UZR/150, as provided by Fangraphs:

TotalZone, as provided by Baseball-Reference:
Both UZR and TotalZone agree that Granderson’s defense in CF is awful. In fact, UZR ranks him as the worst defensive CF in the majors. And it really all comes down to his range, where again, he ranks the worst among all MLB CFs.
This is the second consecutive season Granderson has declined defensively. His first year in pinstripes — no problem. However, the last two years he’s shown decreased range, and it’s now at the point where you wonder if the Yankees should move him. It will never happen mid-season, especially with all the hoopla and politics about switching someone to a new position. However, we hope the coaching staff/front office will consider it during the offseason.
And for those of you who suffer from Tourette’s and immediately blurt “Mother’s Basement!” when you see any type of fancy stat, does Granderson even pass your eye test? He doesn’t for many fans. He ranks very poorly against his peers when it comes to ‘Instincts’ and ‘First Step’, according to the Fans Scouting Report.
He has an outstanding bat, but Granderson’s defense in CF is a problem.

Tourette’s?

What the yankees should do is move the left field wall back cause gardner is a superb left fielder
The Mets July 8, 2012 13:45
So long as it cuts down on those cheap, Yankee Stadium Home Runs, we support it.
DontChaKnow July 8, 2012 10:05
Clearly Granderson doesn’t get a good read on the ball and should be playing a corner outfield position…..but currently that is not an option. They don’t have anybody to put in centerfield that can hit a baseball. So there’s nothing to bitch about, nothing can change for the better.

^ what he said.
random July 8, 2012 12:17
The sensible thing is to play Gardner when he’s back, but we both know that won’t happen.
Joba Jaw July 8, 2012 14:18
Agreed. Move the G-unit to right, put Granderson and Swisher about 10 feet from the foul lines, and let Gardy do what he do.

*to left
NoMaas July 8, 2012 19:33
but who will cover the extreme huge area of left field once we move the walls back?
we need gardner in left
Austin Jackson July 8, 2012 10:29
How’s my defense?
Melky July 8, 2012 11:18
-cough- Javier Vasquez
Sure wish.. July 8, 2012 12:23
The Yanks kept both of you…
Can’t wait to over pay Granderson after next season when Jackson would have two more years of arbitration. Not to mention the supposed $189 million cap we have.
Thanks goes to the front office for a complete lack of confidence in the farm system and to the dumber half of the fan base that needs an “all-star” at every position.

Bindergate 2012 July 8, 2012 13:51
New York (AP)- In one of the more bizarre stories ever, Yankee manager Joe “The Binder” Girardi has been victimized by a band of thieves in the New York area. The M.O. of these thugs seems to be removing pages from binders, editing the information on them, and re-inserting them. In this instance, page 4 of Girardi’s trusty 3-ringer was the edited page. For 3 years now, the headline on that page was “GRANDERSON IS AN AWFUL CENTERFIELDER.” Underneath it, there was some smaller type about Swisher being a solid outfielder, and a portion inserted for this year that highly recommended Dwayne Wise as a late inning replacement. Apparently, the edited version of the page featured simply a ranking of the Yankee outfielders in order of defensive ability 1) Granderson, 2) Ibanez, 3) Wise, 4) Jones, 5) Teixeira, 6) Posada, 7) Murcer, and 8) Swisher. Repeatedly, Girardi has relied on this page to make some of the most retarded moves in the history of baseball. When asked about the story, Granderson started back on the question, before coming in and watching it drop in front of him. The investigation is ongoing.

Joe said he thought the ball was coming out of Wadey’s hand pretty good last night in the seventh. Instead of Chavy at 3rd Joe thought Nixy would do a solid job.

Austin Jackson would look nice in pinstripes right now. I’m reading too much into this but maybe Ian Kennedy stops Cash from going after Pineda.
DormantUlcer July 8, 2012 16:18
Why is everyone on Ian Kennedy still? He had a great season last year, sure, in the NL mind you. But now even they just about figured him out. He’s had only a handful of quality starts this season, and he was shelled in his interleague starts. Maybe the Yanks can claim him off waivers in a few years.
you are on crack July 8, 2012 20:44
only an asshole would think the yankees would get him off waivers.
Inconvenient Truth July 8, 2012 15:32
I hate when people say A-Rod is an above average 3rd baseman. He doesn’t look spry at all at 3rd but he makes most of the routine plays. They cling to his UZR from last year. That’s a small sample when you look at his UZR from years surrounding that year.

I’m available
NoMaas July 8, 2012 19:36
you are the truth, never mind you only showed one year of being good, our stats say you are the truth and will rebound.
trade banuelos, mason, tyler, betances, david adams and pat venditte for justin upton, you have to give some to get some.
Joeybagonuts July 9, 2012 09:14
Who cares about defense? Gardner is going to set the ML record for strikeouts in a season! Yay!!
Joeybagonuts July 9, 2012 09:14
Oops, that was Granderson
