Alex Rodriguez was playing late in the regular season and playoffs with a re-tear in his surgically repaired right hip, The Post has learned.
Rodriguez is expected to need a second surgery in the coming days and will miss, at minimum, a piece of the 2013 season. Still, the hope is that the procedure will allow A-Rod to return as a full, successful player as early as the ’13 season and for the rest of a contract that takes him through the 2017 campaign.
The expectation is that Rodriguez wants to play on, not retire. The surgery is expected to be performed in Colorado by Dr. Marc Philippon, who performed the initial surgery in 2009.
$27.5 million in AAV (Average Annual Value)!! Yay!

at least we now know he’s better than what we saw in the playoffs
I’m honestly more relieved to hear this than to assume he was the singles hitter everyone saw after he came off the DL in September

now we know he can’t stay healthy, and will suck worse for the rest of his contract. Where do I send my season ticket money!

you don’t “know” anything that’s going to happen in the future, okay?

I know I would beat your ass if we ever fought.

YOu are a fucking moron. All it means is that he’s breaking down. He’s going to be a year older when the 2013 season starts. This only means that he’ll be coming back from another injury, and will probably be injured again. This is a complete loss. There’s nothing to show that he’ll come back anything other than worse than he was in the playoffs. Go die.

Wasn’t this extension Hank, rather than Levine? Hell, lock both of them up in a basement for the next 50 years.

Why the eff do the Yankees wait forever to have surgery done? See ManBan as well. Do they think Randy has a magic elixir? Hell, he should probably have undergone surgery BEFORE the ALCS last year. But at the least immediately after. Sucks.

Mark my words, we’ll hear that Campos needs TJ surgery before long.
bartonbickle December 3, 2012 15:27
who the hell is or ever was counting on Campos for anything?
everything related to him was a result of trying to avoid backlash from Pineda’s immediate injury. he’s like 20 years old and hasn’t played above A-ball. stop talking about Jose Campos.

Uh, you kind of miss the point. I was addressing how Yankees address injuries, dufus.

What I don’t understand is how clearly terrible this deal has gone for the Yankees and yet teams keep making similar deal with guys like Pujols, Fielder, and soon Hamilton.
Chau December 3, 2012 19:44
This muthafucka needs to retire or get back on the juice.
The Truth December 4, 2012 08:34
The problem with this injur has been the reaction from the Lupica’s & Wallace Matthews’ of the world. At least I will give Alex credit for trying to play hurt. Fuck the contract the trade of Montero is now looking the biggest shit show since the signing of Irabu.
Matzo December 4, 2012 14:42
I for one would love to have levine in charge. maybe he would sign Hamilton. Resign our catcher. And add another righty bat. Instead of this auseterity BULLSHIT
