Covering July 16th – June 22nd games. Don’t forget to check out our interview last week with Triple-A 2B Corban Joseph.

Pitcher:
Mark Montgomery, 21, RHP, AA (recently promoted)
4.1 IP, 6 K, 0 BB, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 HR
Notable: 3 appearances on the week, one at Tampa/two at Trenton

D-Rob 2.0 or whatever you’d like to call him, Mark Montgomery is flying through the Yankees’ system. It was only two weeks ago when we wondered about a promotion to Trenton. After striking out 61 in 40.1 innings at Tampa (A+), he got bumped to Double-A, where he promptly K’d 4 hitters in 3 innings (in 2 appearances).

The numbers speak for themselves:

Notice he’s yet to allow a HR. At this pace and performance, we can expect Montgomery to be in the Bronx bullpen by early next year…maybe even a September cup of coffee.

Hitter:
Jose Pirela, 22, RHB Utility, AA
.414/.500/.740 in 34 PAs
Notable: Second MLPW of the season

The Jose Pirela Awakening continues…

After another fantastic week, Pirela is now hitting .329/.399/.516, which is by far is the best offensive output of his professional career. Of players with at least 200 PAs, he ranks 5th in the Eastern League in OPS, 6th in wOBA (.400), and 6th in wRC+ (147). He suffered a concussion in April that kept him out until mid-May, and he came back like a man possessed.

How possessed? Well, look at this career output:
