On Tuesday, before what would be Boston’s last-place clincher at Yankee Stadium, Bobby Valentine crashed his bike in rain-soaked Central Park.
The embattled manager took a spill as he was riding and reading a text from Dustin Pedroia, according to the New York Times. The banged-up second baseman was apparently informing Valentine that he’d be able to play against the Yankees.
“I shouldn’t have been reading a text while I was riding, ” Valentine told the Times. “That’s the wrong thing to do. But at least I was wearing my helmet.”
Valentine looked up and “had to swerve to avoid the umbrellas of two French tourists,” the Times reported, adding he “went careening head over pedals down the side of the hill by the road” near the Central Park Reservoir.

Since Fenway isn’t being used for postseason games, the Sox are offering season ticket holders a chance to take pitching machine BP on the field this weekend (5 pitches/person.) I got one of the tickets, and damn right I’m wearing my Yankees road jersey.
