr, regain property, bore the shit out of everyone with K’s and occasional moon shot with no one on base.
The Nostalgic Move: Johnny Damon for 2 years, get his 277 hits in a comfortable environment, still a gamer, good baserunner, knock right handers into short porch, Andruw bats against lefties.
The Idiot Person on Facebook That Doesnt Understand How Baseball Works Move: Prince Fielder.
The Greedy Yankee Fan Move: Slide Alex to DH now, grab David Wright.
The Controversial Move: Jorge Vasquez, some will cry Juan Miranda, others will see a younger cheaper Carlos Pena, but all will give him a hard time with all those K’s.
The Not A Snowball’s Chance Move: Manny Ramirez.

I agree this could be a good signing. I think he’s going to have a great year.

So what’s my nickname going to be? Michael Pinata after my flyball tendencies kick my ass in Yankee Stadium? Or Michael Pingayda because I like to suck men off.
Mike Asxia January 15, 2012 19:24
Dibs on the second nickname

One thing to take note of in regard to Kuroda — and this could simply be an aberration — is that his GO/AO dropped significantly from his career norms last season. He posted a GO/AO around the 1.50 mark in each of his first three seasons. Last season it was 1.05. He also gave up nearly double the amount of homeruns (24) he has given up in a typical season (13.33). Add the Yankee Stadium launching pad to the mix, and, well, let’s just hope those numbers are a fluke.

Kuroda is vastly under rated. With better run support he would have a 20 game winner last year. Great signing by Yanks.
Joe Páwlikowski January 17, 2012 14:55
Kuroda means more asians at the stadium. Which means more blow jobs given out by me. Find me in the grandstand bathroom. Stall 3 boys

Kuroda is a great player but these one year deals are pointless. He is a proven player. This DH thing needs to get solved quickly. I think Vlad Guerrero is the best option. No way Damon, Dunn, Manny or Thome could fit well with the Yankees.
