The Yankees announced that they claimed outfielder Darnell McDonald off waivers from the Red Sox on Wednesday.

McDonald, who was designated for assignment by Boston on Saturday, will join the Yankees’ active roster on Friday, when they start a four-game weekend series at Fenway Park against the Red Sox.

The right-handed McDonald is hitting .214/.309/.369 on the season, with an equally lousy .214/.327/.357 against left-handing pitching.

His career mark against lefties is more respectable: .277/.345/.441. The Yankees will see their fair share of left-handed starters when they visit The House That Tom Yawkey Built.
