Game 4. Elimination game. Girardi benches Arod again.
As bad as Arod has been, Eric Chavez, Curtis Granderson, and Robinson Cano have been worse. Yet, it’s Arod who’s sitting the most.
It was obvious that Torre was making Arod the scapegoat when he hit him 8th in the 2006 ALDS. Girardi has brought it to a whole new level. This isn’t business, it’s personal.
Maybe it stems from the story about Arod giving his phone number to a couple bitties during Game 1.
Whatever the reason, this is Girardi vs. Arod. This isn’t about how to win a baseball game.

They are all stinky
The Truth October 17, 2012 18:00
So it took a misplaced fly ball and four more anemic at bats for Granderson to hit the pine. Girardi does realize that Chavez’s error led to the winning run last night right? Oh did I mention he hitless. Fuck you Joe, this is childish.
Hal Steinbrenner October 18, 2012 12:20
This directive is coming down from on high. We are done paying the luxury tax and the best way to ramp down payroll is by showing A-Rod the door. Marlins are willing to eat the entire contract if we give them the keys to the farm.
Cashman October 17, 2012 18:09
This isn’t coming from Girardi. It isn’t Girardi vs ARod, doofuses. The Yankees are done with ARod. He is being run off of the team. Watch it happen.
Yankee Fan October 17, 2012 18:27
the way it has been handled is childish
but they want to do him dirty
so be it – he is obviously off this team in 2012
it’s addition by subtraction
A Waste October 17, 2012 19:28
If I’d be talking to some chicks during work, I wouldn’t have a job either. Plus it sends the message of, “I Don’t give a shit” to everybody on the team.
Can you see Jeter doing something like that?
The Truth October 17, 2012 20:18
No he just talks to fans in the on deck circle. Sorry, but Cashman playing the moral superiority card, when he did far more to humiliate the Yankees off the field this year if fucking absurd. This man was caught fucking several women that were not his wife & giving them property of the NY Yankees and what he’s getting a free pass cause his father died. Fuck that and fuck you to anyone trying to defend him. He’s a petty cocksucking weasel who deserves to get his ass kicked.

He is black and plays for the Red Sox.

$114+ million says he’s going nowhere.
Captain Obvious October 17, 2012 18:28
Yanks will trade Arod to an NL Team for 70 cents on the dollar. Then the next five years he will be bounced around the AL as a DH on at least four different teams. Thankfully he won’t pass Ruth on homers but sad he may put Willie down a notch. So sad. This guy was a clown.
70 cents? October 17, 2012 18:33
You are dreaming. Wet dreaming. Gay wet dreaming.
Captain Obvious October 17, 2012 19:43
They are paying 100 cents on the dollar to watch him eat sunflower seeds – so to save 30 cents – you can join reality. And I’ll add his last two contract years – he won’t even be playing baseball. You think that’s a dream? You think an over 40 year old contracted AROD is going to get a single at bat from any major league team! Are you his ex-wife?
Ummm... October 17, 2012 22:05
The rest of us are thinking “no one is going to pay them 70 cents on the dollar”… but you seem to have missed the obvious, “Captain.”
70 cents? October 18, 2012 11:09
I don’t think trading Arod for 70 cents on the dollar means what you think it means.
Reef October 17, 2012 18:29
Girardi and Cashman should be fired.
Just listened to Cashman’s conference. Maddening.
It is both hypocritical and nonsensical when he gives his reasoning for A-Rod’s benching as his recent play and splits, and selectively “forgets” to mention how bad Chavez played during the last month of the season and his 0-14 postseason.
I just don’t understand what the point of throwing A-Rod under the bus is, when you’re going to be stuck with him for 5 more years.
Yankee Fan October 17, 2012 23:16
Because he will obviously be moved in the off season.
I don’t like the way it’s being handled but he has to go now.
Miami Marlins October 17, 2012 18:55
We have a home for him right here in his beloved Miami. When Ozzie’s done with him we can wheel right on in to the retirement home.
A Waste October 17, 2012 19:33
Perfect fit since Miami doesn’t have to worry about the postseason or anything. Plus they have a swimming pool in left so A-Rod can go talk to girls between innings.
Rambo October 17, 2012 18:59
Fuck em
blah blah blah October 17, 2012 20:07
Couldn’t understand you while you were sucking on arods hog. At least Chavez can field at third. All you have to do is watch the fucking game to see arod is swinging at everything and anything outside of the zone and watching meatballs go straight down the pike for a strike to know he is a gigantic suckbag tool.
They would have benched Granderson too if they didn’t want to look bad with Jackson starting in CF and hitting lead off… Sure glad that was such a nomassian great move…
Reef October 17, 2012 21:26
Didn’t Chavez just have a huge error last night? How many hits does Chavez have in the postseason?
If the Yankees are desperate (and clearly they are), why wouldn’t you ride the hand that helped get you here and won you a championship in ’09. 640 HRs has to count for something.
A-Rod, despite looking awful this postseason, can carry a team when he gets hot… Chavez is 0-14 and hasn’t carried a team since ’06.
potatoes October 19, 2012 08:11
because ’09 was 3 years ago. a-rod has not been hot in ages and wasnt going that direction.
Nick Social October 17, 2012 20:41
A-Rod has sucked something awful.
Chavez has been equally awful.
What EXACTLY is the next logical step here?
Saying that A-Rod is being treated unfairly is as silly as blaming him exclusively for our offensive woes.
If there were an easy answer here, Cashman/Girardi would have pulled the trigger a long time ago.
Big Stein October 17, 2012 20:44
Very good, very good. Excellent. Excellent calzone you got there Costanza. Okay a little jealous now. Okay let’s go. Ok last week…. You know that eggplant was very good. Everybody out. I got eggplant on my mind. Costanza get me a couple of those calzones right now. Pronto. Move out. Big Stein wants an eggplant calzone. He must have one. Everybody out. Out.

Where the fuck am I on this roster?!?!
Smart Guy October 17, 2012 22:01
when they benched arod the first time i knew we were screwed, main problem this year has been the constant
change of batting order, these guys cant fall in a rhythm with o many different lineups, this is joe maddon type, this mixing and matching to see what work needed to happen earlier in the season, now they have to play the guys that got you to the post season not this stupid lineups by the numbers.
Larry Lucchino October 17, 2012 22:02
Call the Dodgers. They are like a manic bitch with a charge card.
Suck it gay boys!
Troof Squad October 17, 2012 22:13
They are going to have to eat a crap load of that money. Almost better off playing him next year and then cutting him. Makes sure he never reaches those incentives. Embarrasses him too.
THe Dodgers October 17, 2012 22:29
Look…we’ll take Arod , you take Adrian Gonzalez, we call it a day. Oh you have to take Beckett and Car lCrawford too.
Hank October 18, 2012 02:33
Arod was and is being benched for the simple fact – we want him off the team. We got tipped off to a failed drug test last week and we cut a deal with MLB for us to send him to another team before the story breaks. We told him in house we are benching you for the failed drug test. He doesn’t get paid on the games he is suspended. The new team is only going to pay 30 cents on the dollar. He already called Lance Armstrong for support. It’s a group therapy for multi millionaire sports guys who cheat the system. His WHOLE career was juicy.
Alex October 18, 2012 10:53
Kobe Bryant says I should play!

“A-Rod, despite looking awful this postseason, can carry a team when he gets hot… Chavez is 0-14 and hasn’t carried a team since ’06.”
Anybody can carry a team when they get hot.
When was the last time Arod carried a team ? enough with this whole bull, this is not the 2009 version of Arod, this is the version that we all hoped not to see this soon but unfortunately it’s here, they proved during the regular season that he is not a power hitter anymore. Who gives a fuck about his 660+ HRs, we all know how he got there.
Impeach John & Suzyn October 18, 2012 14:50
Wrong. Very disappointed in such stupidity from NoMaas. A-Rod can’t hit righties & there’s a very good defensive substitute on the bench who’s a lefty. That’s all this is. A-Rod’s broken old body just can’t do it any more. Cano’s a great hitter in a slump – that’s the kind of thing you can’t give up on, because he will eventually come out of it. Swisher & Granderson are being benched as much as possible. Stop being dumb, NM.
Superslick October 21, 2012 13:01
Typical nomaas stupidity. A-rod couldn’t get around on an 85 mph fastball from a RHP since the middle of September, and Girardi was supposed to send him out there against Verlander and Scherzer?
Stay stupid nomaas, and stay irrelevant.
Aren’t you overdue for some racism or homophobia?
