Melky Cabrera, whose breakout season with the San Francisco Giants was highlighted by his MVP performance in the All-Star Game, has been suspended 50 games for testing positive for testosterone, Major League Baseball announced.
Cabrera released a statement through the major league players’ association accepting full responsibility for his positive test:
“My positive test was the result of my use of a substance I should not have used. I accept my suspension under the Joint Drug Program and I will try to move on with my life. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and I apologize to my teammates, to the San Francisco Giants organization and to the fans for letting them down.”
Guess that helps explain how you go from being one of the worst hitters in baseball (Braves) to one of the best?

I wonder if Melky has enough dough to pull a Ryan Braun and pay off MLB to get the whole thing dismissed. I hate how the fate of such a great game is controlled by two forms of evil– the umpires and money.
You're an Idiot August 15, 2012 16:58
Pay off MLB? You might as well said “pull a Braun and tie his left shoe” – it would have made as much sense.
Brauns suspension was reversed because of a technical loophole regarding the handling of his test sample. He had smart attorneys that found an easy appeal path. So the cat tests positive, but gets away with it.
I will agree that money drives the MLB however. I think most people would be amazed at the sheer number of athletes that take PEDs (safe money is on all/almost all). Why others get popped while some stay off the radar is either political, mastery of passing drug tests, or just a charade.
Regardless, you’re still an idiot.
Yankee Fan August 15, 2012 19:13
Your “technical loophole” was where the shady business took place. He failed the test; he’s guilty, end of story. Like it or not, those are the facts. You cannot, and I repeat, cannot, argue facts.
And all or almost all athletes take performance-enhancing drugs? That statement is either a sarcastic exaggeration, or more pure ignorance.
You present no facts to substantiate anything you have said, and clearly, you are one hundred percent incorrect. If you wish to converse a valid argument for something, I suggest that you gather facts, brush up on your grammar, and most importantly, think before you attempt to convey your thoughts.
As there is nothing else that need be said, I will no longer follow this article or its posts. With that said, please feel free to rant and rave all you like.

Ryan Braun's lawyers August 16, 2012 09:27
Yeah, that guy is in an idiot, because we worked around the clock to exploit that loophole for FREE. We did not not take one cent of Braun’s hard earned money… Its shameful that Melky simply admitted his wrongdoing instead of asking us to charitibly look over his case.

That implies he earned the money in a fair & true manner. He’s going to make what he deserves.
You're an Idiot Too! August 15, 2012 17:13
I love when people pretend to know logic…
When did the statement “he lost a ton of money” imply how it was earned? Secondly, the manner in which the money was earned has no significance (or relevance) the statement that it was lost.
Yes, its Ad hominem at its finest, regardless: You’re an idiot. Stop pretending to be intelligent.
The Truth August 15, 2012 16:39
Here’s the part that really sucks. He wins the All Star game, is named MVP and wins homefield for the NL. So he cheats & basically could help an NL team win the World Series. Nice idea Bud.
Smart Guy August 15, 2012 20:00
only problem is the AL got shut out and we would have loss regardless
Smarter Guy August 15, 2012 21:46
Melky majorly contributed to the win.

Off Topic, But... August 15, 2012 16:50
The Astros have the worst record in MLB, currently 32 games out, in the NL Central. Anyone have any ideas or predictions on how bad they will be when they make Selig’s “let’s-balance-the-number-of-teams-in-each-division” move to the AL West next year?
The Truth August 15, 2012 17:52
The Astros in the AL, this could get ugly. I mean The Rangers and Angels will basically have 13-16 wins added to their win total based on this move. That means winning the AL East becomes a priority more than ever.
Ritardi August 15, 2012 16:54

Why did Cano not put out his hand when Melk was rounding the bases? Why didn’t Cano translate for Melk when he won the ASG MVP? Why has Cano’s slugging % taken a dip since when Melky supposedly failed his test?
