I’ve been a Yankee fan since 1985, yes 1985. I’ve lived through an era where the Mets were the NY team, though very short, a 90+ loss team in 1990, the 1995 debacle vs. Seattle, 4 rings in 5 years, an absolute heartbreaker in 2001 vs. Arizona, being shot in the 2003 WS by the Marlins, collapsing being up 3-0 on Boston in 2004, 3 straight Torre mess ups, missing the playoffs in 2008, a return to glory in 2009, and back to back disappointments since. But I never witnessed a Yankee team just give up and die like they did this ALCS vs. the Tigers. This was an absolute disgrace to the Yankee brand. Somewhere George Steinbrenner has rolled over in his grave. Quite frankly he’s in a better place than to have witnessed this horse shit.
The manager sat a guy who played 160 games for him all year long. You got to go to battle with your men. He didn’t realize after 160 games Curtis swings for the seats and nothing else?!?!?! That benching was psychologically dumber than the AROD. He was the everyday guy for 160 games and he sits for the game we’re down 3 – 0 for a bench warmer who didn’t play at all.
The manager then thinks another AROD drama was needed?
Are you sure it wasn’t worse than 2004? I’m pretty sure losing 4 straight (after being up 3-0) to the Sawx- only to see them sweep the WS- will piss me off for a lot longer than this season ever will.
Don’t get me wrong, 2004 was a horror fest. But this ALCS was just a fucking disgrace of Yankee baseball. 1st time we were swept since 1980. Lowest team BA in any post season series. We made more pitching changes than had offensive hits. We lost to an 88 win team. We’ve now dropped 3 straight post season series’ to Jim Leyland and the Detroit Tigers. Cano/Granderson/A-Rod/Chavez/Swisher/Teixiera went 0 for October. Fucking hacks.
The fans in 2004 know that the only reason we lost those four in a row was because I kept sending Tom Gordon out there, the worst reliever in the history of post-season baseball. Yup, he was my guy, I kept watching his parade of baserunners and just sitting there on my ass. Most of the time I was able to send Mo in to clean up his mess, but I fell asleep in Game 5… wow, series would have ended there if I had just pulled Gordon a batter sooner! Where’s my Bigelow tea?
Things will get worse before they get better… It pisses me off that Boston was able to hit the reset button due to some SoCal moron ownership group led by Magic Johnson. WTF are we gonna do with our sack of crap no trade clause albatross contract A-Dud?! A-Dud if you have the balls to come back next season you f-ing owe it to this team to juice the fuck up! You miss 50 games a season due to injury anyway so time to start rolling the dice! Go fuck Madonna.
Nodded my head through RimJob Mike’s whole post. This shit was ridiculous. I can only imagine what The Boss already would be doing with this team. He’d tell Swisher not to let the door hit him on the way out; he’d laugh at any ridiculous contract Granderson’s agent asked for, but offer something realistic with BA incentives; he’d already have been on the phone with Josh Hamilton’s agent to get a power lefty who actually hits for high average and could possibly hit the longest ball to right field thus far in the new stadium; filthy Phil Hughes would be long gone; Andruw Jones would be on a raft back to the Netherlands; A-Rod would be tied underneath said raft; Kuroda and the chopstick guy would each get another year; Cano would get a multi-year contract– the salary of which would be largely contingent on a performance base; calls would be in to the agents of Raul Ibanez, Torii Hunter, and Michael Bourn (him and Gardner could combine for 100 stolen bases); more calls would be made to agents of James Shields and Zach Greinke; Nova would be trade bait… and so on, as the boss we knew and loved, who gave all.
It’s going to be interesting to see what happens now.
Hamilton, Greinke, or James Shields would be short-term contracts? Go look at Torii Hunter’s numbers this year. You’re a clown who knows nothing about the game of baseball. You’re probably 20 years old and can’t remember much about how The Boss did things, which is sad. You’re getting a very unrepresentative version of the “Yankees” these days. I feel bad for you. Go read, go learn, think before you speak.
Torii Hunter’s line this year was .313 / 16hr / 92 rbi. All of which come with an outstanding glove and throwing arm. He’s an excellent option to consider… key word being “consider,” which is what Yeah meant. This guy is either a troll, a Red Sux fan, or an Andruw Jones fan, hahaha. Don’t even bother with him man.
Yes, let’s sign Torii Hunter and Michael Bourn. That sounds like a great plan for success. And if we really want to avoid potential disaster, I’m sure that signing a 31 year old Josh Hamilton to a long-term deal will be just brilliant.
Fans get pissed off that knee-jerk reactions don’t work and then respond by suggesting even shittier knee-jerk reactions. It fucking amazes me.
He never said to sign both or all of them. He said they are options that The Boss would consider and makes calls to the agent of each, to compare the players and the possible deals, to make the best one… which is what every ball club does and has always done. It’s a little something called “common sense.” He also said nothing suggesting giving Hamilton a long-term deal.
Put down the bottle of Haterade and read and think through what the guy wrote before you jump on a fellow fan and put words in his mouth.
Jeez, I know we just lost the ALCS, but come on… use your heads. It was pretty easy for me to see The Boss doing all of what “Yeah” wrote; he always weighed out the best options for the team and did the best he could to put the best team on the field and improve it when things did not work. Wow, he’s only been gone two years and you guys already forgot what’d he do? Haha, alright… I support you man. Don’t listen to the young’ns who can’t read.
The Boss “always weighed out the best options for the team and did the best he could to put the best team on the field and improve it when things did not work.”
Like hire and fire Billy Martin more times than Rainman could count? Like hire Howie Spira to dig up dirt on Dave Winfield?
To quote you again: “Wow, he’s only been gone two years and you guys already forgot what’d he do?”
Exactly. He’s been dead for 2 years and you already forgot some of the insanely stupid shit he would do to get in the way of this team. Let the baseball men run the team, and have the owners show a passion for winning.
relax dude, nobody’s perfect. George was awesome and did far more awesome things for the club than some of the mistakes that he made, as any human being does. that’s all he was saying, anyone can tell that. why try to ignite arguments? why all the hate? i just don’t get some of the people on this site…
When hotheads piss and moan about a tough but plausible playoff exit, and start riding the Boss’s jock, without acknowledging that he fucked up as many rosters with his impulsive signings and petty grudges and terrible research, *they’re* the ones who need to relax.
I don’t disagree that Steinbrenner would be very silent today, then unleash a tirade after the WS ended. I miss that. And I agree that we need to look at other options, though there isn’t much available. But I strongly disagree about Hamilton; he would never survive in this city, he is far too fragile. We made it to the ALCS with a team built for the longball, which doesn’t work in post-season play, as we just witnessed. Keep Ichiro, Gardy comes back, hang on to Granderson for another year, leave all else the same but get a 3B who can hit and DH A-Rod. Honestly, that’s the only realistic outcome. Maybe look for a power outfielder instead of Ichiro, but beside Hamilton, there aren’t many viable options. It’s a mess right now, but let’s be honest, the rest of the season wasn’t exactly luck.
I agree, Hamilton would be a very risky investment, even if he could hit 50+ bombs with half his games played at Yankee Stadium. Not everyone can handle the New York pressure and ruthless media. Heck, I know I couldn’t, haha. I think George would definitely strongly consider Hamilton for what he could bring to the team, but he may not be a good fit.
I REALLY hope they keep Ichiro; his numbers since joining the Yanks have been right on par with the rest of his incredible career (not to mention, he steps it up in the postseason).
I’d like to see Granderson come back with a batting average higher than .232. If he can get his eyes checked and add 50 points to that number, that would be amazing… but again, no guarantee, of course.
I’m also really looking forward to a healthy Brett Gardner, playing a full year. I think the best is yet to be seen from him and I love his full-on hustle. I love seeing guys on the team who are incredible defensively and have excellent speed; I wish there were more of them! Maybe they can talk with Michael Bourn?
I don’t even know what to say about A-Rod. If the Yanks unloaded him to someone stupid enough to take on his contract, that move alone would satisfy their whole sub-luxury tax fetish. I don’t think there’s any chance of him waving his no-trade clause though. He gave one interview a few days ago where they had to bleep out all his curses and he basically said that him and Girardi aren’t cool anymore and did not answer when they asked if he wanted to stay a Yankee. Then, yesterday, he comes out and says he loves the Yankees and is absolutely going to stay. Maybe he was just mad– who knows?
I miss George making the big move after a huge collapse too. Nice to have a positive conversation with someone on this site without all the customary hate and nonsense, backed by unsubstantiated wild statements and fabricated statistics.
You’re the least of our problems… with the way the offense has been backing you and the rest of the pitching staff up lately I wouldn’t be surprised if you just gave up.
Fan since ’76, lived through the dark days of the early 90s until the rebirth in ’96. They will rise again, but they sure shit the bed this week — never held a lead in any of the 4 games. Maybe this will hasten the inevitable turnover, which would be a welcome sight. Until next year!
Well, it was bad, but not 2004 bad, so whatever. If the offense didn’t work there wasn’t much any of the pitchers or coaching staff could do. On to 2013.
If I had only thrown that ball to first…I can still see Tino with his glove extended giving me that WTF look, with the runner 40 steps away from first….

Or if a double-play ball wasn’t thrown into center field…
This was worse than ’01 or ’04 because we were pathetic & lifeless, and the hitters didn’t much seem to care. 2001 was the epic end to the greatest dynasty we’ll ever see, and we played to the final out in maybe the greatest WS ever. Couldn’t win every year, and in the wake of 9/11 it was an honor to participate in such a classic. 2004 was terrible, and losing to the Red Sox was especially painful, but we had no starting pitching, so the losses seemed more understandable. This year our hitters wasted opportunity after opportunity, making a mediocre Oriole & Tiger starters look like Strasburg. We were limpdicked. A total embarrassment.
By the end of this series, for the first time I can EVER remember as a Yankee fan, I lost faith that this group could do it. I sat there in front of the TV, knowing that Grandy & ARod & Swish & Cano were going to fail. The losing felt inevitable, unlike 2001 & 2004, and that’s as low as it gets.
Congratulations! Level up–you’re now a Red Sox fan.
The teams and pitching staffs you mention were so mediocre they were in the top 8 in baseball. Johnson, Verlander, and Scherzer sure are limpdicks.
You can complain about the results but you’re a moron if you didn’t see hitters grinding out at-bats. I’ll grant you Curtis’s 3-pitch Ks but I have no beef with pretty much anyone else.
If you thought the losing was inevitable, that’s on you bro. Sorry that Momma didn’t hug you enough but you should see a shrink.
The astute manager knows that if a coin comes up tails 20 times in a row, it is likely a broken coin and will always come up tails, so better to pinch hit a spring training caliber Gardner and panic.
Chills Mills, our guys just hit a cold streak at the wrong time. The ARod thing is strange, both sides could’ve diffused the whole controversy by saying: ARod is hitting 600 OPS against RHP. Remember the man is coming back from a broken wrist so don’t look to much into him sitting.” The fact that this devolved into what it did makes me expect some interesting behind-the-scenes details to emerge after the smoke clears. The other guys were just cold. Still like Swish, want him back at the right price. All this being said, I wouldn’t be opposed to a couple years of rebuilding, not bc they need to, but bc it would be interesting…I think
Gotta be more to this. Never seen a Yankee team lie down like they just did, watchin’ the boyz for a long time now.
Benching Arod wasnt about “not hitting right handers” either… actually, the whole team seemed very different.
Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall this past week. Wouldnt be a bit surprised if there was anarchy in that vault of a clubhouse.
The whole thing is just odd…
Oh well… when is Opening Day 2013?
Go Yankees!
Anarchy you say? What the fuck does that even mean? They refused to bat where they were told? Cano and Martin switched places on the field? CC and Hughes switched spots in the rotation? Tex took his own flight to Detroit?

You’re right about that. The 2012 Red Sox got rid of horrendous contracts. No one is take Arod and paying for it. Enjoy watching Arod suck for the next 5 years, or get traded and actually play well while the Yankees pay for it.
The Sox gave up an elite position player to rid themselves of those contracts. They traded something irreplaceable for cash.
Would you trade A-Rod for some shitty prospects to ditch his contract if you had to ship Cano with him? Or CC?
Seriously, how can anybody not see that the big Sox trade was a cash grab by ownership. The team got worse, and there’s nobody on the market this season to replace what they lost. Sure they got rid of some dead weight, but that’s just money. Last I checked fans didn’t care about how many hundreds of millions of dollars the team took in profits.
I understand what you’re saying, but with how those guys were playing and how much they didn’t give a shit… anyone will be an improvement, especially if they aren’t costing the team a fortune. It was a smart move by the Red Sux. I would have loved to see Josh Beckett stay and work on elevating his already +5 ERA, and give up another pair of HR’s in a couple innings to Ichiro.
Pathetic and old. I actually give Girardi lots of credit he got this far with these guys. Nothing he could have done better. Nobody hit…nobody. Nothing else matters. Please don’t bring back Jones, Ibanez, Swisher, Arod, and Martin. Nothing personal, but we are too old.
Don’t bring back Ibanez? I understand the whole “getting older” thing, but you obviously did not watch the postseason this year, haha. There’s one in every crowd, right guys?
Yeah, give Girardi credit. After all, without him the Yankees would have won the division by 5 games and had their guys rested and their rotation all straightened out in time for the playoffs. Without him they would probably have won Game 4 of the ALDS and had a day off and CC for Game 1 of the ALCS. Somebody buy that man a sandwich and a multi-million dollar contract extension!
He was also 11th in BB% (11%), 7th in ISO (.260), 8th in Runs Scored, and T-2nd in HRs. But why ruin the narrative. I’m sure it will be a piece of cake to replace that production for 1/15.
Let us deal with the Hot Stove, you have enough to do.
The one constant to the George Steinbrenner era will his unceasing desire to win and I just don’t get that vibe from either Hank or Hal. Seems they are more concerned with crunching the numbers then hoisting the Trophy. I just don’t have a great deal of confidence in who’s minding the store.

In case you missed it... October 19, 2012 00:50Reply
The Steinbrenner sons came out at the beginning of the year and made it very clear that there would be no more big contracts and that the prime focus is now on saving money and promoting farmhands, not on spending and winning. Do a quick Google search…
That’s my point, the focus is on saving money, not on winning. I’m all for ditching the bloated contracts and developing a stronger farm system, but I’d still like to be able to sign a player like Cespedes.
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that I just don’t see the passion for winning from Hank and Hal that we all saw in The Boss. Perhaps I’m just being reactionary and the new approach will pay off. I’m along for the ride regardless.
Yeah, they definitely don’t have any passion in the team. They’re billionaires who want more, at the expense of the greatest franchise in the history of sports. It’s disgusting, but they’ve made it clear that they don’t care. I’m still along for the ride, but it’s definitely very different. So many years with George… he was great.
I need to be traded cause Im not clutch. I can help the team get a haul. Do you think I’ll look better in Dodger Blue or Giant Orange. I think I can be a really good Astro. One of those teams will pay me 8/180.. The Yanks cant be too estupido and extend me for that much.. At least I can jog to first if they do.
Hey, bring me back. Even without the juice, I can be at least a 280 hitter. Ill be better than Swish. I dont even need to be with my buddy Robbie. Ill come cheap! Please!

Where is Pythagoras when you need Him? Trying to understand what happened, and I cannot believe that it was players going off the juice or players not caring or the manager’s fault or the stadium’s fault or our fault for not being able to afford stadium tickets. Pythagoras, wherever your damn holy Essence is, has there been a greater occurrence of late season flame outs in baseball over the last couple of years, and has there been a declining trend in late season offensive production? I am thinking Rangers, White Sox collapse in 2012, Braves, Red Sux last year. Can it be chalked up to something as simple as fatigue? Did the new postseason schedule have anything to do with it?
And cmon – we did get pretty far down the road given the fucking boatload of problems we faced this year. 2012 Yankees gave me far more than I thought possible. Thank you, Team!
Before Ibanez hit the HR in the bottom of the 9th against the Dead Sox, I remember thinking holy shit, they’re going to knock the Yankees out of the division lead. I had visions of Boston fans with their shit-eating grins bragging about how the scrappy, dirt-covered Brett Pedroia’s brother knocked out the big bad Bombers.
Before that, when the pissing away of the 10-game division lead was complete, it looked like the Angel’s-Rangers-A’s-O’s had a realistic chance of keeping the Yankees out of the playoffs altogether. That’s how bad they were playing.
Then, they stepped it up some, and never left first place. So, looking at it this way, even though they had the best record, they still overachieved. The ALDS victory over Flanny’s boys was a very limp-wristed and weak. As frustrating as it was to watch the explosive diarrhea that was the Yankees offense, things could have been worse.
Bottom line, our 40 year-old dh platoon OF hit like an all-star, while the 5 all-stars hit like 40 year-old DHs
All Detroit pitchers except Verlander are in for a rude awakening. Wait until they have to face a team that is actually hitting. Do you think Phil Coke can close a game against the Cardinals?
I watched the Cardinals score 2 runs in one inning last night. This small bit of hitting made their offense looked downright explosive compared to the pinstriped funeral procession I’ve been watching.
I’m not saying it was a success. I’m saying I expected worse. If not for interleague play and a couple weeks after this was a below 500 team. This was a very frustrating team to watch. They clearly didn’t belong in the playoffs. they were swept by a team that limped into the playoffs. As far as the mets are concerned – you got the wrong guy.

After last year’s ALDS and the all-or-nothing offense of the regular season, this really wasn’t too surprising. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The pitching really stepped up and the team’s issues are so fucking obvious now that maybe we’ll stand a chance of hitting some of the right buttons during the offseason.
The team over-achieved to even make the ALCS and in a few seasons this post-season exit won’t feel any different from any of the other shitty post-season exits over the last ten years. That is to say that I’ll have to think really hard to remember if 2012 was the year with the shitty hitting or was that the one where a rally monkey raped us?
Whatever you posters are trying to say is wrong. I don’t even need to know what you’re saying. It’s just wrong. I have like three strawmen lined up to keep you busy for an hour before I even lay out my red herrings. Admit you’re wrong, all off you!
After we trade A-Rod and Grandy to the Marlins for Heath Bell and one of Jose Fernandez/Christian Yelich. And then trade 3 of our better prospects for Justin Upton.
LF Ichiro Suzuki
3B Derek Jeter
2B Robinson Cano
RF Justin Upton
DH David Roidtiz
1B Mark Teixeira
C Russell Martin
CF Brett Gardner
SS Eduardo time to shine Nunez
Prince Derek will never play third, it’s way beneath him.
He should have moved to 3rd when the yanks picked up arod, what makes you think he’d move now?
Don’t worry…my track record of scouting and developing young talent will ensure the New York Yankees’ line-ups of the future will be full of young, vibrant, athletic hitters and strong, injury-free pitchers that stay in peak physical condition.
The bats weren’t hot. If C.C. pitched as well as the incredible other games he dominated, the Yankees still lose this one thanks to their two-hit performance.
Thanks for the entertainment after a very disappointing post season. Nothing left to do now except wait for the smoke to clear and see how our team shapes up for next season. I will miss Swisher but would love to see the Melkman back. Maybe he can learn how to use the Dominican milkshakes without getting caught. I’ll bet Big Sloppy over in Bausten can help him out.
I’ll be on the golf course working on my swing!….. In all seriousness though, I think there will be some changes, not sure what, but I could definitely see Cashman going out and getting an OF that is a contact hitter with speed and roll an OF of Gardner/Ichiro/new dude
Thank GOD, someone with SENSE on this site! Imagine Bourn, Gardner and Ichiro? That’s a lot of speed– talented speed, that is. They could score us a lot of runs!
I hope Girardi doesn’t end up being the scapegoat, I think he did well with this team.
Maybe, just maybe, that new leadership of ours that I don’t really like will realize that the stadium is horribly mismanaged into some kind of commercial swamp instead of an actual baseball stadium, and that contracts like ARod shouldn’t happen at all anymore.
The ages at which CC and Tex finish, should be the end of the stick.
If managing based on reporters’ and talk show callers’ opinions is good managing, I’m the best! I watched Cano jog to first all year and did nothing! Injuries? How does plugging in the next man up make me a great manager? Wasn’t my dopey “rest every hot hitter” mantra supposed to prevent injuries? I suck, I am overmatched, and the Yankees deserve better.
Agreed, the Yankees got as far as they did DESPITE their manager. The only great move he made this year was putting in Ibanez for A-Rod. All his other game-costing moves the entire year were covered up by his classic one liner: “It’s still early.” Someone needs to tell him that August and September are not appropriate times for that phrase.
Thank you NoMaas for another great season of coverage. Don’t always agree with you, but you’re never afraid to make an opinion. Every other Yankee blog pussyfoots. You don’t.
Excuse me?!? RAB doesn’t pussyfoot….. we cocksuck and were damn proud of it! MOM! Get me a hot pocket NOW, Editor-in-Chief needs to eat and then hypocritically bitch about fatties on treadmills

Dear Mr. Levine:
As we have seen with the recent Soriano and Jeter deals, we know you have the ability to incorporate the big picture into your assessment of the Yankees on-field needs. It is your “big picture” vision that we need now. The recent financial crisis and recession has led to major staff reductions on Wall Street and has significantly decreased the number of high-ticket expense account dining/drinking at bars and restaurants in our fair borough.
Simply put, Josh Hamilton can fill this gap. If you bring him to New York, we are certainly willing to compensate the Yankees for a percentage of Josh’s contract.
In closing, see the big picture. The bar and restaurant association needs your involvement this off season.
Best Regards,
The Manhattan Bar and Restaurant Association
The entire organization needs an overhaul. I just hate our identity with Arod, soft players, etc. And you know what’s even a worse crime? A former Red Sox fan from New England, with the most horrendous chowder accent ever, and a woman mind you, is our radio announcer!!! Why?? How does this happen??
Asshole Sterling was so EXCITED yesterday after Peralta hit his 2nd homer I thought he jizzed his pants. “It is High.. mmmit is Farr.. it is GOOOONE!” I was hearing his sorry ass last night and wanted to reach through the radio and rip out his fuckin esophogus.

Joe Torre October 19, 2012 09:09
The fans in 2004 know that the only reason we lost those four in a row was because I kept sending Tom Gordon out there, the worst reliever in the history of post-season baseball. Yup, he was my guy, I kept watching his parade of baserunners and just sitting there on my ass. Most of the time I was able to send Mo in to clean up his mess, but I fell asleep in Game 5… wow, series would have ended there if I had just pulled Gordon a batter sooner! Where’s my Bigelow tea?
No Trade Clause October 18, 2012 23:41
Things will get worse before they get better… It pisses me off that Boston was able to hit the reset button due to some SoCal moron ownership group led by Magic Johnson. WTF are we gonna do with our sack of crap no trade clause albatross contract A-Dud?! A-Dud if you have the balls to come back next season you f-ing owe it to this team to juice the fuck up! You miss 50 games a season due to injury anyway so time to start rolling the dice! Go fuck Madonna.
Yeah October 19, 2012 00:38
Marsellus Wallace October 19, 2012 00:43
What now? Lemme tell you “what now.”
Leather Bound Books October 19, 2012 05:42
Yeah a lot of what you wrote sounds like nothing but short term knee-jerk stupidity. Sorry dude.
Torii Hunter especially is surely a great contract to pick up and Josh Hamilton equally *rolleye*
Wrong, Read Again October 19, 2012 12:45
Hamilton, Greinke, or James Shields would be short-term contracts? Go look at Torii Hunter’s numbers this year. You’re a clown who knows nothing about the game of baseball. You’re probably 20 years old and can’t remember much about how The Boss did things, which is sad. You’re getting a very unrepresentative version of the “Yankees” these days. I feel bad for you. Go read, go learn, think before you speak.
Reality October 19, 2012 12:51
Torii Hunter’s line this year was .313 / 16hr / 92 rbi. All of which come with an outstanding glove and throwing arm. He’s an excellent option to consider… key word being “consider,” which is what Yeah meant. This guy is either a troll, a Red Sux fan, or an Andruw Jones fan, hahaha. Don’t even bother with him man.
U mad bro? October 19, 2012 11:34
Yankee Fan October 19, 2012 13:02
The Boss October 19, 2012 14:33
The Boss “always weighed out the best options for the team and did the best he could to put the best team on the field and improve it when things did not work.”
Like hire and fire Billy Martin more times than Rainman could count? Like hire Howie Spira to dig up dirt on Dave Winfield?
To quote you again: “Wow, he’s only been gone two years and you guys already forgot what’d he do?”
Exactly. He’s been dead for 2 years and you already forgot some of the insanely stupid shit he would do to get in the way of this team. Let the baseball men run the team, and have the owners show a passion for winning.
lol October 19, 2012 14:48
relax dude, nobody’s perfect. George was awesome and did far more awesome things for the club than some of the mistakes that he made, as any human being does. that’s all he was saying, anyone can tell that. why try to ignite arguments? why all the hate? i just don’t get some of the people on this site…
Reality Check October 24, 2012 00:00
When hotheads piss and moan about a tough but plausible playoff exit, and start riding the Boss’s jock, without acknowledging that he fucked up as many rosters with his impulsive signings and petty grudges and terrible research, *they’re* the ones who need to relax.
A Waste October 19, 2012 16:56
Yeah well how much shitter does 0-4 get? I’ll rather see that group than this sorry bag of walking dead pussies.
Duh October 19, 2012 13:48
Yankee Fan October 19, 2012 15:04
*shakes hand*

Sorry everybody.
I guess I shouldn’ta had those extra boxes of Cap’N Crunch this morning. I thought I would need the extra energy.
Kurtis Granderson October 18, 2012 20:36
You’re the least of our problems… with the way the offense has been backing you and the rest of the pitching staff up lately I wouldn’t be surprised if you just gave up.
Good grief October 18, 2012 20:10
Fan since ’76, lived through the dark days of the early 90s until the rebirth in ’96. They will rise again, but they sure shit the bed this week — never held a lead in any of the 4 games. Maybe this will hasten the inevitable turnover, which would be a welcome sight. Until next year!
Brandon October 18, 2012 20:24
Complete disgrace. Things have to change, and they will, for better or worse.
Rey22 October 18, 2012 20:27
Well, it was bad, but not 2004 bad, so whatever. If the offense didn’t work there wasn’t much any of the pitchers or coaching staff could do. On to 2013.
Ha Ha Heehee October 18, 2012 21:25
2004 was bad? the yanks were a part of history, without them there would have been no greatest comeback in baseball history!

2001 was far, far worse than 2004.

Joe Torre October 19, 2012 09:24
Oh I almost forgot how I sat on my ass and didn’t pull my team off the field while they were invaded by bugs against the Indians.
Impeach John & Suzyn October 19, 2012 13:36
Schooled by LoHud October 24, 2012 00:09

PagsRags October 18, 2012 20:45

What the fuck does anarchy even mean?

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I’ll never look into your eyes…again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need…of some…stranger’s hand
In a…desperate land
Lost in a Roman…wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
There’s danger on the edge of town
Ride the King’s highway, baby
Weird scenes inside the gold mine
Ride the highway west, baby
Ride the snake, ride the snake
To the lake, the ancient lake, baby
The snake is long, seven miles
Ride the snake…he’s old, and his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here, and we’ll do the rest
The blue bus is callin’ us
The blue bus is callin’ us
Driver, where you taken’ us
The killer awoke before dawn, he put his boots on
He took a face from the ancient gallery
And he walked on down the hall
He went into the room where his sister lived, and…then he
Paid a visit to his brother, and then he
He walked on down the hall, and
And he came to a door…and he looked inside
Father, yes son, I want to kill you
Mother…I want to…WAAAAAA
C’mon baby,——— No “take a chance with us”
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
C’mon baby, take a chance with us
And meet me at the back of the blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
On a blue bus
Doin’ a blue rock
C’mon, yeah
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, kill
This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of nights we tried to die
This is the end

At least we aren’t the 2011 or 2012 Red Sox.
Jobascrackheadedmom October 19, 2012 00:52
You’re right about that. The 2012 Red Sox got rid of horrendous contracts. No one is take Arod and paying for it. Enjoy watching Arod suck for the next 5 years, or get traded and actually play well while the Yankees pay for it.
Suckers!!! Hahahahahahahahhahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Nick Social October 19, 2012 08:02
Hank and Hal probably have 100 million in their couch cushions.
We’re still the Yankees.
You’re still Red Sox.
We’ll always be better than you.
Call me Crazy October 19, 2012 14:04
The Sox gave up an elite position player to rid themselves of those contracts. They traded something irreplaceable for cash.
Would you trade A-Rod for some shitty prospects to ditch his contract if you had to ship Cano with him? Or CC?
Seriously, how can anybody not see that the big Sox trade was a cash grab by ownership. The team got worse, and there’s nobody on the market this season to replace what they lost. Sure they got rid of some dead weight, but that’s just money. Last I checked fans didn’t care about how many hundreds of millions of dollars the team took in profits.
Reality October 19, 2012 15:15
I understand what you’re saying, but with how those guys were playing and how much they didn’t give a shit… anyone will be an improvement, especially if they aren’t costing the team a fortune. It was a smart move by the Red Sux. I would have loved to see Josh Beckett stay and work on elevating his already +5 ERA, and give up another pair of HR’s in a couple innings to Ichiro.
Call me Crazy October 19, 2012 13:54
Or 2010. Wait, when was the last time the Sox made the playoffs? I can’t remember.
Dixon Hurbut October 18, 2012 21:14
Disgraceful, gutless performance in the ALCS by the Yankees. What a bunch of weak willed losers. They should be embarrassed of the way they played.
Eric Chavez October 18, 2012 21:16
Don’t forget I misplayed two balls that led to runs. I also went hitless. I was a much better choice to play rather than Alex.
Texiera's Glove October 19, 2012 11:34
Hey don’t forget my contributions. Have I not been clutch, or what?
27 Rings October 18, 2012 21:29
Pathetic and old. I actually give Girardi lots of credit he got this far with these guys. Nothing he could have done better. Nobody hit…nobody. Nothing else matters. Please don’t bring back Jones, Ibanez, Swisher, Arod, and Martin. Nothing personal, but we are too old.
Huh? October 19, 2012 00:48
Don’t bring back Ibanez? I understand the whole “getting older” thing, but you obviously did not watch the postseason this year, haha. There’s one in every crowd, right guys?
Clutch hitter October 19, 2012 01:52
You mean the guy who doesn’t judge everything by one week? Ibanez was good, but he didn’t have a great year and he will only get worse seeing he’s 50.
Wrong October 19, 2012 02:04
He had a GOOD year, which is what you expect from someone like him. He’s not Josh Hamilton, and he’s not 50, he’s 40.
Sarcasm detector October 19, 2012 21:19
I am broken :(
Call me Crazy October 19, 2012 13:57
Yeah, give Girardi credit. After all, without him the Yankees would have won the division by 5 games and had their guys rested and their rotation all straightened out in time for the playoffs. Without him they would probably have won Game 4 of the ALDS and had a day off and CC for Game 1 of the ALCS. Somebody buy that man a sandwich and a multi-million dollar contract extension!
A Waste October 19, 2012 17:05
Granderson can take his 195 strikouts elsewhere too. He was 2nd in the majors in K’s.
Cherry Pickin October 24, 2012 00:29
He was also 11th in BB% (11%), 7th in ISO (.260), 8th in Runs Scored, and T-2nd in HRs. But why ruin the narrative. I’m sure it will be a piece of cake to replace that production for 1/15.
Binder and Binder October 18, 2012 21:40
Let us deal with the Hot Stove, you have enough to do.
The one constant to the George Steinbrenner era will his unceasing desire to win and I just don’t get that vibe from either Hank or Hal. Seems they are more concerned with crunching the numbers then hoisting the Trophy. I just don’t have a great deal of confidence in who’s minding the store.
In case you missed it... October 19, 2012 00:50
The Steinbrenner sons came out at the beginning of the year and made it very clear that there would be no more big contracts and that the prime focus is now on saving money and promoting farmhands, not on spending and winning. Do a quick Google search…
Binder and Binder October 19, 2012 09:46
That’s my point, the focus is on saving money, not on winning. I’m all for ditching the bloated contracts and developing a stronger farm system, but I’d still like to be able to sign a player like Cespedes.
I guess the point I’m trying to make is that I just don’t see the passion for winning from Hank and Hal that we all saw in The Boss. Perhaps I’m just being reactionary and the new approach will pay off. I’m along for the ride regardless.
Yankee Fan October 19, 2012 13:12
Yeah, they definitely don’t have any passion in the team. They’re billionaires who want more, at the expense of the greatest franchise in the history of sports. It’s disgusting, but they’ve made it clear that they don’t care. I’m still along for the ride, but it’s definitely very different. So many years with George… he was great.
Robinson Cannot October 18, 2012 21:44

Red Ruffinsore October 18, 2012 22:28
I agree October 19, 2012 10:07
I agree October 19, 2012 10:31
All Detroit pitchers except Verlander are in for a rude awakening. Wait until they have to face a team that is actually hitting. Do you think Phil Coke can close a game against the Cardinals?
I watched the Cardinals score 2 runs in one inning last night. This small bit of hitting made their offense looked downright explosive compared to the pinstriped funeral procession I’ve been watching.
CC Sabathia October 19, 2012 10:09
are you really trying to frame this season as a success?
you’re that guy who roots for the mets too.
this was a horrendous ending in a year where getting to the big dance was not out of the question.
I agree October 19, 2012 10:54
I’m not saying it was a success. I’m saying I expected worse. If not for interleague play and a couple weeks after this was a below 500 team. This was a very frustrating team to watch. They clearly didn’t belong in the playoffs. they were swept by a team that limped into the playoffs. As far as the mets are concerned – you got the wrong guy.

Breaking It Down October 19, 2012 01:14
too many blacks on this team
Ned Telson October 19, 2012 01:58
Whatever you posters are trying to say is wrong. I don’t even need to know what you’re saying. It’s just wrong. I have like three strawmen lined up to keep you busy for an hour before I even lay out my red herrings. Admit you’re wrong, all off you!
Check this lineup out October 19, 2012 02:27
After we trade A-Rod and Grandy to the Marlins for Heath Bell and one of Jose Fernandez/Christian Yelich. And then trade 3 of our better prospects for Justin Upton.

2B Robinson Cano
RF Justin Upton
DH David Roidtiz
1B Mark Teixeira
C Russell Martin
CF Brett Gardner
SS Eduardo time to shine Nunez

Prince Derek will never play third, it’s way beneath him.
He should have moved to 3rd when the yanks picked up arod, what makes you think he’d move now?
Brian Cashman October 19, 2012 02:33
Don’t worry…my track record of scouting and developing young talent will ensure the New York Yankees’ line-ups of the future will be full of young, vibrant, athletic hitters and strong, injury-free pitchers that stay in peak physical condition.
Michael Pineda October 19, 2012 10:40
No Officer, I havent been drinking tonight, (stashes pint of Courvosier under the seat).
Racist Coney October 19, 2012 12:32
You know you are drinking that 99 Bananas. I know how your people love bananas.
Do they make a 99 Plantains?
David Ortiz October 19, 2012 18:38
Bananas? Where?
Billy Martin October 19, 2012 17:40
Did someone say drinking??? I thought I heard drinking
CC Sabathia October 19, 2012 02:54
Good thing no one noticed I shit the bed
The Truth October 19, 2012 07:18
Good thing noe one that isn’t an inbred dumb fuck would blame this on the pitching staff. Seriously, buy a clue.
MLB.com October 19, 2012 08:41
you obviously don’t read me
CC Sabathia October 19, 2012 10:05
pitching staff was great except for me in Game 4
where I was getting smacked around like K-Rod treats family members
out of context – if the bats were hot my pitching sunk us this game.
sorry if you fear facts.
Wrong October 19, 2012 13:18
The bats weren’t hot. If C.C. pitched as well as the incredible other games he dominated, the Yankees still lose this one thanks to their two-hit performance.
2013 October 19, 2012 03:03
No More Swisher! It’s a start in the right direction.
Yankeeswin42 October 19, 2012 06:12
Thanks for the entertainment after a very disappointing post season. Nothing left to do now except wait for the smoke to clear and see how our team shapes up for next season. I will miss Swisher but would love to see the Melkman back. Maybe he can learn how to use the Dominican milkshakes without getting caught. I’ll bet Big Sloppy over in Bausten can help him out.
Yankees offense October 19, 2012 08:54
I’ll be on the golf course working on my swing!….. In all seriousness though, I think there will be some changes, not sure what, but I could definitely see Cashman going out and getting an OF that is a contact hitter with speed and roll an OF of Gardner/Ichiro/new dude
WORD! October 19, 2012 13:20
Thank GOD, someone with SENSE on this site! Imagine Bourn, Gardner and Ichiro? That’s a lot of speed– talented speed, that is. They could score us a lot of runs!
Swisher October 19, 2012 09:11
Hey Bros! “NY is an awesome place to play, bro.” I really want to come back.
Nick Swisher October 19, 2012 12:33
I’m all about that Werth money!
Holla at your bro!
We got this!
Yankees offense October 19, 2012 13:06
New rule, Moneyball originals aren’t allowed on the Yankees
Mike L. NYDnews October 19, 2012 09:53
As is right, a small market team will win the WS this year.
Leather Bound Books October 19, 2012 10:08
I hope Girardi doesn’t end up being the scapegoat, I think he did well with this team.
Maybe, just maybe, that new leadership of ours that I don’t really like will realize that the stadium is horribly mismanaged into some kind of commercial swamp instead of an actual baseball stadium, and that contracts like ARod shouldn’t happen at all anymore.
The ages at which CC and Tex finish, should be the end of the stick.
Ritardi October 19, 2012 10:27
If managing based on reporters’ and talk show callers’ opinions is good managing, I’m the best! I watched Cano jog to first all year and did nothing! Injuries? How does plugging in the next man up make me a great manager? Wasn’t my dopey “rest every hot hitter” mantra supposed to prevent injuries? I suck, I am overmatched, and the Yankees deserve better.
Yankee Fan October 19, 2012 13:24
Agreed, the Yankees got as far as they did DESPITE their manager. The only great move he made this year was putting in Ibanez for A-Rod. All his other game-costing moves the entire year were covered up by his classic one liner: “It’s still early.” Someone needs to tell him that August and September are not appropriate times for that phrase.
Long time, first time October 19, 2012 10:10
Thank you NoMaas for another great season of coverage. Don’t always agree with you, but you’re never afraid to make an opinion. Every other Yankee blog pussyfoots. You don’t.
Fucker October 19, 2012 10:28
hopefully last time.
Mike Asxia October 19, 2012 15:07
Excuse me?!? RAB doesn’t pussyfoot….. we cocksuck and were damn proud of it! MOM! Get me a hot pocket NOW, Editor-in-Chief needs to eat and then hypocritically bitch about fatties on treadmills
Manhattan Bar and Restaurant Association October 19, 2012 10:28
Dear Mr.

Scott Proctor October 19, 2012 11:39
Anyone seen my elbow?
Paul Quantrill October 19, 2012 12:36
The Yankees gave up a first round draft pick for me!

Who?
Swish October 19, 2012 12:38
Bras! Can’t wait for October baseball, man!
He has it right October 19, 2012 14:03
The entire organization needs an overhaul. I just hate our identity with Arod, soft players, etc. And you know what’s even a worse crime? A former Red Sox fan from New England, with the most horrendous chowder accent ever, and a woman mind you, is our radio announcer!!! Why?? How does this happen??
John Sterling October 19, 2012 14:20
You just can’t predict this stuff….
A Waste October 19, 2012 17:14
Asshole Sterling was so EXCITED yesterday after Peralta hit his 2nd homer I thought he jizzed his pants. “It is High.. mmmit is Farr.. it is GOOOONE!” I was hearing his sorry ass last night and wanted to reach through the radio and rip out his fuckin esophogus.
