Comment all you want, this was a GREAT deal for Boston. Short term, the impact is obviously negative, but the long term gain is substantial. These guys were an absolute cancer on that team, regardless of their skill level and I’m sure they will all thrive elsewhere, so both sides will be happy. But make no mistake, this was a very good move for the future of Boston. Yes, they will have some trouble attracting free agents, but money talks and now they will have a lot more than they would have otherwise.
All Boston gets out of this is money. And they’ve got plenty of that. Losing Gonzalez is a big hit for the Red Sox going forward. And Crawford didn’t do anything wrong other than get hurt and drop a fly ball. They’ve still got Lackey and Pedroia to fuck up the clubhouse culture anyway.
