Swisher had terrible postseason numbers. However, in order to have postseason numbers, you have to get to the playoffs first. And when it comes to the regular season, Nick Swisher has been a much better baseball player than Ichiro over the past two years…and it’s not even close:
If Ichiro’s bat can bounce back and at least slightly resemble what he did in his 67 games with New York, then the gap is not as wide, once you factor in his baserunning and defense. However, at 39 years old, Ichiro will very likely be a downgrade from Swisher.

When compared to Swisher’s bat, it’s like Ichiro is hitting with…./david cone’d

oh please don’t overstate Swisher.
I’d bet Yankees make playoffs this year & cleveland on the other hand will fight to get to .500
Ichiro is a household name in the baseball universe. Nick Swisher is consumed with his twitter/facebook status
fuck that clown – he can’t even catch a ball in the post
why would anyone by upset this phony piece of shit is off the team?!?!
Reasons WAR is for homosexuals. December 24, 2012 01:05
1. you can’t easily compute it & it’s uses SUBJECTIVE data (UZR)
2. it’s based against a HYPOTHETICAL player!
3. if all these advanced calculations tell me that Barry Bonds was amazing & that Kevin Maas sucked
what additional light did it shed that raw stats didn’t?
The best hidden stat is BABIP which actually tells a story not readily apparent. WAR is a bunch of nerds trying to add importance to their field but accomplish zero.
Look at the above graph why was WAR needed?
Perfect example of WAR stupidity. 1996 Yankees – Tino Martinez at first in world series replaced by….Cecil Fielder. opps there goes that stat

Let’s see how declining age 33+ Swisher does in a lineup full of no-names when he is not in a contract year and starts hitting the donuts again. Here is a prediction: not well.

Fuck you Swisher!

Suck the dick bitch.

why are you bringing up BB% as if walking is part of my game?
Now lets talk apples to apples…
Have you ever seen me run back on a fly ball that ends up 75 rows back in the stands?
Nick Swisher did that shit all the time. Why? because he can’t do calculus in his head as fast as I can
to understand batted ball trajectory.
Ever see me take a crooked path to a hard line drive? Nick Swisher was running zig zags out there.
Ever see me look to the sky for my dead grandma on every pitch?!
Why don’t you have the balls to compare career POST SEASON stats. Please I dare you. Once you dig up those
numbers you will see I am a major upgrade over Nick Swisher.
I’m also a future hall of famer. Ya know the type of talent that makes up less than 1% of everyone whom has every played the game. Just sayin’
I’ve gunned down 102 runners in my career & that with people not taking the extra base on me after my rookie year.
I wore number 51 because Bernie Williams was my favorite player. Now I’m rocking 31 a la Dave Winfield.
Also I got a 2 year deal in the winter of 2012 from the yankees – if that doesn’t prove I’m a boss than you wait until I drop 214 hits this season!

Your BB% is relevant, when it keeps declining and you have a an OBP that barely cracks .300

Swisher will be missed. But, yanks still need a big bat. Missing home runs of Swisher and Martin will hurt yanks. Yankee
Brass is retarded, they should sell team to someone who likes winning and not saving money. Getting millions from
Tv rights and pocketing it shows he’s no Steinbrenner.

Guys, were experiencing the downfall of our team, of our club, in every aspect. While the front office has clearly made baseball performance a secondary aspect, the Yankees will continue as a soulless POS until Hal is gone. I never thought the sons of the guy who built this team would be such cold blooded vultures, but they are.
The Yankees are now purely about business, not *also* like other clubs – purely. NYY steak is what it’s all about now, stadium atmosphere is secondary, people are told to be quiet so tourists don’t get intimidated or the corporate assholes behind home plate can continue their small talk in peace if they are even present. The bleacher creatures have been silenced. The new ticket deal was made for the most retarded of reasons because Randy Levine is basically butthurt someone might get to see the Yanks for non rip off pricing.
These D-Bags have realized that the Yankees ‘brand’ (god I hate that word referring to sports clubs) is now so big that baseball performance isn’t needed to sell the merchandise, at least not as it used to be, so getting good players and winning games is now viewed as a necessary evil in the process of making millions outside of direct baseball operations.
But why are we cutting costs? Ticket prices certainly aren’t going down or going to come down, things aren’t going to get better. It’s for one of two, either to continue to shove more money into the ever greedy pockets of the brass, or to sell the club. One option as sinister and evil as the other.
At the moment this whole thing isn’t even remotely about baseball, and until that gets better, I’m turning away from it. I cancelled my MLB.tv, and while I will always hope the Yankees win, it’s pretty hard to root for a club that shits all over everything I believe in in sports.

Swisher was underrated defensively & overrated offensively. Great effort appreciated but good pitchers with control had easy time with him hence playoff numbers–total mistake hitter Swisher had one excellent year, one decent year and one bad year for Yanks–not worth $$$$ they would pay–not even close–for $$$$ value Ichiro much better
Yankee fan December 24, 2012 16:53
The argument of Ichiro vs Swisher is entirely stupid because they in fact were playing on the same team last year. & the last I checked Swisher was the one who was benched! In the most important game of the year. Benched!
so please keep the regular season stats out of the equation.

My daddy loved Swishaclious, as he called him.
He had photos and posters of him all over the place!
He named one of his ‘vibrating toys’ after him, too!
Swish and pinching pennies! That’s all daddy cares about!

The Jays are counting on Lind, Rasmus, Bonafacio/Izturis, Arencibia… That’s almost 1/2 their line-up.
They’re going to need everyone else to repeat career years, which is not all that likely for Encarnacion and Melky.
Excuse me while I attempt to blow myself.
