First complete game of the season for a Yankee pitcher. 8 K, 3 BB, 4 H, 1 ER — and silencing all those who said he should be removed from the rotation.

One CG does not an ace make. Let’s not go sucking each others dicks quite yet! Nice photoshop though.

Why are you speaking like Yoda?
No one said he was going to be an ace (anymore) – but a solid long term number 3 – fo sho.
Reality June 3, 2012 16:53
Yoda speaking I am? Let’s hope that he can pitch like this 3 out of 5 games and not like he did in Anaheim. Hey man I am all for it, but expectations and reality have to meet somewhere. How much rope does this guy get? Is he gonna string us along by pitching a gem every 8 starts? Or is this the game where he turned it all around? And him to the pen isn’t as retarded as you make it sound; he had great success there.
Leather Bound Books June 3, 2012 17:00
You do realize he pitched really well his last 3 starts before Anaheim yes?
Glen Beck's Reality June 3, 2012 17:36
One CG does not an ace make. But one bad start out of 5 against a solid team does a bum make.
Sensitive RAB Guy June 6, 2012 15:18
that last sentence was a little yoda-ish
Actually on Earth right now June 3, 2012 19:01
Only one of his last 6 starts was less than acceptable. Four quality starts, and one just two outs short. 3.73 ERA over that span including his stinker in Anaheim, 3.8 SO/BB, 1.24 WHIP. What’s not to like?
We'll See June 4, 2012 08:51
2 of the quality starts were against KC. One against Seattle. Yes, yesterday’s game was very promising against a solid team. The question is, can he be effective against good lineups over a full season?
saucY June 8, 2012 14:20
and it’s totally Phil’s fault he had to face KC and Seattle. what a bum.
Brett Pedroia June 3, 2012 17:21
Sucking dicks.. where, where?
Phil Lo Green June 3, 2012 16:24
PHUCK YOU, Miggy! 2 Ks! How you like me now, bitch?
P.S. I like how you phucked up that play at third, thanks for the insurance runs! Not like I needed it! HAHAHA

F**k!
Balkin' Bob Davidson June 3, 2012 16:55
You’re outta here!!!
The Glass June 3, 2012 17:21
Very much half full, despite significant injuries and numbskull moronic bitching about the management of the team.
Gardy will help in many ways. DRob will solidify the best bullpen in the league, and hitters like Cano will certainly hit with RISP.
Grill a nice steak, have an expensive bottle of wine, relax and watch them roll.
Sensitive RAB Guy June 6, 2012 15:19
you payin’ honky?
Mike Lupica June 3, 2012 17:23
Complete game against nine hitters? Who cares Johan Santana threw a no hitter on Friday. I called Fred Wilpn during the game. The Mets are the biggest show in town. Also the Yankees have a $200 million dollar payroll. Oh and Bobby Valentine is a genius.
Mike Asxia June 3, 2012 17:59
The Mets remind me of my favorite pair of stained, soiled, unwashed pair of tighty-whiteys. Perfect for ripping a few farts, and loaning out to Bennie.
Sandwich Wrap June 3, 2012 19:20
Bobby invented me! And he didn’t have a $200 million dollar payroll to do it.
Jay Destro June 3, 2012 17:33
Phil Hughes pitched great and I have no penis. I want a penis, though. That must be why I blow so many guys.
Brian S. June 3, 2012 18:01
I like picking my nose and flicking boogers at all my haterz
Mrs. S (Brian's mom) June 3, 2012 18:05
Stop flicking them at me!!!
Bob Barker June 3, 2012 18:20
Since May 1st (last seven starts): 45.2 IP, 20 ER, 10 BB, 40 K, 3.94 ERA. And all but two of them were decent to very good
Bob Barker Jr June 3, 2012 19:21
I never said he needed to be removed from the rotation
I’m just saying 45 inning vs non playoff teams aint that exciting
Pat Kelly #14 June 3, 2012 18:29
A team with 2 great hitters and 7 suckers with very low OBA.

Phil Hughes June 4, 2012 00:10

Pound the corners June 4, 2012 11:08
Hughes has had his ups and downs, but man did he just OWN Cabrera. I don’t think I have seen Cabrera that overmatched before…
Wayne County Police June 4, 2012 11:19
I have.
Gregg Popovich June 4, 2012 20:34
I want some nasty!
Manager without braces June 4, 2012 23:30
Can we let him pitch without having to hear he’s pitching for his spot in the rotation after a bad start? I expect it from the drones on the FAN. It’s pathetic that it often comes from inside the Yankee organization. It’s one of the reasons why this team hasn’t developed their own starters.
Joe Páwlikowski June 5, 2012 11:57
Does it make one gay if they get off to Hughes’ mullet?
