Michael Pineda will open the season on the disabled list after an MRI revealed tendinitis in his right shoulder. Pineda experienced tightness and soreness in the back of the shoulder during his start Friday night, prompting the test Saturday morning.

People are talking about Pineda being under control for the next 5 years or so… ***I’m going to venture a guess that by 2013 Pineda is going to have a shoulder injury and be a nonfactor.*** Judging by his drop in velocity at the end of last season, no velocity this spring and Seattle’s willingness to trade their “young stud” who could slot in behind Felix.
I wonder if Cashman can call Seattle and get a do-over on this.
Stupid moron March 31, 2012 16:15
Oh wise, great soothsayer… lend us more of your powers of foresight. Will Banuelos become a major league pitcher? Will Sanchez develop into the great catcher the Yankees hope? Will A-Rod date a tranny this season?
Spare some of your valuable brainpower so we can better lead our own lives and maybe- just maybe- Brian Cashman will read your comments.
Thank you for your consideration.
Curved Slightly March 31, 2012 17:31
Banuelos: Yes
Sanchez: Too early to tell
A-Rod: Definitely.
Normally I charge $4.99 a minute for these services on my hotline, but I’ll give you a freebie this time. Just do us a favor and promise to light yourself on fire before Easter.

Only if Pineda’s career is over because of arm issues…. but you already know the answer to that.
Who's stupid now? April 1, 2012 01:23
Kinda funny that the post was written by none other than “stupid moron” himself.. lmao.
Stupid moron April 1, 2012 15:13
The problem is that if I tried to use only my own brainpower, I wouldn’t be able to lead a fulfilled life. I must rely on the guidance of internet blog posters like “Curved Slightly” who let me know what decision to make (which pant leg to put on first, what to eat for breakfast, what color silk panties to wear, etc.)
Obviously this “Curved Slightly” fellow and other smug internet blog contributors of the same ilk have not been providing Mr. Cashman et al with their clairvoyant commentary, otherwise we wouldn’t find ourselves with a young pitcher with an unknown injury.
Please, Mr. Curved Slightly (or any other internet foreteller), what type of injury do you see for Mr. Pineda? Torn Labrum? Torn Rotator Cuff? Sandy Vagina? Atychiphobia in conjunction with Montero-itis?
Curved Slightly April 1, 2012 23:55
It’s not clairvoyance as you claim, but rather common fucking sense. Instead of living in your dream world where Pineda is going to be the next Nolan Ryan, why don’t you put the pieces of the puzzle together. Let me show you how I came to my conclusion…
1. Pineda had a loss in velocity post-all star break last year.
2. Pineda came into camp overweight and still saw a drastic loss in velocity
3. Throughout history, the mysterious loss of a pitcher’s velocity is attributed to a shoulder injury.
Therefore, we can conclude that there’s a good chance Pineda had a shoulder injury. Common… fucking… sense.
I can’t predict what the exact nature of his shoulder injury will be. Don’t particularly care if it’s a labrum or rotator cuff.
Now, I’m not a doctor but I am going to diagnose you with terminal Cranialrectalosis. This is commonly known as “head in ass” disease. Judging by your posts here, your head is jammed so far up your ass you can taste your shitty Walmart hair gel.
I’m also going to prescribe you a corn meal douche. It’s good for clearing out the sand in the clam between your legs. If there’s any other questions or concerns I’m here to help.
You are faggot, hear you lisp.
Stupid moron April 2, 2012 02:22
I don’t really care one way or the other about your reasoning on Pineda.
I really just think it’s sad that in your first post you smugly quoted yourself from nine days ago and told “you fuckers” that you were right and, they (NoMaas, I assume) were wrong. You must be very proud of that statement unique, individual. But what do I know- I’m just a stupid moron.
Curved Slightly April 3, 2012 10:48
Dude, if you don’t like arrogance or people being smug, I suggest you find another blog. This NoMaas. If you can’t hang around and dish out/take a bunch of shit like everyone here (including the writers), then this probably isn’t the place for you.
There’s plenty of ideas that I don’t agree with from the writers, but they have a good sense of humor and can give you shit back. Much respect to SJK and the gang.
If you want a place that’s the opposite of here (see: boring, no fun allowed), then dry your eyes, have your mommy help you blow your nose and mosey on over to NYYFans. That may be more up to your speed and your feelings probably won’t get hurt.
And yes… you are a stupid moron.

OVER REACTING ASSHOLES !!!!
This trade was about the future man. Its not about 2012. Who cares if Pineda starts 2012 in AAA ???
It was all about having a cost effective pitcher under team control for years to come !
You childish fans are obsessed with Montero and his 4 home runs last year.

The Brian Cashman Jinx trading for pitchers continues!
R2-D2 March 31, 2012 19:55
So let’s see Cashman had a known commodity in Montero has plenty of young pitching both ready now and some even better on the way but decided to go with the sparkly thing behind door number 2 that was already burning out the second half of the year. What happened to all the C. R. E. A. M posts?
Oh shit he's on the 15 day DL April 1, 2012 00:12
Welp, career over
Jonathan Mayo April 1, 2012 01:23
He won’t pitch this year
You don't have to be Nostradamus April 1, 2012 00:27
You don’t trade an everyday player for a pitching prospect.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
Noesi wins more games this year than Pineda.
Noesi wins more games in his career than Pineda.
It was a risky and stupid trade when it was made, and nothing that has happened since the trade makes it any less stupid and risky.
Seriously, what has Brian Cashman done to merit keeping his job? One trade. Granderson.
His track record on pitching is abysmal. Pavano, Wright, Igawa,AJ Burnett, the no names for Sheffield, Feliciano, mike Myers– where is the scouting in all of this? How is it that the Yankees don’t have a left handed reliever who can get lefties out? Boone Logan is all we have to show for a payroll of over %200 million. Oh, bad break on Cabral? CABRAL? Are you kidding me?
Throw the bum out. A trained monkey could have thrown money at Sabathia. A trained monkey did throw money at Burnett. A trained monkey gave away Jesus Montero. It’s not an overreaction when you have an entire second half of ineffectiveness to call into question the validity of a trade.
Duh April 2, 2012 09:04
So, let me make sure I understand this … Cashman sits in a room, by himself, and throws darts at names on the wall? There’s nobody else involved? No scouts? No other front office personnel? Really?
So, just to be clear, you wouldn’t trade an everyday player, who is supposed to be a catcher but can’t actually, you know, CATCH … and so at 22 years old the only position he can actually play is DH … but you would hold on to that player instead of moving him for a high-end pitching prospect? Let’s not forget that you have very little room for an every day DH on your team, but we’ll just hang on to him anyway, because he had a good rookie season?
The trade was good, regardless of the result. Pineda will be fine. Next season. Big deal. Solves the problem of what to do with the rest of these guys. It’s nothing. Get over it.
Chaz Bono April 2, 2012 11:48

BEXY April 2, 2012 12:45
I look like you. But uglier.
You don't have to be Nostradamus April 2, 2012 22:36
“The trade was good, regardless of the result”
Disagree. The result of the trade determines whether or not it is a good trade. And I might be wrong about this, but doesn’t the American League have a very specific rule that allows you to have a hitter who doesn’t play a position hit in your lineup for a pitcher? Do his hits, home runs, runs batted in and runs scored, count less than the other hitters in the line up that play positions?
Is the problem that Montero’s not 40 years old, so he shouldn’t be allowed to contribute more than a Raul Ibanez, or an Andrew Jones? There is always room on a team for a hitter who can hit, particularly in the American League, which uses the DESIGNATED HITTER. You cannot be serious that the Yankees don’t have room on their team for a hitter who can actually hit because we have to make room for players like Ibanez and Jones. I hope Michael Pineda goes on to have a Hall of Fame career, but if you are going to try to predict the future, you will have more success in the long run handicapping hitters than pitchers. Which is why it is axiomatic that you don’t trade young potentially great hitters for young potentially great pitchers. Because pitchers, like Kerry Wood, like Mark Prior, like Dontrelle Willis, like Joba Chamberlain, nearly every hard thrower, sooner or later, hurt their arms. Like Michael Pineda.
Common Sense April 3, 2012 02:28
You forgot that Cashman stole Nick Swisher from the Chicago White Sox for Wilson Betemit and 2? Unknown minor league pitchers who never/ havent made a major league roster yet. That was potentially the best deal of his tenure considering Swishers production outside of any postseason series/game.

Ad hominem attacks are the last resort for a person who doesn’t have a real argument. Cashman hasn’t demonstrated much by way of being smart lately, and he is fair game for comment,. This is what this web site is for. Comment. Doesn’t make us smarter than Cashman; it just makes us fans. But speaking on behalf of my pod of monkeys, trading Jesus for Michael Pineda’s inflamed pitching shoulder was dumbass.
Leather Bound Books April 4, 2012 02:50
Wow. Pineda has an inflamed shoulder. Will you still be crying if he puts up a 3.9 ERA and wins 15 games? I hope not. That’s not an unrealistic expectation.
Whether you like it or not, the Yankees didn’t feel the Jesus was every day catching material. Meaning we were not going to get much use out of him because we have a long term first baseman and need the DH for ARod.
True, you could have gotten something beyond Pineda for it, but if Pineda turns out to be a good number 2, then mission accomplished.
We have enough beast catchers in the system is what it comes down to.
