The fallout from Girardi’s continuous benching of Alex Rodriguez makes us wonder how in the world the third baseman can continue as a member of the Yankees. If fans didn’t like him before the playoffs, this latest controversy has only made Arod’s relationship with New York exponentially worse. We don’t see how the relationship can be repaired for next season, nevermind over the remainder of Arod’s contract.
The problem is that Arod has 5 years left on his deal, which takes him through age 42 — not exactly the type of contract that makes him appealing to other teams.
If the Yankees pick up the bulk of Arod’s contract, just to get him out of town, how productive would that be? Hal Steinbrenner does not want to be a luxury tax payer, and the Yankees would still be on the hook if they paid Alex to play elsewhere. Also, keep in mind that Arod was still an above-average hitter in 2012, and the Yankees would need to find and pay a third baseman to replace him. How will that math work under the Steinbrenner Cap?
The Yankees have backed themselves into a corner.

Just trade him to the Marlins for Heath Bell. Loria already said he is down.
Obvious October 17, 2012 23:14
Also they can throw in Christian Yelich and/or Jose Fernandez if they want. >:)
Boston Sucks! October 17, 2012 23:55
Why don’t you stop fapping over trades that will never happen just because NESPN wants to stir up some shit.
Alex October 18, 2012 10:55
Hey, guys, we didn’t lose last night!
Troof Squad October 17, 2012 22:51
Send ARod to the Marlins with our best prospects for a sack of baseballs.

I would trade A-Rod and Mason Williams for nothing if they ate all of A-Rod’s contract.
Yankee Fan October 17, 2012 23:04
“how productive would that be?”
Right now they are having him sit in the most important games
and when he did play he was getting PH for in the biggest spots
so I would think to answer your question it would be a very productive move
to remove the cancer from the team.
& the fact that he is a closet homosexual can’t help the clubhouse.

This was a popular comment.
SP October 18, 2012 09:51
I have no idea if he actually is (I suspect not), but if he decided to come out it would actually improve his popularity and marketability pretty significantly.
Casey McGehee October 17, 2012 23:05
I’m still under contract and dirt cheap until David Wright gets here.
DormantUlcer October 17, 2012 23:05
Has there been any consideration that, despite what he or anyone insists, he still isn’t 100 percent from his wrist injury?
Obvious October 17, 2012 23:16
Yeah he’s fucking Nick Johnson. He’s been on the DL every year for a variety of reasons and it is annoying. And he’s old so his health issues are not going to get better.
Boston Sucks! October 17, 2012 23:57
Considering some of the shemales he’s been associated with, it wouldn’t surprise me if he really was fucking Nick Johnson. He’s always been a little bit of a switch hitter if you know what I mean.
DormantUlcer October 18, 2012 11:57
In fairness, he was hit by a pitch on the wrist. You can’t really get on him for that one. And he was slugging .860 for the month of July until it happened.
DormantUlcer October 18, 2012 11:59
OPS’ing .860. Slugging .493.
saucY October 18, 2012 15:01
Sep 3, 2012 to Sep 16, 2012
OPS .871
SLG .520
I think we can throw not really being 100% after the wrist injury…
Unless it was re-aggravated and he’s been keeping it quiet. In which case he’s a dick.
saucY October 18, 2012 15:02
*throw out
Nick Johnson October 18, 2012 13:33
I was about to type up an angry reply to this post but then I broke my wrist…
Reality Check October 19, 2012 09:25
Check out how A-Rod hit the first week or two he came back from the wrist injury. He was killing it. Nope, his struggles are just the usual A-Rod choking act we all know and love.

hank October 17, 2012 23:18
We are paying him not to play in the most games of the year! You think we’re afraid to dump him during regular season games in 2013 and beyond? Jeter will now be the third baseman and he can hide out at dh. We made 453 million last year. We will show Arod his 114 mil over five years is our compound interest and it’s tax free. It’s a mistake. We will trade him and pay another team to watch them deal with his nonsense. Mark The Words Of Hank.
Rasta Andruw Jones October 17, 2012 23:58
Pass da chronic, mon!
Hank October 18, 2012 02:26
So you are smoking dope and you see AROD playing in the most important games of the year. I see him glued to the bench. Yanks have made their move. He’s out of here.
.430 slg October 17, 2012 23:19
Nothing says above average like a .430 slugging percentage for 3B
There is a better chance October 17, 2012 23:21
Of winning this series than seeing Arod back in pinstripes. There is zero chance he’s back in NY next year. It’s just not gonna happen. It’s beyond bad right now for Yanks, Arod and the fans. They will eat a bunch of his contract, but it’s something that just MUST be done. Admit the mistake and move on.
Obvious October 17, 2012 23:25
Fuck eating money. The Marlins will absorb it all and it will be glorious.
The AROD Files October 17, 2012 23:33
April 2007 is all anyone need to remember
the rest is just a great player going off
and father time – injuries – PED ravages have caught up to
but during his time the guy was always concerned more about money & his image than the game.
one of the best talents attached to loser personality
bonds had loser personality but did you ever think he wasn’t about winning?

How quickly you faggots forget the rings. LOLing at you talking about other people as “loser personalities.”
The AROD Files October 18, 2012 00:29
The RINGS?
1 ring in 9 seasons
when we had 4 rings in prior 9 says he was faggot
who kept us from winning at least 3 rings
Serious question October 18, 2012 13:44
Where is your proof that Arod prevented the Yankees from winning 3 additional championships?
Obvious October 18, 2012 00:12
A-Rod carried this team to the World Series pretty much by himself in 2009 and the last couple of years he has done nothing but be a supportive teammate who is always giving advice to players (like to Boone Logan last year). His contributions to the organization will not be forgotten but he needs to be off the payroll.
Matsui October 18, 2012 08:44
Really? I recall hitting .615 with some home runs. Damon and Jeter weren’t bad either.
Reality Check October 19, 2012 09:28
A-Rod destroyed everyone in 2009, Hidek… you know that shit. And, he drove in the biggest run of the WS after Joba coughed up the lead in Philly.
Brandon October 18, 2012 00:30
It’s pretty damn obvious that he wasn’t the same after he came back from the DL. I’m still certain he can be effective if he is healthy. That just never happens, though. Maybe a permanent switch to DH and starting Mustelier would do the job
Well October 18, 2012 00:39
Fucking bandwagon haters. He’s going to be a monster next year.
And we’ll be pissed off because it will be for another team.
Have some perspective.. He single handedly won us our only Championship in over a decade.
That was 3 years ago. Not 10.
Reef October 18, 2012 01:47
It makes a ton of sense to relegate a guy, who is going to be making 140 million dollars over the next 5 years, to the last player on the bench, before you try to trade him.
Brian Cashman October 18, 2012 03:09
Don’t worry…my track record of scouting and developing young talent will ensure the New York Yankees’ line-ups of the future will be full of young, vibrant, athletic hitters and strong, injury-free pitchers that stay in peak physical condition.

Andrew Friedman, et al October 19, 2012 02:32
Yeah, it is really hard to win with a $200+ million dollar payroll. Look what happens when the spigot is turned down a few million…no longer any room to cover up all those mistakes.
Mike Lupica October 18, 2012 09:40
A-Rod cannot come back next year. Why? Because like my wrinkled washed up predecessor Dick Young, I will spend every column I write reminding you that he talked to some woman in the stands based on a NY Ppost article ehich cannot be proven. I will ignore the fact that the team I constantly cream in my pants about, the 1986 NY Mets, were a bunch of scum bags who wasted their talents worse than Alex ever did. My fellow lazy ass journalists like, Wallace “gay athelets should come out because I want them to” Matthews, Ian “Romo is better than Eli” O’Connor and Filip “soccer will take over America by 2004″ Bondy will pepper you with opinions as to how the Yankees can get back to being the Yankees by getting rid of Alex. BIll Madden, a senile old fuck who has a hall of fame vote, will write about the Yankees should just release him. Donald Trump, and his hair piece, will go on the radio and attack a man, who could whip his ass with his pinky. RA Dickey should win the CY Young. Bob Ryan is my main man, in the sack.
Reality Check October 19, 2012 09:30
The woman in the stands confirmed it… there are pics of her with the baseball ARod gave her all over the interwebs.
