6/30/11 — Yanks Senior VP Mark Newman speaks with NoMaas:
SJK: How do you view Romine with Montero blocking him?
MN: Romine will be a starting major league catcher. I really believe that. I wouldn’t say Montero is blocking him. Our manager went from Double-A to the big leagues as a catcher. We just don’t want them to play in the same place. Romine should be in Triple-A.

Honestly, is a .750 OPS from a catcher for a few years bad? Besides, he’s only taking up space until Sanchez comes along. Not the end of the world.
Bud's Poolboy January 15, 2012 23:14
We’ve already seen the Yankees can thrive with that sort of production out of their catcher if that catcher can also provide solid defensive value. I loved what Russell Martin did for the Yankees in 2011, if Romine just replicates that I’d be giddy.
Bud January 16, 2012 02:44
You’re fired.
Jeffrey Loria January 16, 2012 11:10
This is the sort of bold decisive leadership we’ve come to expect from you, Bud.
I think the Yankees need to send me more money.
Dickwad Magnifico January 21, 2012 14:25
That’s right douchebag. Sure did “thrive” against the Tigers last year.
Romine’s only good on salads.
They need to bring the lumber when it counts or ship ‘em out fast. Plain and simple.
Small Sample Size January 16, 2012 10:48
Catcher with a min of 400 PAs would put a 750 OPS right in the middle of the pack
in front of russell martin and behind wilson ramos
Pineda January 15, 2012 23:09
Sanchez, Gary
Chris January 15, 2012 23:15
Dirty Sanchez is the catcher of the future. Romine lettuce is the post Russ Martin stop gap and either trade bait after Sanchez is ready or the backup. Frank Cervelli will start only for Team Italy in WBC 2013
Mike Asxia January 17, 2012 14:44
I am the best catcher of dirty sanchezes!!
Michael Kay January 18, 2012 07:56
Is Romine lettuce a condiment???
Ben Kabuk January 15, 2012 23:21
I only post late night with meaningless crap that’s irrelevant to whatever is currently taking place in the world of the Yankees. On tap tonight, why the Yankees should re-sign Damon and sign Oswalt. Damon’s interviews are television gold and his desire to win is greater than my desire to loose my virginity. Oswalt is better than Kuroda. That is all. To bring clarity to my earlier virginity statement: loose my virginity to a women. Outside of the gay plural marriage with my man-lovers over at RAB, I’ve never tasted a pink taco…ever. I’ve blown three MLB beat writers and I jerk off to Hazel Mae at least once a day…okay I really squeeze out DNA to Mitch Williams but DON’T tell Mike, he’s the jealous type! My dad needs to use his Mac now, I’ll be back later…
Chad Jennings January 17, 2012 15:07
What content did you steal from me this week?
Gary Sanchez January 15, 2012 23:27
Hi, my name is Gary Sanchez. Ever heard of me?
Defense January 16, 2012 02:42
Have you ever heard of ME? And you all thought Montero wouldn’t stick at catcher, this guy just had like 25 passed balls this last season.
Rick Santorum January 16, 2012 13:43
In bed.
Brett Pedroia January 16, 2012 21:51
Pfft…you should see the how many balls I passed this week alone!
Brett Pedroia January 16, 2012 09:32
You’re the young one, right? mmmmmmmmmm
i am the inferno January 15, 2012 23:32
its not romine, its not gary sanchez who will end up in a corner OF, money I bet its JR Murphy , romine as back up
Brandon January 15, 2012 23:58
I’m calling it: breakout season at AAA for Romine earns him a spot on the 25 man roster, possible usurping of the starter’s spot at the end of the year
Austin Romine January 16, 2012 00:13
I had a 103 wRC+ my second time through AA and you think I can be the catcher of the future? Might as well pick up Jeff Mathis.
Matzo January 17, 2012 15:08
Don’t give them any ideas
Francisco Cervelli January 16, 2012 01:09
Get in line, scrub! *FISTPUMP*
Tim Tebow January 16, 2012 02:42
What about me? I may need a new job soon.
Mike Piazza January 16, 2012 03:50
I’ve got (blow) job for you!
news conference January 16, 2012 05:21
You used me.
Bastard.
The NFL sucks dick, but the Giants are great. January 16, 2012 05:36
Totally off topic, but how ’bout those New York football Giants?
The NFL did everything they could to get Green Bay back in the SB. Awesome calls by the ref, did anyone see the graphic for that ref; 17 years experience as an official and only his 11th playoff game. Way to go NFL, nothing like putting a quality officiating crew out for every play-off game.
Brandon January 16, 2012 10:48
Manning is a retard.
Pete C. January 16, 2012 12:09
Well, he does come from New Orleans.
Down there he’s considered brilliant.
Malcolm January 16, 2012 12:10
What’s the matter baby, you a Jets fan?
Nick Social January 16, 2012 15:35
He’s a retard with a Superbowl ring.
Brandon January 16, 2012 15:54
Yes.
Pete C. January 16, 2012 17:08
Eli can certainly be a retard.
I wish Coughlin would bench him when they play the Vikes.
When he gets on a roll like now though, he’s just unconscious.
Until the short bus pulls up.
Ki m Last January 17, 2012 15:09
Lumps. Giants lumps
Mike Napoli January 16, 2012 07:16
What about me, bitches?
cervelli January 16, 2012 09:32
he sucks just like me, but retardi loves those no offense catchers who pump fists so Romine and me will be making out for years to come hahahahha.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia January 16, 2012 11:29
So the Rico Suave is gone? Score!
Vicente Padilla January 16, 2012 21:53
Hola Jarrod! Can’t wait till we are battery mates!
Hannah Ehrlich January 16, 2012 13:21
IT WAS THE BEST of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of Cashman’s wisdom, it was the age of Cashman’s foolishness, it was the epoch of belief in the pitching stud of the future, it was the epoch of incredulity at the trading of brilliant prospects, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring training of hope, it was the Hot Stove League of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to the World Championship, we were all going direct the other way.
Please help me.
Sigmund January 16, 2012 17:09
I fear you’re beyond help.
Joe Páwlikowski January 17, 2012 15:11
I’d help you if you had a penis.

No way. Sign Varitek. His intangibles are beautiful. If only science people could figure out how to distill his leadership, grit, and ability to grind it out. World peace is only attainable thru a combination of Varitek’s urine, semen, and feces.
Newt Gingrich January 16, 2012 22:28
You took the words right out of my mouth. Urine, semen and feces. Right out of my mouth.
27rings January 16, 2012 20:27
I love Matsui, but don’t want any cripples clogging up the base paths. No Damon, no Guerrero, no Posada. Give me A-Rod and put Nunez at 3rd or something like that.
Osama bin Laden January 16, 2012 21:56
I’m still dead.
Joe Páwlikowski January 17, 2012 15:12
Always, always make sure a john pays you before you suck him off. Words of wisdom from Joe Pawl.
FromThisSeat.com January 24, 2012 03:45
Why couldn’t the Yankees just raise the payroll like they had planned and sought out a prospect like Edwin Jackson or Oswalt? Montero was the future at catcher, the next Posada, only better.
